And how does it take control over one's life? It happens by abusing. The Bible says to be aware of all things and conscience of all things. When you are drunk, you lose sense of judgment. That is a line crossed. By the Bible's definition, that would be a sin. I can see this is going nowhere. So I might as well just stop. Three strikes, I'm out.
If it was a sin to drink too much at any time, then Jesus encouraged people to sin at the wedding feast of Cana. There is simply no getting around that. Just as there is no getting around that if you say it is a sin to drink, then you are calling Jesus Christ a sinner.

alot of people do not ever need to be drunk to loose their sense of judgement

the entire globe is evidence of that

I stated many pages back, that alcohol is LEGAL and therefore easy to obtain for anyone...make whatever else causes loss of the facilities legal and see abuse spiral

PEOPLE are the problem

the Bible does not say what folks here are torturing it into saying...the prejudice and myopic viewpoints expressed in this thread are indicative of a bigger problem than alcohol abuse (don't take that personally...it's a general observation)

I agree with your general observation.

I see you responded before I finished editing my post. I ask if you please go back to post 658. You wanted me to read back to your posts, after all. Think it's only appropriate if you do the same with me. With that, if you want to drink heavily simply because Jesus allowed it, go ahead. Just hope you don't become sick after. which, by the way, I don't think Jesus allowed them to get hangovers or become sick after while consuming much more. So if it wasn't a problem, then why do we have hangovers and alcohol poisoning today? Just some food for thought. Here's me waving the white flag now. Take care.

You guys made me think of what alcohol does to me.

If I drink too much, I feel dizzy and a I slur a little.
Mainly it makes me go to sleep.

I knew an alcoholic who it made him talkative and
become the life and soul of a place. It was this
that became addictive, this contact and sharing
with others.

Unfortunately he lost his wife, and ended up killing
himself driving a car into a lamp post while drunk.

Once you realise alcohol relaxes your emotions, you
can do the same thing without alcohol, why damage
yourself and not just enjoy being with people.

This is where I see the meaning of becoming an overcomer.
Most drugs work into addiction because of deeper emotional
needs that the drugs obscure.

In Christ we have the answer to these emotional needs,
if you can walk in it ofcourse.

Children and alcohol

My 3 kids all have been drunk at different times.
And now they avoid this. It gets embarrising and
usually is done by mistake.

It seems to go wrong when getting drunk becomes
a thing, which is really about self destruction and escapism.

That is really dangerous and too many youngsters go here.
But then if your family life is bad, and emotional sharing is poor,
it is one way to appease the pain and hurt and sense of hopelessness.

If you want an real example of this the footballer George Best is a
classic example. A very gifted man, but ended blowing it away.

You have not responded to what I said at all, let alone show that you have any sense of what I say directly to you which is what I have been saying all along, which by the way, I did not request you to go back and read all my posts at all in any way shape or form, so it is clear you have comprehension problems. I simply asked if you had read them, and made clear that I stand on the side of abstinence for myself without pushing it on others. Look at what you come back at me with! So yeah, you completely ignore and twist what I say, twist and add to what the Scriptures say,,, that is all on you. Call Jesus Christ a sinner and you have completely trashed your own testimony. Mine stands intact and solidly rooted in Scripture despite your inability to comprehend it.

A slight digression, in the UK legal highs became a problem which they
have now banned.

Has it happened in the US?

Legal highs were drugs similar chemically to heavy drugs, heroin, cannabis,
cocain but with a slightly different formula so where not proscribed.
Some of these are said to be actually more addictive and dangerous.

They changed the law to say if a drug had an opiate effect it had to be licensed.

But it has demonstrated if you give powerful drugs to people freely, they will destroy
their lives even quicker than if it is illegal.

I had said in the earlier pages drinking in itself isn't an issue. So how is that forcing abstinence if I say it's okay to drink? I drink one or 2 and stop sometimes. So to force abstinence from it completely while I drink one or 2 is kinda hypocritical. And I never called Jesus a sinner. Don't be ridiculous. Looks like you have comprehension problems and twist people's words, too. So pot, meet kettle. I'm seriously done with you and this topic now, because you folks are forgetting what I had initially said in the beginning. That it was okay to drink. You're accusing of folks not understanding but at the same time not bothering to see what they said before. It's just no use any more. Good bye.

Where did I say you were forcing abstinence? Why can you not respond to what I actually say? Look, I did not accuse you of the things you are accusing me of accusing you of. Get real. All along, I have said, IF you do or say this, then you are doing or saying that. If you (general you) say it is a sin to drink, you call Jesus a sinner. If you say it is a sin to overindulge, then you accuse Jesus of encouraging such. Meanwhile I tell you I stand on the side of abstinence and you respond by tell me to drink myself stupid if I want, and go on as if you totally missed that I am clean and sober even after months of talking to you about recovery. Yeah, bye to you.
