Allusion (13)

POSIT: Without holiness no one will see the Lord. (Heb. 12:14). We need a
final sanctification to attain true holiness before God, and this process occurs
during our lives and, if not completed during our lives, in the transitional
state of purgatory.

RESPONSE: That allusion contradicts Pope Leo X's Bull of Exurge Domine
which states, among other things, that purgatory's inhabitants are unable to
sin. Obviously then; there is no need to refine their sanctification since a
sinless state of perfection is about as truly holy as one needs to get.

Matt 5:8 . . Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.

But the allusion utterly fails to discern the difference between who is
identified as God and who is identified as the Lord.

1Cor 8:5-6 . . For though there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or
on earth (as there are many gods and many lords) yet for us there is one
God: the Father . . . and one Lord: Jesus Christ

So then, Heb 12:14 is talking about seeing Christ rather than seeing his
Father. And since Rev 1:7 predicts that every eye will eventually see him,
then the seeing spoken of in Heb 12:14 involves something other than
visual; viz: something a bit more intimate.

Matt 11:27 . . No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows
the Father except the Son; and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal
him.

Q: What's the secret to knowing the Lord?

A: In one word: Loyalty.

John 14:21 . . Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the
one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I
will love him and reveal myself to him.

John 14:23 . .Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will
love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.

John 15:14 . .You are my friends if you do what I command you.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Without holiness no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). The NASB reads - "and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord." To be sanctified is to be "set apart/made holy." Yet people who teach salvation by works seem to interpret this verse to mean that "in addition to being justified and sanctified," we must obtain a certain level of "personal holiness" that is attained through our performance if we expect to see God.

"And it is appointed Man ONCE TO DIE AND AFTER THIS THE JUDGEMENT"

2 Corinthians 5:8 (NKJV)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

Revelation 6:9-11 (HCSB)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the people slaughtered because of God’s word and the testimony they had.
[SUP]10 [/SUP] They cried out with a loud voice: “Lord, the One who is holy and true, how long until You judge and avenge our blood from those who live on the earth?”
[SUP]11 [/SUP] So a white robe was given to each of them, and they were told to rest a little while longer until ⌊the number⌋ would be completed ⌊of⌋ their fellow slaves and their brothers, who were going to be killed just as they had been.

Why do the departed human spirits enter Heaven under the ALTAR?

The High Priest after rubbing some of the blood of the sacrifice on the horns of the Altar, the rest of the blood was poured out around the base of the Altar. JESUS our High Priest would have followed the same instruction in Heaven:

Exodus 29:12 (ASV)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger; and thou shalt pour out all the blood at the base of the altar.

Thus every single SAVED human spirit enters Heaven under the Altar, literally through the blood of Jesus Christ poured out at that Heavenly Altar.

Read this verse I posted once again.."And it is Appointed for MAN ONCE TO DIE, THEN ....AFTER THIS...THE JUDGEMENT"...In other words once..not twice..no second chance..no way you can be prayed out, or escape..Read about the Rich Man in Hell talking to Abraham in Luke 16 : verses 19-31.

After your judgement if you go to hell, you will die a second time.;

After your judgement if you go to hell, you will die a second time.;
,

The Second Death is not CEASING to exist, but rather eternal separation from GOD, and punishment.

I know Jesus said:

Matthew 10:28 (HCSB)
[SUP]28 [/SUP] Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

But NOTICE what HE DID NOT MENTION, what happens to the human spirit sent to the Lake of Fire.

Anything you can look at under a microscope is part of the human body.

Any part of the human mind, that is intangible, is part of the human soul, (thoughts, memories, emotions, feelings, cognative abilities, etc.); in fact the Greek word for soul is psyche.

Now the spirit is the part of man that DEPARTS the body the moment of death. The saved to to Heaven to be with the LORD, and the unsaved go to the torment of Hades.

Zechariah 12:1 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] The burden of the word of the LORD concerning Israel. Thus declares the LORD who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him,

Psalm 146:4 (NIV)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 (ESV)
[SUP]23 [/SUP] Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So what happens to the spirits of the unsaved in Hades/Hell?

