God's advice for a sinner who stood directly in front of him:


Yeshua stood up and said to her, "Woman, where are they?
Has no one condemned you?"
She said, "No one, Lord."
And Yeshua said, "Neither do I condemn you;
go, and from now on sin no more."

I scanned the responses here: I have a point I didn't see mentioned directly (though I might have missed it).

I think a key to Jesus saying "go and sin no more" was the love and acceptance that came through the tone of words and through the eyes of Jesus to this woman. Did she live perfectly after this? Probably not - but with the love and the acceptance of a person behind us we have a much better foundation for living.

I agree with Mike on this one. The price of our sin has already been paid and we shouldn't worry about not being forgiven of our sin. In order to repent of our sin we need to turun away from the sin. I'll give an example using kids since I used to teach them haha. If a child were to steal a dollar out of your purse and you caught them and they said "I'm sorry, please forgive me" and all is forgiven. But two days later you find them in your purse again. Again they ask for forgiveness, but you can tell they aren't truly sorry. Do your forgive them? Yes, but that doesn't mean you trust them, but you keep a much closer eye on them. I know it's a crazy story, but it's the same idea you need to understand God forgives us no matter what, but we also need to understand that we need to reastablish the trust and relationship we have with our heavenly Father when we repeatedly sin

Wait. No. This is why many people live in fear. What if they can't reestablish that trust?! Their eternity depends on it. That is a harsh God. This fear is the root of so many many problems of today.

Law makes us self-conscious. Grace makes us Christ conscious.

This is true, but the point made by renewed-hope is a good one. When we constantly return to sin our relationship with Jesus is compromised. Unlike renewed-hope God sees our hearts, He does not just hear our words.

God dose expect us to say sorry and show repentance for all the sins that the Holy Spirit convicts us of, but it is what we do after this that matters. If we walk away where is relationship? If I hurt my wife through being stupid, I will not only say sorry, as I should, but I would try and bring to heart why I did the stupid thing in the first place. This is not working to earn salvation it is renewing our minds when we put this into practice with Jesus.

Unlike my wife who by now would have thrown a blanket on to the sofa, when I do the same thing again, God sees my heart, and He sees the hurt I cause myself by causing Him more hurt. Yes His grace does abound, and this is the secret of relationship, we can keep going back to God and Jesus.

We Hold tight to Jesus and He dose what He is in heaven for, He continually intercedes for us with Father. He renews our minds and renews us, and eventually because He loves us so much we will not do what we have been doing, and when this happens we can truly worship God because we can see what he has done in us to change us.

You ae saying what I said, a woman caught in adultery....does the Bible say she was a harlot? If not why do so many young and old preachers preach she was a harlot...the Bible never says that and to suggest it, by reason she was committing adultery is not the truth...

I believe she did commit adultery, as the Bible says "a woman caught in adultery." If this wasn't the case then Jesus wouldn't have a reason to tell her to "sin no more".

I understand why she would be identified as harlot based on her actions but if you don't agree that's fine. We both agree though that it was all a trap for Jesus, as you have posted earlier, the law requires both parties of the crime, obviously the man was not there but only the woman brought that was brought to Jesus. We don't really have all the details but clearly the motive itself was evil but Jesus saw through it.

Trying to outsmart Jesus using the Law? Didn't turn out too well for them.

Blessings to you too, brother. I get your point, completely. I understand that when we hurt someone we can't just say sorry and not deal with it.

Here is my point. Before Jesus died on the Cross, God couldn't even look at us (Habakkuk 1:13) in our sinfulness (there was no hope for us Gentiles). When the Jews sinned, under the law, they had to put their hands upon the head of their sacrifice (literally, Leviticus 1:4-5), then the sacrifice is slain and blood is sprinkled upon the altar. By this, the sinner and the Father's relationship is restored. (NOT BY ANY GOOD WORKS INCLUDING TRYING TO DO BETTER OR FOLLOWING COMMANDMENTS).

In the same way, today, Jesus has become our sacrifice.

