God did not say that Adam and Eve could not eat of the tree of life.
The tree of life is a tree whose food source,causes a person to live forever,which the tree of life is in the New Jerusalem.
When Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,and rebelled against God,they fell out of favor with Him,which in the New Testament by the Spirit a person could repent of the sin,and get back right with God,but in the Old Testament they could not have the Spirit,so when Adam and Eve sinned they fell out of the image of God,and nobody was in the image of God until Jesus came,and then all who have the Spirit.
When Adam and Eve were ousted from the garden the tree of life was protected by two Cherubs,lest Adam and Eve ate of the tree and live forever,which being in the state they were in that they fell out of the image of God,which is the only way to have a right relationship with God,they would of lived forever in that state,and then there would be no reversal,or correction,for them to be saved,and then all their offspring would of been in the same situation and would have no chance to be saved.
Adam and Eve could eat of the tree of life as long as they were in the image of God,but when they fell out of the image of God,He made sure that they did not eat of it,or nobody else for that matter,seeing no person was in the image of God until Jesus,which is an innocent nature in flesh,which Jesus could not sin,but Adam and Eve were in the image of God,an innocent nature in flesh,but had the capability to sin,which Adam and Eve would of never sinned,or thought about it,unless an outside source tempted them.

Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Its rather arrogant of atheists to say they know with 100% certainty that there is no God,no possibility of an intelligent designer. At least and agnostic will be truthful enough to say they don't know. Of all the people who have believed in God down through the years you can say Im more intelligent than all of them and I know there is no God? Arrogant.
