We use it as a great opportunity to pass out gospel tracts. Imagine, people coming to your house to receive candy attached to a gospel tract. That tract can get into homes where I may not be able to get. That tract may be read and passed around to several people. That tract may be a blessing to believers coming by and may prompt a believer to awaken. We give tracts and leave it to God in prayer for the results.
Are they Jack Chick tracts which promote bigotry, intolerance and hate? and only led to fear based false conversations that do not lead anyone into discipleship?

Or something different and better

On the other hand it could invite having eggs thrown at your house and having to clear it up
So could turning your lights off and ignoring them. Thankfully, I haven't had anything happen as of yet. If it does, I'll wash it off praising the Lord.:)

Don't choke on the mini kit-kat trying to cast out the demon of candy calories on demi now Kayla!

;)
I do think the best thing they came up with was giving out candy at local churches and dressing like Bible characters. Its more safe I think than going door to door. At least Christian kids have a way to have fun too. I dont care too much when they are real young, its pretty cute to see them. I remember we had a new pastor came to our church when I was a kid. He preached such a sermon against Halloween that everyone kept their kids home that year for fear that either the pastor would see or God would smite them. My parents took us to Mc Donalds for supper. Im not big on the ghosts and witches deal. But I think having a party at church has been a good idea.

You do know that All Hallows Eve or Halloween or All Saints Day Eve is a Catholic Christian Holiday and not a pagan festival right?
In the UK Halloween is a relatively new American import. We have a traditional Bonfire night on November 5 which has been overshadowed by Halloween. Bonfire night marked the day when Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament and we let off fireworks and children made a 'Guy' which was a Guy Fawkes effigy to be burned on a Bonfire.. Halloween is just another excuse to sell stuff very few people take it as seriously as some on this site. With all the terrible things going on in the world giving kids sweets seems pretty trivial to me.

My church organizes a collection drive for the local food bank on October 31. It's widely advertised, we send out paper bags for canned goods, and we borrow a local hall to collect, sort and box the food. People are expecting visitors at the door, so even if they don't know about it, they are generous. We also manage to ignore Halloween in the process. The last few years we've exceeded 50,000 pounds of food collected. I'd like to see such an initiative in other communities.

I totally agree, but I do not make a big deal out of those that want to take their kids door to door either. I think it is pretty easy to ignore all the the spooky and evil spirited things.....After all, the big bad scary Satan images are from the minds of the religious not the pages of the Bible...The Bible says Satan was perfect in creation, full of wisdom and exquisitely beautiful

Not a horned being with cloven feet and a tail and fangs....Most of the people who we have seen come out of the real occult are not frightful either....I think we forget something very powerful, the only tool that Satan has is deception and the power to make you work against yourself....

All that said, I am not naive to the rituals of the occult and black magic, etc. I just think religion puts way more emphasis on it than is needed....IOW, I think religion gives the Devil way too much credit...

I think the whole thing depends on what your definition is of "celebrate".

We have a pumpkin carving contest and friends over for fun and in NO WAY "celebrate" anything evil. We also have a super bowl party, sometimes St Patrick's day, and other times a game night party.

We all love Jesus and know we are free from the judgment of those who aren't, or claim to be.

Oh, our Church also sponsors a trunk or treat, where we spread the love of Christ as well as snicker bars to less fortunate inner city kids.

the important thing that defines the heart and mind of anyone who thinks it's evil to have anything to do with Halloween or not is to have a healthy perspective of it. some would say that carving pumpkins eating candy dressing up in costumes is worshipping Halloween and thus the devil all I know is that it's the one day of the year I can dress up like a pokemon trainer and not be seen as crazy lol

To feed the little monsters candy or no?

Scripture? What do you think that Jesus would do?

I'm sure that there are threads about it in other forums, but I wanted to know if you think the Bible says 'no'.
[h=3]Ephesians 5:11[/h][h=3][/h] Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

What does Christ have to do with Hallows eve ? Depart form her ;come out of her!

No. I wont be handing out candy. I turn my porch light OFF

Out of all of the pagan holidays that the Roman Catholic Church syncretized into their attempt to worship God, Halloween is probably the most obviously wrong. Every tradition done for this day, while commercialized, has a root and tradition that is steeped in the occult. Just because the Roman Catholic Church decided to create a day to worship the deceased saints (also wrong) and try to cover up the worship of Samhain doesn't change the nature of the day itself. Have nothing to do with the unfruitful works of darkness, but expose them.

This is a good time to give people truth regarding the Lord. However, we shouldn't utilize and implement the same practices in order to make it more feasible to people. Tracts may be a good idea.

I give the kids candy on the rare occasion they knock on my door. I don't give them chocolate, though, because of the caffeine. (I never ingest caffeine.)

I have nothing against people not having anything to do with Halloween but when they point the finger and judge others and call them horrible names for doing so that is when I have an issue. Regardless of what we believe of Halloween it was never our job or a our place to judge others or point the finger. I think if I asked God about if it's right to have anything to do with Halloween or not the only answer I can think of him replying to me is what is your heart behind it?
