The VP Debate - anyone watch it?

I saw most of it. Kaine wouldn't shut up for more than 2 seconds the whole time.. and Pence's mic wasn't as loud as Kaine's... was that just an innocent little oversight by the sound department??

I think Pence won, but Kaine did a decent job himself. Kaine didn't fold like Trump did against Hillary.

Pence demolished Kaine on foreign policy and on abortion, and he did it like gentleman. Who was calm professional and sound in his political logic. I wish he could do Trumps debates for him ha! But he brought up a lot of things I really hope Trump will come this Sunday.

Pence was terrible. When asked if it's fair that Trump didn't pay hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes he rambled on like a blubbering idiot when all he had to say was Trump was in accordance with the law. End of story.

Your response would have been better, without a doubt... but if anything, Pence did a fantastic job of not taking the bait that Kaine was giving him about all the garbage Trump has said/done.

That is probably one of the few minor mistakes Pence made... He definitely won this debate. He knew it was impossible to defend the indefensible, so they probably prep'd him to not bite like how Trump bit on everything Hillary threw at him.

These 2 guys should have run for president.

Either one is more qualified for the job & both acted more presidential.

One defends a bloviating bench-warmer and the other defends a bloviating billionaire.

It's a tough year for the Conservative Christian voter.

Why do the American people,I believe the poll said about 70% of the people want to see them'(Trumps taxes.)

Would you expect them to look at an answer like "I won't show them until after the audit" as an acceptable answer?

There must be a reason even the republicans are saying he should release his taxes.

I wonder why the people don't accept his saying that he Is within his rights as an acceptable answer?

I imagine Donald Trump Is not happy with Pence choosing to look Presidential rather than defend him.

I don't blame Pence for not trying to defend the Indefensible.

Let his surrogates that are on payroll do that.

Going to a public beach and taking pictures of preteens in their bikinis is 100% legal and in accordance to the law too... but that doesn't make it acceptable in the court of public opinion.

Similarly, I will assume guilt given the evidence and facts we do know about Trump when discussing his refusal to release his taxes. He is well within his right to NOT release them, but that doesn't make it acceptable to me personally.

it does seem fishy. for a man who attaches so much of his personal identity to his wealth, and who is so given to vain boasting, to be so unwilling to be open about what that wealth actually is, seems to me to indicate that he feels disclosing it would be either very embarrassing or damaging or both.

if i had to guess i'd say it would show that he's not as wealthy as he makes himself out to be, and that he has either paid very little or no taxes at all for a long time, and that his 'tax plan' is likely to personally benefit himself a great deal. he says a lot of carefully calculated things to rile up crowds and stir up meaningless nationalism, but i've never had the sense that his personal interest in this country extends very far beyond his own welfare or, by proxy, the welfare of people in his own income bracket and financial/business position - 'trickle-down' designed to benefit what he considers the real 'backbone' of the country, the privileged class that is able to hide their wealth in tax shelters and use contrivances not available to the poor to increase wealth by investment and other incomes either untaxed or taxed at lower rates.

rather than perceiving an ethical burden to use his wealth to benefit his country and the less fortunate, he believes he is "smart" for avoiding taxes. he is smart enough, granted it seems, to realize that his political base doesn't share exactly the same opinion about the rich getting richer, and it looks for all the world like releasing his taxes might clearly demonstrate exactly that pattern, opening him up to all kinds of class-imbalance attacks about having substantial wealth and not at all paying anything like a 'fair share.'

i love NPR. no commercials, publicly funded, able to devote hours upon hours to deep coverage of news instead of doing the whole bumper-sticker-length sound byte thing networks do, spending tons of cash on eye candy and having to break every few minutes for soap and car commercials.

the right wing tried pretty hard to shut it down a few years back and started a lot of talk about them being left-leaning, but i think they're actually among the most balanced and fair of all the news outlets, at least, 'all things considered' is relatively unbiased, and local stations carry shows requested and paid for by local subscribers. because that's the model, shows carried in your area tend to reflect the ideology of the people that actually support the station. maybe people with a more left-leaning opinion are more likely to contribute to the station?

where i used to live, there were more sort of 'liberal' shows on-air -- actually more 'libertarian' or independent shows, certainly not DNC shills. but the 'right' calls anything that's not equally 'right' a 'liberal' outlet. i've moved south, deeper into the Bible belt, and the local station doesn't carry any shows like that. it actually carries far less news and commentary at all, and the one or two it does are much more right-leaning. the station down here seems to have comparatively very little local support, actually, and almot no news/commentary shows at all beyond the bare minimum. people down here aren't very 'engaged' with that sort of thing, or, i guess, they are completely satisfied with FOX and a few extreme-right radio broadcasts that feel like they are, coincidentally, about 60% advertisement and the rest in no uncertain terms far, far right. there's really no 'balance' to the radio news around here at all.

anyway that's silly of you. i'm sure there are an hundred places to get the transcript and an hundred more to watch the full vid. if they were editing the reporting they would be called out within 5 minutes of posting.

i liked that NPR's page there gives fact-checking right in place in the discussion, and includes the whole thing -- so you can see the context of what was said. also their page isn't full of flash-advertisements and links to totally unrelated stuff. :)

Pence did well. I wish he would've brought up more of hillarys lies though. As well as more about how she should be in prison for her criminal activities. He only mentioned it briefly before the moderator cut him off. He should've also mentioned hillary laughing about getting that rapist off the hook knowing he was guilty. As well as her lying about the victim. He did bring up the clinton foundation which was good. Kaine on the other hand was trying his best to cover Hillarys incompetence

Um,you compare a pervert with what all Americans do.

Under your example,I as a small business owner,am a pervert for keeping as much money as the law allows.

I am doing my taxes now,and have had 2 meetings with professionals, and 4 meetings with semi professionals to do what trump and All AMERICANS do. Pay as little as the law allows.

My return for a mom and pop small business is 6 pages long.

What is trump's? 6 inches thick?

Btw,he is audited every year.

Huh?

NPR is radically,radically,radically LEFT,progressive.

They make no apologies for their hatred of the right.

The last presidential debate had 13 question against trump personally

2against Hillary.

That debate last night was a similar ambush.

Pence did great In the debate, and I thought he came across,Presidential, but If Hillary had not have played Trump so well In there debate and the media talked about It so much,I'm not so sure Mike would have played It so well.

And by playing It so well,I mean, not trying to defend the Indefensible.
He ended up throwing Donald under the bus Instead of doing what Donalds surrogates would have done.

I don't think Donald could possibly be happy about that but he(Donald)will try to play the hand he was dealt,

And that would be flip-flopping guesing that the bar for him Is set so low that the American people will just shrug their shoulders and look the other way.