Matthew 25:46 (NKJV)
[SUP]46[/SUP]And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

NOPE, they do not get to cease to exist, to escape everlasting punishment.

Wrong again..When a person dies who never got properly biblically converted, they go to HELL. those who have been properly converted, They are in a place called "Abraham's Bosom" again..Read Luke 16 verses 29-31 KJV..The Ones in Abraham's Bosom are in a peaceful place awaiting The Great White Throne in Revelation 20 beginning in Verse 21-15. Notice those who were in HELL, get thrown into the Lake of Fire...final judgement..Those who were in Abraham's Bosom are now in Heaven are saved, not needing final Judgement.(Psalm 1 verse5)

What kind of Bible teachers are you listening to:

Abraham's Bosom is not the name of a place. It is a Jewish expression that designates and shows that you are the closest of buddies. It used to be called bosom buddies, here in the US, but fear of looking gay put an end to that in the mid 1900's. It is still popular in the Mideast, and somewhat popular in Europe, and of course Israel.

EVERY JEW will tell that expression "in Abraham's Bosom" is talking about someone walking side by side, and arm in arm with Abraham: HERE are pictures of men walking in each other's bosoms:

SO NO, it is not talking about some place other than Heaven for the believer's spirit. It is expounding on the irony that the Rich man in life thought he was much closer to Abraham, than the beggar Lazarus; when the reality is after Death it was the beggar's human spirit, who was walking in Heaven arm in arm, or hand in hand with Abraham, while the rich man's human spirit was being tormented in Hades.

IT PAYS to study Jewish Customs, if you really want to understand those deep meanings in Scripture.

Hello VCO,

I would have to agree with RBA238 on this. When the rich man and Lazarus died, Lazarus was taken to Abraham's side in a location that was just across from Sheol/Hades which is where the rich man went and was in torment in flame. In between the two places, as described in Lk.16:26, there was a great chasm separating Sheol/Hades and that place of comfort where Lazarus, Abraham and the rest of the OT saints were. When Jesus was on the cross and he said to the man next to him, "today you will be with me in paradise," this place of paradise was the same place where Abraham and Lazarus were.

Satan hates to be exposed. People who preach the truth from God's Word will always face persecution. Jesus said that when people hate on you and persecute you because you follow Him, that you are blessed. Matthew5:11-12 Blessed are you when they revile and pursecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. We live in a society that wants nothing to do with God.Anyway let's expose the lies of the Roman Catholic Church.
1.Praying to Mary is a sin. You shall have no other gods before me. Exodus20:3-5
2.You can't pray someone out of hell. Purgatory does not exist. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgement. Hebrews9:27
3. The only way to God is through Jesus. The Pope can't save you, and praying to Mary won't help you. John17:3 And this is eternal life that they may know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. Christians need to learn the Bible so they won't be deceived by Satan's lies. To God be the Glory. Preacha24-7

The verses are granted, a Type and Shadow of what will happen and where each person passes unto until the Great White Throne Judgement. Notice those on Hell could not come unto "Abraham's Bosom" nor could those in "Abraham's Bosom" go to Hell or vice versa.
Notice those in hell felt heat, Thirst, torment, all those in Abraham's Bosom had peace and no torment...and finally, read where those who come up out of hell are Thrown on the Lake of Fire...Notice those in "Abraham's Bosom" Never stand in The White throne judgement...they are saved.

Hello VCO,

I know that was what we were always taught from childhood on, largely because of a misunderstanding of what the term "He led captivity captive" meant. However, through various Bible Teachers such Dr. John MacArthur, Zola Levitt, and many others, I have grown into a better understanding of that term, and how it better fits Scripture.

The origin of that term is a Military expression that dates back to at least the time of the Judges:

Judges 5:12 (KJV)

[SUP]12 [/SUP] Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam.

