Tithing was a part of the Law of Moses. The giving of 10% tithing was for the Jewish people only.
We are not under the Law today. You can tithe what you can tithe. The amount or percentage is up to you. You can tithe 10% or 1% or any amount you can afford. Its NOT the amount we tithe that counts, its the fact we tithe what we we can afford.
If all you can afford is one dollar a week, then tithe that amount. Its not the amount God looks at, its the fact of our tithing that God see's, not the total amount.

Tear up all your credit cards, and close all charge accounts. Sell everything that you don't need. Apply that income to your debt. Sit down and work out a budget. Include a line for giving. Whatever you can, put it in that line and commit it to God. Then get down on your knees or face and commit your effort to God.

There are differing views on this, as you can see from the above. My view is that the term 'tithe' (tenth part, whether "one of ten" or "every tenth as you count off") belongs to the OT law, and that any contribution to a congregation these days is properly called an offering, not a tithe. Further, I believe (from Scripture) that Christians are not at all required or even encouraged to "tithe" (that is, give ten percent of their income). I don't like using the word 'tithe' today because it confuses the idea of offering with the idea of 10%.
What I do believe is that we as Christians are to support the work of the Church, regularly and according to our income, and without compulsion. If you are unable to pay your bills and contribute to your church, pay your bills first. God knows your needs, and "tithing" isn't one of them.

I don't disagree with you, but I have found that many of those who first come to Christ, are in no position to tithe even 1%. I encourage them to find at least a small amount to begin with. I have found that as most of those new Christians who begin by giving something, and live on a budget that gets them debt free, always give more than ten percent.

Pay your bills. If you can't give anything then maybe help someone out, or go out of your way to cheer someone up. I believe if you do these little things and your truly in your heart giving it's not a matter of it being money or not. It's your eager heart he sees. I also tithe outside of a church. Ill donate to charities, buy candy from fundraisers, buy gifts that help people have incomes in third world countries, give money to homeless, buy a officer coffee, etc. IMO this helps far more then your own single church. That seems kinda close minded and selfish IMO when there's people far more needy out there. Even just little things like while shopping and they ask you to round up, or our coffee shops have donations for kids going to camp who can't otherwise afford. These are the things Jesus came to earth to do and lay an example. Give what you can. Even if it's just a hug to someone upset, or buying a coworker who's having a rough day a coffee. It's just about giving, not what your giving per say in my opinion.

ONLY 10% on a given amount is a tithe.
Take $100.
$1.50 on $100 is not a tithe.
$10.01 on $100 is not a tithe.
$75 on $100 is not a tithe.
$10 - and ONLY $10 - is a tithe on $100.
What you wrote can easily be fixed.

Tithing was an O.T. custom. While many churches won't teach it, there were at least 3 types of tithes(Levitical, Poor, Festival) paid, not just one. As a result, Israelites paid far more than 10% in tithes. If you haven't heard this before, research it and be amazed.
What you should do about giving is pray on it and, as Scripture tells us:
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. -2 Cor 9:7
The answer to the question is not a simple yes or no. when tithing what is more important to God is the reason and motive in the persons heart and so if you give all you have for the wrong reason it's fruitless. Another thing is God is well aware of our needs he doesn't expect us to become homeless especially if we have a family to help support.
Here is what I think, I think we should pay our bills responsibly and give tithe as lead to give, if you give 10% that alone is great not everyone even has the courage to do that if you give 30 or more percent then that is great too but know that not everyone is in the same place in faith not everyone has the faith to give even 10% of their income and they should not be looked down upon for this. in the new covenant tithing is not demanded but is instead an exercise of faith and of your heart heck even I have yet to be able to give 10%

Oh stop being so thick. If a group of Christians has come together to accomplish the goal of expanding the Kingdom, and they have determined they need certain basic resources to accomplish this.... then it is the right and responsible thing to do to share the expenses incurred. That is all a sharing of costs they refer to as "tithing" is about at the vast majority of churches. Despite your desperate desire to make it sound like some preacher demands the members pay a certain amount, not a single person here says they attend such an assembly. But you keep trying, hollering and ranting about poor widows being robbed blind.
You and this new member, MOTC, may have been foolish enough to seek out a church where that happened, but none of us seem to attend churches like that.
