There was one predictable factor in this event- that the cinema's status as a gun free zone made it a softer and more-likely target.

This is not something a court would likely consider, however.

I don't think the theatre is adding insult to injury. They are just getting reimbursed for their legal fees.

I do sympathize though... A great PR move would be for Cinemark to wave the reimbursement. They aren't obligated to, nor do I think they should morally/ethically do it, but it would definitely be taking the high road and help their brand at the same time. Two birds, one stone.

Good point. I wonder why they didn't do that, because it was predictable that the media would slant the story against the business.

Apparently one plaintiff rejected a settlement which made most of the plaintiffs pull out of the law suit...four remained and the judge handed down the decision shortly thereafter. Those poor remaining plaintiffs now carries the burden.

I think that the lawyer who advised them to sue should pay the fees. He probably filed it on a contingency basis anyway.

Well, when people are at a movie theater, or restaurant or wherever, they DO expect a moderate level of security. No one expects to get shot and killed while watching a movie at a drive-in or eating at McDonalds.. JMO
I always expect to be shot at and killed wherever I go. I do not patronize businesses that do not allow me to carry a weapon.

I've open carried into Starbucks before just to be that guy.

The outcome was far from interesting. Turned out the baristas liked it. Granted this was a Starbucks in Alabama.

lol Perhaps on my next trip to the US we should go to a Starbucks in Seattle for you to open-carry. I'm curious how they would react.

Open carry without a permit is perfectly legal there, I'm game.

I have quite a few friends in the PNW actually. They'll throw in. We'll probably trend on Facebook.