We Christians for centuries have thought it was referring to returning our O.T. Believers, who were POWs, from the good side of Hades taking them to Heaven. That error is largely generated not only because of a misunderstanding of the term lead thy captivity captive, but also a misunderstanding of what His descending into the "lower parts of the earth" was all about:

Ephesians 4:8-10 (KJV)

[SUP]8 [/SUP] Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
[SUP]9 [/SUP] (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
[SUP]10 [/SUP] He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

NOW when we first misunderstood that term led captivity captivity, we also erroneously started thinking there had to be a good side of Hades, lower in the earth that was raised, because of this verse, which the NIV only served to rekindle that error in understanding:

Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,

HOWEVER look at that verse in the Young's Literal Translation, and we see the NIV translation team may have carried their misunderstanding of that verse directly into the text.

Isaiah 61:1 (YLT)

[SUP]1 [/SUP] The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is on me, Because Jehovah did anoint me To proclaim tidings to the humble, He sent me to bind the broken of heart, To proclaim to captives liberty, And to bound ones an opening of bands.

Where did the NIV get "from darkness"? From their misunderstanding that there had to be a good side of hades below at one time.

NOW lets go back and look at the correct meaning of the Military term "led captivity captive", which did not mean to set captives free. Throughout Bible Times, wherever there was a Great Military Victory, it was the custom to bring back not only the spoils of War, but also some of those guards in chains, who had at one time had held the Victor's POWs; to be marched in the KING'S Victory Parade. The focus is on the Enemy's GUARDS, not on the Captives. Those GUARDS are DEATH and THE GRAVE.

1 Corinthians 15:54-55 (ASV)

[SUP]54 [/SUP] But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
[SUP]55 [/SUP] O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting?

The Enemy's Guards, death and the Grave were Led in Christ's VICTORY PARADE all the way to Heaven, and that IS NOT A SURPRISE TO GOD the FATHER.
It was part of HIS PLAN FROM BEFORE THE EARTH WAS FORMED. And WHATEVER GOD PLANS IS A DONE DEAL BEFORE IT EVER HAPPENS.

Isaiah 46:11 (HCSB)

[SUP]11 [/SUP] I call a bird of prey from the east, a man for My purpose from a far country. Yes, I have spoken; so I will also bring it about.I have planned it; I will also do it.

THEREFORE IN GOD's UNDERSTANDING, Christ the Messiah's death, burial, Victory over DEATH (Resurrection), and ASCENSION into Heaven to pour HIS SACRIFICIAL BLOOD AT THE BASE OF THE ALTAR IN HEAVEN, WAS A DONE DEAL THE MOMENT HE PLANNED IT.

THEN on top of that GOD SAYS:

Malachi 3:6 (NKJV)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] "For I am the LORD, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

With that verse in mind, HOW did we EVER get it into heads that BELIEVERS of the Old Testament had their human spirits depart to the good side of Hades in the Lower Parts of the earth, while our human spirits go directly to Heaven, when GOD SAYS HE DOES NOT CHANGE?

If we want to see how and when all Saints, whether they be O.T., N.T. or Tribulations Saints, enter Heaven; all we have to do is find in Scripture where tells us what happens to the human spirits; BECAUSE GOD DOES NOT CHANGE.

Psalm 146:4 (NKJV)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish.

2 Corinthians 5:8 (ASV)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] we are of good courage, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.

Revelation 6:9-11 (HCSB)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the people slaughtered [beheaded] because of God’s word and the testimony they had.

So is going directly to Heaven upon one's Death a New Testament thought only? NO, it is at least as old as the Book of Ecclesiastes:

Ecclesiastes 3:21 (HCSB)

[SUP]21 [/SUP] Who knows if the spirit of people rises upward and the spirit of animals goes downward to the earth?

Zechariah 12:1 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] The burden of the word of the LORD concerning Israel. Thus declares the LORD who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him,

Job 32:8 (KJV)

[SUP]8 [/SUP] But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

Job 12:10 (YLT)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] In whose hand is the breath of every living thing, And the spirit of all flesh of man.'

Remember, ALL THE SAVED have their names written in the LAMB'S BOOK OF LIFE, before the foundation of the world.

HENCE, considering the LORD DOES NOT CHANGE, the only two choices of what happens to the human spirits upon DEATH, is the Saved go UP to be with the LORD, and the Unsaved go DOWN to the torment of Hades; and that is the GREAT GULF THAT IS FIXED.

