Preaching the true gospel of the grace of Christ includes healing.

Healing is definitely in the true gospel message.....as can be seen when Paul preached the gospel in Lystra. in Acts 14.

Acts 14:7-10 (NASB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] and there
they continued to preach the gospel.

[SUP]8 [/SUP] At Lystra a man was sitting who had no strength in his feet, lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked.

[SUP]9 [/SUP] This man was listening to Paul as he spoke, who, when he had fixed his gaze on him and
had seen that he had faith to be made well,

[SUP]10 [/SUP] said with a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet." And he leaped up and began to walk.

Paul was preaching the GOSPEL.... the man lame was listening to Paul and then he had faith to be made whole...
where did this man get faith to be made whole in his body?

Romans 10:17 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

The man that was lame from birth heard in the preaching of the gospel of the grace of Christ that he could be made whole. He believed...Paul saw it in him and encouraged him to act on his faith.

Healing is a part of the gospel of the grace of Christ as being born-again is.

I think that miracles were/are part of preaching the gospel as some kind of evidence that the gospel is trustworthy, mainly when it is preached in some country for the first time.

But I dont think its the part of the gospel in the meaning "when you are the right Christian you will be always healthy and God will respond to all your prayers. And if not, you dont have enough faith or you are a sinner".

There are also trials and tests of our faith in God. Will we believe even when our life will go bad? As Job did.

I believe the gospel always remains the gospel - the good news of Jesus Christ and what He has already done for us. no matter where it is preached.

I agree with you that " when you are the right Christian you will always be healthy and God will respond to our prayers." That unfortunately does get preached or at least intimated that this is true but it isn't.

Jesus qualifies every believer in Him for all the blessings of God - not our own works no matter how "spiritual" they seem to be.

Faith does play a part in all our lives to obtain the things that belong to us because of Jesus only has qualified us. Faith simply obtains what has already been provided by the grace of Christ in our lives.

We live in a fallen world, live in the flesh and have an enemy that hates us and all 3 will do what they can to make life miserable for us.

The battle is in the mind. We need to have our minds renewed to the truth that Christ by His grace has already provided for us and that He alone has qualified us for all the blessings of God and not by our own good merits or works.

I agree with all you said. I would just add that there are also trials and tests of us and of our faithfullness in this life.

When we are new Christians (similar to children) God will give us almost everything we ask for. But when we grow up, I think He awaits more responsibility and will test us more.

And tests mean bad things will happen.

So we should ask God for healing us and other things, but we should not cry "what is wrong, what is wrong, does He even exist, does He even love me" etc when His answer is "no".

although there are examples of faith leading to healing,,,the trouble i see with the doctrine lack of faith= lack of healing,
you have to say to a young christian whose lost there child that they can spend the rest of their life knowing if only they had enough faith their baby would have lived and i just dont think Gods that cruel to his children.

here's some examples where healing came without pre-needed faith

Acts 3:6-16King James Version (KJV)

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

John 11:38-44New King James Version (NKJV)

Lazarus Raised from the Dead

38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”
Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”
40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying.[a] And Jesus lifted up Hiseyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.”43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice,“Lazarus, come forth!” 44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

John 5

5 Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years.6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had beenin that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”
7 The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” 9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.

I agree....those examples you gave are manifestations of the gifts of the Spirit. The Lord has many ways for us to be healed and I believe it is His love for us that provides this. God uses doctors all the time to meet people where they are at in their live.

I believe in preaching Christ and with Him comes faith for what is needed for us at the time we are in as we listen to the Holy Spirit within us.

There will be no sickness in heaven for all of eternity and no matter what happens on this earth - it is not the final say in any situation! He will wipe away every tear that we have. He will be faithful to us.

It is said God will pass over a thousand people to get to the man of faith.
Really? Where did scripture say that?

So why...in this social media age where almost everyone has a camera in their pocket...are we not seeing lame men getting up and walking every day? Why are we not seeing blind eyes opened on cnn? Why is it only the traveling missionary that is raising the dead? The traveling preacher who is opening blind eyes? Diseases arent getting cured, but legs 100% of the time grow back when they are uneven.

And...just because Jesus told his disciples to go do these things why does that mean "us" as well?

Ok so...this is the closest response to what I'm looking for. The only thing missing are some scriptural backups...care to extrapolate?

I'm going to ask some questions, but please don't think I am necessarily questioning you with the intent of arguing or proving you wrong. I can see how your train of thought could be true...however, many charismatics would argue or ask the questions I may ask.

If you could break each of these sentences down and go into more detail on each statement I would looooove to read that. And please don't think I'm taking a sarcastic tone here. I really do want to hear more.

