Why Are Pancakes Always Round? | Mental Floss



There's a simple reason why pancakes are round: Because gravity is an excellent chef.
Gravity pulls on fluid uniformly, so when a dollop of batter hits the griddle at a right angle,
it gets tugged down into a round, symmetrical shape. Meanwhile, surface tension helps hold
it in a perfect circle.

If you’re a nonconformist who prefers a Jackson Pollock–style lumberjack breakfast, toss the
batter onto the griddle at an angle. Delicious Abstract Expressionism should result!

Clearly, pancakes are round so that they will stack, one upon another, without having to turn them to get square corners to match up. It was all designed, from the beginning, as a convenience thing that would reduce our stress levels.
 
If there is a thread for waffles and pancakes then we need one for French toast as well. :)

Pancakes are round because they are like a ball and cos they like being eaten.

If a pancake was square and fat or like a cube it would be hard to digest.
 
I think God made pancakes flat so I could stack them higher and then eat them down to the plate like a game.

What kind of pancakes are we talking about?
The very thin, large ones knows as crepe or the thick small ones known as crumpets ?
 
I just made eggs, the yolk was roundish. I'm not sure if that's normal. ;)
