I doubt a cat got to them. Mockingbirds are feisty little things and have no fear of cats. They will stalk and attack both people and other animals. Perhaps someone in your neighborhood was annoyed by the Mockingbirds (they're known to be pesky) and discouraged them from coming around. I happen to like Mockingbirds as I get a kick out of how they do such a variety of awesome bird calls. My son got one Mockingbird on our property to mimic a high-pitch cricket noise. ROFL!!

We have so many around here that many people consider them varmints..... although they are our state bird...
I had one singing in the tree outside our bedroom window a couple of years back... at 3:30 in the morning. It was a long song...
I finally went out and flung a broomstick up into the tree, and he flew across the street and two doors down, and started his singing again.
I went back to bed.