SO WHAT IS HIS DESCENDING INTO THE LOWER PART OF THE EARTH ABOUT: It really does not give us much info about that, and it may only be a reference to entering the grave. However there is another theory that bares consideration too. Since our KING was leading HIS VICTORY PARADE all the way to Heaven, would He not want to start with proclaiming that VICTORY personally to demons in the pit that tried to pollute the human race, so that Messiah could not be born of a Virgin?

With all due respect, I wasn't taught anything growing up by anyone. As far as understanding the meaning of the scripture, I can read this event it in plain print:

====================================

“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.

In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’

" ‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”
====================================

So, we have two men whose bodies are said to have died, with their spirits/souls being somewhere else, which is described as a location that is separated from Sheol/Hades where the rich man's spirit/soul is in torment in flame.

In between these two places is a great chasm which separates these two areas. One is a place of comfort/paradise and the other is a place of torment in flame.

Abraham and Lazarus whose bodies have died, are having a conversation with the spirit/soul of the rich man whose body has also died. They can see, feel, converse and they have memory of when they were alive in their bodies on the earth.

This is not a parable in that, parables use symbolism to represent what is literal. In the event of the rich man and Lazarus, real people are referred to as well as the literal location of Sheol/Hades.

In my opinion and based on the scripture, Jesus was revealing a literal event that took place. After Christ's resurrection, the righteous no longer go into that same place as where Abraham and Lazarus went, but scripture states that when a believer dies they go immediately to be in the presence of the Lord. However, for those who die without Christ, when they die their spirits/souls still go down into Sheol/Hades, where the rich man went and still is, awaiting the great white throne judgment.

With all due respect, I wasn't taught anything growing up by anyone. As far as understanding the meaning of the scripture, I can read this event it in plain print:

====================================

====================================

I agree it is a biographical event, none of the parables that Jesus taught ever had a NAME given to one of the characters. The fact that HE specifically retold the EXACT number of brothers the rich man had; totally puts it out of the realm of a parable. The fact that JESUS did not tell us the name of the Rich Man, tells me that at least one or more of the brothers was listening to him. The comment about Abraham's Bosom, is NOT A PLACE, but rather descriptive reference showing their very close relationship and the close arm in arm traditions of very close friends:

So how do you square your theory with the FACT that GOD DOES NOT CHANGE? When you say O.T. Saints went some place other than where we go; THAT IS A MAJOR CHANGE.

Then when you look at the Book of Revelation, we find that Everyone who was ever saved has his or her name written in the Lamb's Book of Life; and anyone whose name was NOT WRITTEN THERE, before the earth was formed, ends up in the Lake of FIRE.

Revelation 3:5 (NRSV)
[SUP]5 [/SUP] If you conquer, you will be clothed like them in white robes, and I will not blot your name out of the book of life; I will confess your name before my Father and before his angels.

Revelation 13:5-8 (NRSV)
[SUP]5 [/SUP] The beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months.
[SUP]6 [/SUP] It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven.
[SUP]7 [/SUP] Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. It was given authority over every tribe and people and language and nation,
[SUP]8 [/SUP] and all the inhabitants of the earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slaughtered.

Revelation 21:27 (RSV)
[SUP]27 [/SUP] But nothing unclean shall enter it, nor any one who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Therefore, all OT Saint, MUST HAVE HAD their names written in the book of life before the foundation of the world, too.

HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR THEORY THAT OT & NT SAINTS GO TO DIFFERENT DEPARTING LOCATIONS WITHOUT GOD CHANGING?

Another TRUTH that I believe about Mal. 3:6 is the fact that because it says that GOD DOES NOT CHANGE; all we have to do is find HOW GOD SAVED ONE MAN, and we will know how HE saves everyone that is SAVED.

Romans 4:3 (ESV)
[SUP]3 [/SUP] For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.

Thus all O.T. Saints were saved that way and all N.T. Saints are saved that way.

You are confusing Hades and Hell.

Hell is the LAKE of FIRE, and Hades is the place torment for the disembodied human spirits of the unbelievers.

Jesus clearly stated the contents of Scriptureafter He had risenand it did not include the apocrypha (Luke 24.44). The Psalms were cited as the largest book in the Hagiographa.

