I totally agree with you. With the exception of uneatable pests, we eat all the animals we shoot.
Have you SEEN some of the STUFF people will EAT these days?

:)

I am told that the meat from the wild hogs is leaner, more healthier, and far more tasty than hogs raised for slaughter. Dunno personally, but that is what I am told.

As for deer, some of those killed to thin the heard are diseased, and not worth eating.....in that case, I can understand disposing of them in some way. But don't leave them to rot and decay in the woods/where ever.

Ugh. I would have a hard time eating wild hog. The gutters I used to work with didn't even like to CLEAN the things, much less eat them. I don't claim to be an expert on meat or anything, but I just take it after their example.

But there is something else that I REALLY don't get people eating. Tofu. Now THAT is gross.

OK!!! NOW YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR! :D

Actually, I'm not a great fan of it, either, but for hot weather, shorts/t-shirts, it's difficult to find a better CCW. Power-wise, it's barely adequate.... but WAY better than harsh words.
Bahahaha. True enough. I'll take a .22 magnum Derringer over nothing.

Wild hog is good eating. I've heard that the bigger boars are pretty tough and gamy, but I don't know that from experience. I've taken a couple of 150 pounders that were very good, and one that was closer to 100 pounds.
The meat is WAY leaner than domestic, and has a slightly sweeter taste. The tenderloins are very good.

I suppose the bigger ones could be used for sausage, but like I said, I've never tried bigger ones.

I don't believe in wasting meat, but some animals are simply not meant for eating.... unless you are very hungry, then I suppose even rats would be fine fare.....

You're just torturing me because you know I want one....

Take some pics of your targets (and gun, of course) and post em for us to see.... can't remember.. is yours a .45, or .357? I suppose it could be a .44, too...? Enquiring minds want to know...

duh.... I re-read your post... .45 it is! Do you reload for it?
Yeah, it is a .45. Ain't got no pics here right now, but it is blued, rosewood grips:) No, I don't reload.

Hog don't sound that good, but maybe it tastes deliciously? As for insects...yuck...Beetle Steak sounds so gross:p I'm not even sure beetles are insects...but bugs they are anyhow.

What is real good, though, is moose. Problem is that the bullet will expand crazily if it is non bonded, so you best use bonded bullets (heck, some are even using full metal jacket on moose but then you sure oughta be a good shot:p).

I've always wanted to try moose.... I have a friend that lives in Michigan, and he says they occasionally see moose when they go hunting in the UP....

I've heard horror stories about how much work it is to field dress and pack out a moose... I'm pretty sure I wouldn't tackle it by myself. I'd get a team..

It's no way you can do it by yourself, yall will need to be leastways two or three, and five if everybody is my size:p

That moose on the pic is real big, so that would require some effort, the biggest I've shot was almost 500 lbs...the one on the pic is maybe 600-750 lbs???

I imagine that one is more than that.... I've heard the big ones can easily go over 1000 pounds...

The reason I would use as much gun as possible is that I've heard they have a very low-keyed nervous system, and that what usually happens is someone shoots one with an "adequate" caliber, but it takes a few minutes for the nervous system to shut down, and by that point, the moose has wandered out into the water, where it drops. Then you get to try to field dress an 800 pound animal in knee to waist deep water. There's no "dragging it out" of the water...

Similar to elk... an elk can cover a LOT of ground.... quickly, so if you don't drop it pretty much instantly, you have a long trek on your hands. And if it runs off into a ravine, or canyon before dropping? You get to pack out elk quarters UPHILL....

I'm too old and out of shape for that...

Interesting quote from an article about moose....

Alaska-Yukon Moose, as the name implies, live in the state of Alaska and the Yukon Territory and are the largest moose in North America, both in terms of body size and antler size. The largest moose ever recorded was a bull taken in the Yukon which weighed a ridiculous 1,800 pounds.

Yes, it takes off, runs a few yards (or more) and unfortunately they are usually seeking water. A clean headshot will take the critter down instantly, though.

Moose is a meat I do not like the taste of. Might just be me personally, but I am not a fan of the taste of it.

That's a whole lotta moose. Reckon they were using a .375 H&H?
That would be my choice.... especially since I think moose sometimes share the territory with big bears.

I used to have a .338, but had no use for anything quite that big. I've heard the .375 is not much worse than the .338 to shoot.

Really? I've heard that moose is the best of any of the venison family. I've never had the chance to try it, though.

Now I'm on a quest.... find some moose.... find some moose....

Moose don't kill people............STUPID PEOPLE get killed my Moose!

(I hear more than a few people are killed by Moose each year...........)

If something weighs 1,800 pounds, is angry, and coming at me.......I don't look for a rifle........