Now, I understand the comparison to our human relationships. When we sin against someone, we hurt them so we try to make it up to them (because we love them and we don't want them to feel the hurt anymore).

When we sin, against God, today, really, is there anything we can do to make it up to Him? Yes, there is, actually. But, and this supports the point I'm making, it is not trying to do good. It is not condemning ourselves and feeling bad for committing sin. It is not trying to be a better person (not that it's wrong to be a better person). The only thing that pleases God is faith (Hebrews 11:6). Faith in what, exactly? Faith in Him that He exists, that He is our sacrifice. This doesn't only concern our salvation, it concerns everything in our lives.

By repeated sin do you mean habitual sin, or rather repeated transgression of the law?

I can see two points that I would like to bring out.

1) Jesus Himself gave the law of Moses about adultery in Matt. 5:26-27 . Ex. 20:14 and Deut. 5:18. I'm pretty sure adultery is still adultery. Have you ever noticed that Jesus "elevated the Law of Moses" to reflect what the purpose of the law of Moses was really there for?

[SUP]28 [/SUP] but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

2nd point I would like to bring out: Have you ever noticed that those that advocate we go back to the Law of Moses for life and living after coming to Christ - never actually do the whole Law themselves? - they just pick the bits and pieces that they think are "do-able" to them. James says that if we break one law - we are guilty of it all.

I wonder why those that are in Christ - are dead to the law, have been released from the Law of Moses, and are NOT under the Law of Moses - and yet some well-intentioned people ( I am assuming and hoping that it is true ) still try to get us to desert Christ ( Gal. 1:6 ) for going back to the law of Moses just like Paul had to confront in the book of Galatians.

that's and old and effective tactic, to shift the focus off the real question being discussed and attack something closely related to it. most don't catch it, but anyone with discernment can see right through it. so how about you address the 2 points directly and we will see what the evidence in scripture shows.

I did address your points.....you just didn't like the way I answered or what I said which is perfectly understandable given the circumstances....here is what you said.

It is obvious that the man was not being accused of adultery too but as shown by myself and the others that adultery is still adultery whether the man is accused or not at the same time. The woman herself was caught in it and the law says for her to be stoned.

These are no different than the woman caught in adultery - just a manifestation of a different kind of sinning. It is called "unbelief" and self-righteousness.

Christ doesn't condemn the self-righteous that think they are righteous because they "do the Law" as all Pharisees and scribes thought they were righteous - they end up condemning themselves because they don't trust in Christ's work of grace for them but instead they trust in their "law-keeping".

This is denying the Lord and our Master - Christ Jesus Himself and relying on an old obsolete system.

Did you notice how our loving Lord Jesus defended this woman from those that wanted to "obey the law of Moses" and stone her?

Most earthly fathers are not even that way,

They love us whether we do everything they say, or we repeatedly sin against them, We are still their daughter or sons, Blood ties can not be broken, neither cna the love of a child..

We may be angry, we may be hurt or upset. But that does not mean we are kicked out of their family.

If father "A" says to his child, I love you. Go and do anything you want. There are no rules in this house.

and father "B" says to his child, I love you, but you have to learn my rules. I know more than you do and I want to protect you.

Seems to me some people have there focus on the wrong issue.

They want to focus on rules and regulations, And not on love.

They sound good (wisdom of men) because it talks to our flesh.. Of course a father is more loving if he shows guidelines and tries to steer their loved on in a way which will benefit them.

That is not the issue though, this issue is, Will the father kick them out of their family, and stop being their father if the child does not obey them.

And then we have the real issue when we talk about God. How good is good enough? In Gods eyes, His glory states perfection is it, If you commit one sin, you are guilty of the whole law. and as such, under a curse (death)

so when are people going to focus on grace, and stop focusing on the law. Which they can not fulfill no matter how hard they try.

The woman caught in adultery is for me one of the most moving passages in the gospels.

I am touched by the hypocracy of the teachers of the law, wanting to put up for question
the life of a person to trap Jesus, the woman herself and Jesus's reaction.

There is so much understanding of all the people.
