and the republican party machine -does- support trump...they used their weight to silence dissent at the republican convention in cleveland...in exchange trump got his supporters to back the party bosses' naked power grab in the rules committee...

that was the deal they made with trump...of course the american people get ripped off...just like in every other trump deal...

the republican party once stood for limited government...at least on paper...

but now thanks to trump and his supporters making much of the republican primary about illegal immigration...the republican party has abandoned any pretense of standing for limited government principles... now the republicans stand for big government building a wall...big government trade tariffs...big government deportation forces...everything that has come about in the republican party due to the illegal immigration issue has furthered the cause of expanding the scope and power of government...

remember when the nine most terrifying words ever spoken were 'i'm from the government and i'm here to help? now those are the words the republican party is demanding to hear...

all of this change has been due to a republican obsession with illegal immigration and 'securing the border'...it was a trojan horse issue...

and i for one will not vote for any candidate still intent on welcoming the trojan horse of 'securing the border' into the city...it is due to politicians like them that the republican party has sacrificed itself to the baal of big government on the altar of 'border security'...
Sad, really, I guess nobody could ever dream of this, the closet Marxists are taking over...and they are comforting themselves by saying they are conservatives...:(

not only that but the big government liberal trump supporters are insisting that they are the only true conservatives and claiming that those of us who actually have consistently stood against big government are not conservative...

That is not the Republican position. That is Trump's position. And if he gets elected, though I think he is brilliant enough to lead them into bargaining and dealing (which HAS to be done in government, unfortunately.) so that the wall WILL eventually be built..... they will fight against him, tooth and nail, for months or maybe years, on both sides of the aisle over doing it.

You really think he's going to build that wall? It's Big Gov't all the way. Is it really true that the Trump supporters are willing to support an even mightier DC? Don't they somewhat come across a bit liberal by that? Seems to me that the choice of this general is Big Gov't or Big Gov't. I think spotting the difference between the candidates is getting difficult.

I do....if he doesn't it will be for one of two reasons. He lied....or congress blocks him. I have a feeling it will be the latter and congressional members will find themselves unemployed.

In another thread, I said we have to think a little for ourselves. Are you doing that here when you make a statement like that about "Big Government?"

There are 48 states that will receive the benefit of that wall, and who will share in paying the salaries of the officers to man it. Are you saying something like that should be left up to the four states down there to finance?

The same thing with our national security. That benefits us all, and we all (through the federal government) should shoulder the cost. Or, do you think that is being unfair? Same thing with the national traffic system. Everyone uses those interstate highways, so should only a few states cover the cost? Or would you like to start paying state tolls whenever you go on vacation.... no matter how badly a particular state might let its part of the system get run down. Same thing with the Military, and all sorts of other things.

To provide reasonable and nationally beneficial things is why the federal government exists.... not for all the freebee programs the Dims invent.

I'm curious, sister Jenny.... I know you're a pretty levelheaded young lady, but some of your comments have me puzzled...

If you don't believe that securing our borders is a valuable thing to do, what do we do about the issues of enemies of our country being able to flood across the borders with no resistance?

What would be a good approach to stopping it?

First of all I would like to say how grateful I am for your polite way of addresing this:)

Well, let me clarify.

What I'm saying isn't all about the wall. The wall is merely an example. What I'm worried about is the federal aggrandizement I'm seeing in Trump. He's is throwing out bones dressed up like walls to stop illegal immigration, deporting forces etc, which comes across as disguised Big Gov't programs. Once this is on the road, he will, most likely, judging from how he is fixing to be using federal power to make this happen, there will be other DC programs heading our way.

Bottom line, to me he sounds like a liberal democrat that is willing to abuse states rights for his own purposes, by adding to the federal power. To be honest, I'm kinda surprised to see that a lot of good ole republicans don't understand this.

Trump is a businessman, and he is used to be the one making the calls, I'm afraid that power streak will fit a strong DC better than letting 50 states having a say.
