It was brought to my attention that there are people on CC who think the world is flat. I'm not picking on anyone who does, I'm just trying to understand how you came to that conclusion. Please tell me.
 
Isn't it obvious? All our maps and charts are flat. They are folded, too, so the Earth is probably also folded. You hardly ever see a "globe" anymore, so a lot of people must be wising up.
 
I believe the Earth is flat, because everyone who thinks it's round uses circular reasoning!!!

Yeah, we just have to apply good ol' common sense to things like this.

But, seriously, I think it comes from the very prevalent thinking of taking all of the Bible literally. To some minds when the Bible uses the expression, "the four corners of the Earth", they are forced by their one-dimensional, limited ability to think, to have to believe there are four literal "corners" to our Earth.

I was so surprised to hear that people believe the earth is flat. NASA pictures from space show the round earth. It's not like it's the year 1706 and you have no proof.

Because it's mostly conspiracy theorists that believe this. So NASA is just an agency the government uses to deceive people. So naturally all they have to do is say 'that was faked' and they feel they've shut down your argument.
 
well, our main flat earth theorist had a picture of the horizon, clearly with a curve, and a straight line above it,
and he still claimed the horizon was flat , parallel to the line.... so.... apparently they quite literally see the world differently

I think it must be a sort of mental illness. I'm not saying that to be funny, it's sad. My Aunt has this neighbor who is incredibly obsessed with Government conspiracy. He actually has this little group that meets. He's a friendly guy but she's told me he isolates his kid's from almost everything. They homeschool, which isn't a big deal, but they don't know any other kid's or do anything outside of the family. He will not allow them to go to church because it's all government controlled. No YMCA, no sports, nothing, the wife is the same. I think one of those kid's might snap one day. There was a point when he started talking to her 16 year old Granddaughter about this stuff and was giving her pamphlets and she was scared and didn't want to go to school or church, her Father put the stop on that.
 
I honestly haven't ever heard of anyone believing the earth is flat until this year when the first flat earth conspiracy theorist came to cc but if people really believe this it may be a mental illness not in a mean way but I noticed there was absolutely no reasoning with this man and he was devoted with proving the world flat in an un natural way
 
Apparently in Isaiah chapter 40, Isaiah wrote that the earth was a "circle", and apparently there are some who argue that the translation should actually say sphere, and not circle.

(I also liked the verse in Job chapter 26, about how the earth hangs on nothing : p)

There seems to be good reason to believe the bible actually tells us that the earth is in fact round, and I havent actually heard any real bible verse that claims that the earth is flat? Seems to me that God told us that the earth is in fact round : p
 
Maybe we should round the flat earth believers and give them a full 360 in their theory. Huh? Huh? not bad puns eh?
 
EEEEEEEK not another Flat Earth thread. This subject has been done to death. I wonder how many Flat Earthers go on around the world cruises?. One never sees adverts for across the world ones.

Planes weren't even around till 1903, Why is this such a problem that people want to re-investigate a theory presented to the world as truth (heliocentric/globe theory) before "proof" was even an available concept. It is true that most math will work on BOTH models, just because it works on YOUR CHOSEN model doesn't rule out other possibilities.
 
Mental Illness???? Reminds me of what many say Christians have!