I'll come back to answering the whole thing.. but thought I'd pick up on when Jesus said 'you will do greater works than these'

So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God...the word of God is the bible, but also John 1 says the word is Jesus. So how do the disciples qualify more than us when concerning things like - you too will do the works that I do...and do greater works. Just because they saw Jesus?

I would have to say either going to heaven or heaven coming down to earth.

THANK YOU for this reply!!!

I'll just start with 'you will do greater works' first:
The scripture:

12Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Who was Jesus talking to when He said this ? - the disciples

What is the reason the works are greater ? - because He goes to His father

What is it about Jesus going to the Father that would make the works greater?

Jesus came thru the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and empowered the church at Jerusalem. This began the Holy Spirit's ministry in His churches. Not the start of His churches, but the beginning of the Holy Spirit's work in churches. Jesus started His churches with the first being Him as the leader with His disciples.

Anyway.. these churches.. their combined efforts of works is surely greater than the work the disciples and Jesus in the flesh did themselves. Paul, Timothy, Peter, Barnabas, John, etc.. their combined efforts equaled the great spread of christianity in the early churches, around the biblical areas.

Surely it would be this kind of works.

Also, the apostles DID do works like Jesus-- with signs and wonders accompanying them. But they couldn't do greater works than Jesus-- God Himself! They could though do greater works in terms of the expansion of christianity around the biblical world though.

Playing charismatic's advocate here, but...

Why does going to the father infer that he's coming through the Holy Spirit?

Why didn't you return to your doctor and have another angiogram performed once you believed you received your healing?

Since you didn't make any reference to the doctor's recommendation other than this last angiogram showed more damage, did they indicate whether or not bypass surgery is still an option at this point or did they put you on a heart transplant list?

....we would have to ignore elijah/elisha.

.....good measure,pressed down,shaken together,and running over.

...there is always an exponent with God. Greater, more, abundant, etc.

In his kingdom there is no lack, there is the economy of abundance.

Of course he meant greater miracles, signs and wonders that we would do.Greater than the works he did in number, and extravagance.

Angiograms are fairly invasive and not super fun so I wasn't real keen on getting one. I'm still a candidate - so 4.5 years ago I had 3 completely blocked arteries (possible triple bypass) at the ripe ol age of 31....now I'm 36 and was told "they've gotten worse"

Too young for this, Lord! No family history, no drugs, no reason why I should have it.

Every day of our lives here will seem like and even BE a "crap shoot" if we only see the world with all it's confusions and major CONTRADICTIONS the way the people of the world do. We have a choice as sons of God to SEE Jesus and to believe He is alive and well and reigns everywhere. Especially in our hearts as He reveals Himself to us each day and by His goodness and His grace.

How can any of us know about someone else's life in the matter of healing for instance when we can't even figure out our own life without a one on ONE relationship? Why do people (Christians) think that God doesn't heal or do other mighty works when He does them every day!!!??

Instead of believing in His love for us., we site times and places where it 'looks' like God is not., adding TOO the burden of a Godless world who can't see Him at all except through hints in creation. Are we not MUCH BETTER sighted than THAT?????

If we do not expect Him to be there for us to follow because 'He' says so, than how can we say we are "mature" Christians if that is not even part of our daily life? How can we advise others about Jesus when the faith in Him is not evidenced in our own lives???

Can you witness to the goodness of God in the land of the living? Is He a good God or is He testing testing testing you to wait and see if you fall flat on your face? How do you see Him? How we see Him is how He will be to us unless we ask for a TRUE revelation.

But if we insist on sticking with our old moldy mossy humanly religious eyesight., God will not force us to take in a new revelation of Who He is. There is more to Jesus than we first heard.

Oh Yikes., was not speaking specifically to you dear Ed. It's my enthusiasm and reaction when I read mature Christians siting negative things. I'm aware that there are pains and heart aches in this world at times for us. There are places we will have to go through all by ourselves with Jesus. If we are very blessed, we will have other brothers and sisters in Christ who will point us towards faith in Him as we go. They will pray for us and talk the Word to us and we will be encouraged in the Lord.

I know He will lead you along just like He promises. Be encouraged by reading Psalm 23 and Psalm 91
Those kind of Words are invaluable for times such as these. They were written specifically for us to meditate on at these times of need.

The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me],
I shall not want.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]
He lets me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still and quiet waters.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]
He refreshes and restores my soul (life);
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
for His name’s sake.

[SUP]4 [/SUP]
Even though I walk through the [sunless] [SUP][a][/SUP]valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort and console me.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You have anointed and refreshed my head with [SUP][b][/SUP]oil;
My cup overflows.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]
Surely goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life,
And I shall dwell forever [throughout all my days] in the house and in the presence of the Lord.

He who [SUP][a][/SUP]dwells in the shelter of the Most HighWill remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].
[SUP]2 [/SUP]
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!”
[SUP]3 [/SUP]
For He will save you from the trap of the fowler,
And from the deadly pestilence.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]
He will cover you and completely protect you with His pinions,
And under His wings you will find refuge;
His faithfulness is a shield and a wall.

[SUP]5 [/SUP]
You will not be afraid of the terror of night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
[SUP]6 [/SUP]
Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction (sudden death) that lays waste at noon.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]
A thousand may fall at your side
And ten thousand at your right hand,
But danger will not come near you.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]
You will only [be a spectator as you] look on with your eyes
And witness the [divine] repayment of the wicked [as you watch safely from the shelter of the Most High].
[SUP]9 [/SUP]
Because you have made the Lord, [who is] my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
[SUP]10 [/SUP]
No evil will befall you,
Nor will any plague come near your tent.

[SUP]11 [/SUP]
For He will command His angels in regard to you,
To protect and defend and guard you in all your ways [of obedience and service].
[SUP]12 [/SUP]
They will lift you up in their hands,
So that you do not [even] strike your foot against a stone.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]
You will tread upon the lion and cobra;
The young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.

[SUP]14 [/SUP]
“Because he set his love on Me, therefore I will save him;
I will set him [securely] on high, because he knows My name [he confidently trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never abandon him, no, never].
[SUP]15 [/SUP]
“He will call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]
“With a long life I will satisfy him
And I will let him see My salvation.”

Playing charismatic's advocate here, but...

Why does going to the father infer that he's coming through the Holy Spirit?
Well.. that is what happened after He ascended. I see that 'going to the Father' now means He can operate invisibly, through the Holy Spirit and therefore do more in this form. Which He did, in building up His churches and empowering the apostles among a whole lot of other works.

He is doing greater works BECAUSE He is going to the Father. How can that be? Only if invisibly He can.. and what was He doing invisibly? Working through the Holy Spirit.

The one Triune being God.. in operation through the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Convicting, rebuking, empowering, building, disciplining, etc..

What is christian maturity?

Surely it is daily reading the Word, enduring suffering for doing good, praying to Jesus regularly, fellowship continuously in a solid biblical church, fellowship with fellow church members.. rightly dividing the Word of truth.

Does this mean reliance on signs, miracles and wonders? No. It's a steady work with God no matter what fantastical things things are seen or happening.

What is Christian maturity to me? It's being a child. It's being a sheep of His pasture. It's letting Him do for me what I cannot do for myself. Knowing His love personally One on one in my day to day. It's first and foremost those things before it's anything else.

Yes, we will read the Bible we must., it's our food! Pray? yes all the time we must! we love to talk to Him!! being with other Christians? yes. we love the brethren! He teaches us that! And the sufferings of this present world are not to be compared to the glory He is working in us now in for later when we get to heaven.
:D

But without the positioning of who I am IN Christ., my reading the Bible and fellowshipping and suffering and going to a solid Biblical church and rightly dividing the Word of truth in good doctrine was like "sounding brass and clanging symbols" just like 1 Cor. 13 says.

Without the love of God to empower and uplift we are just spinning our wheels in religious works. When I'm believing Him for His love., the Holy Spirit flows like rivers of living water! Seriously!! I know He does many wondrous things and He has also given us the privilege and joy of watching as we see His hand traced in our daily life. It's amazing to be a sheep.

The possibilities are endless when we are positioned that way. We rely on His love and see the power of His grace. I have seen many many "fantastical" things but only because of His grace.

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not [SUP][a][/SUP]love [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction].

[SUP]2 [/SUP]And if I have the gift of prophecy [and speak a new message from God to the people], and understand all mysteries, and [possess] all knowledge; and if I have all [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love [reaching out to others], I am nothing.

[SUP]3 [/SUP]If I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body [SUP][b][/SUP]to be burned, but do not have love, it does me no good at all.
[SUP]
4 [/SUP]Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant.

[SUP]5 [/SUP]It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured.

[SUP]6 [/SUP]It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail].

[SUP]7 [/SUP]Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].
[SUP]
8 [/SUP]Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away.

[SUP]9 [/SUP]For we know in part, and we prophesy in part [for our knowledge is fragmentary and incomplete].

[SUP]10 [/SUP]But when that which is complete and perfect comes, that which is incomplete and partial will pass away.

[SUP]11 [/SUP]When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.

[SUP]12 [/SUP]For now [in this time of imperfection] we see in a mirror dimly [a blurred reflection, a riddle, an enigma], but then [when the time of perfection comes we will see reality] face to face. Now I know in part [just in fragments], but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known [by God].

[SUP]13 [/SUP]And now there remain: faith [abiding trust in God and His promises], hope [confident expectation of eternal salvation], love [unselfish love for others growing out of God’s love for me], these three [the choicest graces]; but the greatest of these is love.

It is saying, I can't do it own my own, I need Him.