The septuagint was NOT the official canon of Scripture at the time of Jesus ministry. That is pure wishful thinking. He stated the canon above. It was a useful tool among Greek Christians because it was in Greek,

It is such ignorance and loose thinking that perpetuates Roman Catholicism,,

Ignorance and loose thinking. Hmmm

While the New Testament authors quoted the LXX frequently, it does not necessarily follow that Christ did. Either way, it doesn’t matter, because the Greek New Testament is inspired, and the Holy Spirit chose to have the sacred authors repeatedly cite the LXX. It doesn’t really matter if Jesus was quoting Scripture in Hebrew or Aramaic if the Holy Spirit chooses to use the Septuagint when translating his words into Greek. The importance of the Septuagint is demonstrated no matter which of these is the case.

Here is an example where the Greek gospels present Jesus as quoting the Septuagint: In Mark 7:6–7, Jesus quotes the LXX of Isaiah 29:13 when he says, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.’"

(On a side note)
Of course, the reason people usually ask about the New Testament authors’ use of the Septuagint is because it contains the seven deuterocanonical books that are now omitted from Protestant Bibles. Showing that the New Testament authors quoted from the LXX argues in favor of the inspiration of these seven books.

Septuagint

I agree with your Abraham Bosom. The Hebrews call it Shoel while the Greeks called it Hades. It was split into two parts and we see in the story of the Rich man and Lazarus. (Luke 16: 19-31)

When Jesus went to Hell for a period of time before he arose he brought back those saints with him. Ephesians 4:8-10 (KJV) and the buried bodies for those souls raise up from their tombs. Matthew 27:52-53 (KJV).

All those in Christ at death after this go directly to heaven and await the rapture where their bodies will be raised before taking the rest of those alive that are in Jesus Christ into the Clouds.

you know your Bible...tks

LET ME TRY THIS ANOTHER WAY.

John 13:23 (ASV)
[SUP]23 [/SUP] There was at the table reclining in Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.

THAT IS NOT SAYING that John was leaning with his head on the chest of JESUS. Doesn't anyone study Jewish Customs and Tradition any more? First of ALL John was NOT the only one RECLINING, they ALL were Reclining for the Passover Meal.

This is NOT what the Last Supper looked liked:

images

The Jewish Passover Table of 2000 years ago, was NOT A DINING TABLE AND CHAIRS. John DID NOT have his head on the chest of JESUS, and NONE THEM were seated in chairs. The Passover Table would have been very low to the ground like a Japanese table of two hundred years ago. AND everyone was reclining on Cushions such as this picture portrays:

images

The position of honor, which immediately to the right hand side of the HOST, is reserved for the Host's best friend or guest of honor. NOW pick out which one is JOHN in this picture. AND THAT POSITION is also called being in the bosom of the HOST. NOW read John 13:23 above again. If you can understand that is what John was talking about.

This artist most likely understand Jewish Customs and Traditions, and how they relate to being "in Abraham's Bosom"; most absolutely do not understand what it is saying.

You should now find it much easier to understand this one:

Luke 16:22-23 (ASV)
[SUP]22 [/SUP] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham's bosom: and the rich man also died, and was buried.
[SUP]23 [/SUP]
And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

NOW TELL ME, with that info, WHICH SIDE OF ABRAHAM WAS LAZARUS STANDING, KNEELING, WALKING, OR SITTING, WHICHEVER IT WAS?

It is NOT talking about the name of a PLACE, but rather the position of honor that Lazarus was in.

RECLINING AT PASSOVER

[quote]Why do we recline to our left side at the seder?

By Menachem Posner

It was the custom of ancient royalty to recline on the left for two reasons:
a) Food is normally held in the right hand. Leaning toward the left leaves the right hand free.
b) Leaning on the right is a choking hazard. It can prevent the epiglottis from covering the trachea, allowing food to enter and stop the flow of oxygen.
Wishing you a happy and kosher Passover!

[/quote]

Some Jewish assemblies (both Synagogues and Messianic Churches) set both the traditional Jewish Tables and modern tables to give people a choice.

So you can dismiss this image as only a European artist's unlearned imagination:
