This is how I keep them separated in my head:

Affect (verb): To have an influence on or to produce a change in someone or something
Effect (verb): To bring about a change or a result
Effect (noun): The change that results
Affect (noun): This one is a little obscure, but it is related to the word "affection"
Now I'm even more confused lol.

Aw ya big palooka. Well ain't you the bees knees with your fancy talk. You could sweep a gal right off her little kitten heels.
Yeah, I know. Wimmenz dig me with my silver tongue and my romance. Practically chasing them away with a stick.

Some of my grammar pet peeves:

Using the word "less" to mean "fewer"
Saying "for all intensive purposes"
Pronouncing "contra" and "intro" as "conner" and "inner"
Using "alibi" to mean "excuse" (this one is debatable)
Saying "in lieu of" when you really mean "in light of"

Anyone else got any?
My dad wanted me to know we don't get done doing things. We get finished. Roasts get done.
