Well, he said curiosity killed the cat, and he caved and installed win 10, then had problems with it..lol.. Hence why I said he should've killed the cat and kept the curiosity. I didn't mean literally kill the cat.. I LOVE cats. :)

Yes, I know. :) Support for it ends in 2020.. I plan on getting a laptop before then, and use this (desktop) one for something else.. :)
 
I upgraded all my computers to windows 10.
Granted I do have retail license keys for them, so thankfully I can revert back to windows 7 right after :D

Just wanted to link to my windows 7 pro and windows 8 pro keys as valid for windows 10 pro. Thus I have 2 Windows 10 pro keys to use in the future when the support ends for 7/8.
 
It exhibits glitchy behavior, crashes on a regular basis, and couldn't care less what I want to do...

Other than a different look, nothing's changed.

I've got a month to switch back, we will see how it goes.

Is the OS crashing or programs? Might need to update drivers and programs to Windows 10 compatible versions. Better to do a clean install of 10 than to upgrade imo. Some of your hardware might need firmware upgrades too. I had faulty firmware for my motherboard that conflicted with 10 somehow when I first installed it so I kept getting the blue screen of death every so often. Fixed it by updating the firmware. You can find the firmware for your hardware on the manufacturers' websites.

With that being said, I love 10, but I have to find a copy of 7 now because I found out a few days ago while modding an old dx9 game that 8 and 10 cripple (modified) dx9 apps by limiting how much RAM and vRAM they can use to only 4GB combined and the devs at Microsoft seem to have no intentions of fixing it. On 7 there is no limit , but a bug in 8 and 10 prevents this from working properly. Makes a lot of my older games unplayable after being modded. Microsoft support sucks as always though and have given no feedback to the thousands of complaints other than acknowledging its existence and that it's their fault.

So... Guess I'll be going back to 7 myself for a while if I can find a copy.

But really, other than the dx9 bug (really only affects modded dx9 games) and privacy concerns (which can be fixed), 10 has been pretty solid imho. Way better than the abomination 8 was and a good step up from 7. The main thing is to make sure your drivers, firmware, and programs are all updated to run with Windows 10. Windows does install generic drivers for a lot of your plug and play stuff, but sometimes it's better to get the official drivers from the hardware manufacturers. Sometimes not. Just depends. But doing all that might solve a lot of your buggy/crashing issues.
 
You might also try checking for malware with malwarebytes antimalware and superantispyware. Both are free. Viruses can cause the same buggy/crashing behavior. And also clean your registry with ccleaner to fix any problems it might be causing.

I have all 3 of these programs.. :) Super finds why anti-spy doesn't, and vice versa..

Curiously, windows 10 randomly logs me off of sites with no seeming rhyme or reason.
 
It's... Like I said, same as the old boss. I'm slowly getting it tweaked and tuned and it's getting there but it's still a windows production. That'll never change.

I thank God every day that I did not have the nightmare experience, really didn't need it at the time and thank You Lord for watching over these electrons in transit.

Electrons. I just don't get it. Electrons travel at the speed of light - yet I all too often find my self tapping my fingers waiting ;)
 
Well you have to get enough of them, see. One electron doesn't do much on its own. You have to get a whole pile of them, billions and billions of them actually, and they have to be very precisely organized before the computer can do anything with them. :cool:

If you'd like some help with older games on Windows 8 and 10 let me know. I use an older sports game with DX9 on windows 8.1 and it runs well. I also play a lot of other games and most of the new os like 8.1/10 don't have the "legacy/old direct X files in the back end of the new direct X 12 on 8.1/10 which causes older games to be choppy or not display well.....you need the direct X rollup update for June 2010.....it will fill the back end in....also games need .net framework 3.5 and 4.5 to work with direct X. If you need the link for these I can supply them to you from microsoft....just let me know by pm... :) Happy gaming!

Uh oh. The nightmare begins... the last 4/5 days it's been getting progressively worse - things not working, freezes, glitches, and the dreaded blue and black screens of death... Of course I'm not discounting the fact that the laptop is getting old (I bought it right after windows 7 came out, what was that 2009?) but either way it's spiraling downhill.

I would probably go to the manufacturer's website and download windows 10 drivers if they have them or the latest ones.

I think it's your laptop. I'm not having any issues with Windows 10.
