Okay, I tried to find a few pictures of myself where I hadn't actually "fixed" my hair, to give a true idea of what it looks like naturally. Does longer hair "age" me? Look frumpy? Unkempt? Am I overthinking this? Hahahaha.

(Good idea about cutting it off 4 inches at a time, btw, thanks!)

Also, I promise I don't actually spend that much time thinking about these silly things. Not sure why it's bothering me right now! I'm putting the question out onto the internet because I figure you all will be more honest with me since you don't really know me. :p

I can only see the very first picture you posted, but it looks fine. I dont see anything wrong with it, so Id say youre just thinking about it too much : p If you take care of it, then it should look fine.

I agree with the post about shoulder length hair, though. Ive kept my hair at my shoulders for about ten years now. Its a nice amount of hair : p Its really easy to manage and take care of, but it also doesnt make me feel like I had to cut all my hair off. (I really enjoy having hair on my head, and I could really care less about what people think about it : p)

As for hair styles, I actually think short hair on females is really underrated, I think it can look great. Im not talking about like a buzz cut or anything extreme like that, obviously. (I dont think that looks good on anyone anyway)

Grace your hair actually does suit you, maybe if you want a
change you can get it layered rather than all one length?

Thanks for the help, friends! Hellooo, my hair doesn't hold any curl, so it wouldn't look like any of those pictures unfortunately. Layered shoulder-length is an option though!

Laura, there's not a thing wrong with your nose!

From a guy's point of view (this guy's), I've never seen woman look better after going from long hair to short hair... It might still look good, but not better..

this reminds me so much of a similar line of inquiry i was having with a really good pal, and i think he gave me the best advice. he told me that i needed to think about what kind of choices would make me feel the most confident and attractive because, "you'd look more attractive to most guys bald, but confident, than any style or change that leaves you feeling insecure and in need of validation. confidence is more attractive than any external option". while that's a pretty broad example, i think the principle is absolutely true for both genders, but even more true for women.

so, in that direction, i have to echo largely what seoulsearch said, which is to let your specifics guide your choices--and perhaps the most important question to ask is how much time and upkeep you are willing to do. some cuts are going to require you to spend time with some of those medieval torture devices to replicate and maintain it. what's the minimum length you need to put it back? how important is that? for me, that's my personal mason-dixon line. however, if you wear a ponytail every single day, maybe you would benefit from an update.

i'm not really going to say too much about what i think you should do because i think this is an issue that you can only answer, but you might want to do some research.

sometimes you just need educated opinions of what decisions will effect what you're hoping for. there are choices that are high and low maintenance and some that will give you a lot of bang for your buck. what's also cool is that they have so many options available as things have advanced so much and continue to do so in that industry.

i'd really encourage you to find a salon that had good stylists that get regular training (ask because good ones do) and when you see someone whose hair you like, approach them, and find out who/where they get their hair done. : ) that's always how i find a good one. most stylists will make an appointment just for you to do consult to talk about what you're hoping to accomplish. they can put their hands in your hair and give you good recommendations, then you make an appointment, so nothing is happening too hastily.

one thing i find a little fascinating is how some women like to keep things as similar as possible and resist change and fight to stay in their comfort zone, but after awhile we almost become blind to the info that we are constantly taking in. of course, some of us are constantly wanting some form of personal migration or reinvention and our hair and makeup becomes the surrogate of all that need for change--but those girls are kind of erasing aspects of their identity by constantly changing things.

i think something in the middle is probably better. i personally like having some aesthetic constants in my life and have things that are somewhat signature for me. actually, i like that a lot. i think you can update without sacrificing what feels like "angie". if you're really interested in some specific suggestions, you know you can always message me.

as long as you're not running around town in pigtails and knee socks, i think you're good. i used to wear pigtails a lot when i'd go work out (for obvious reasons) and one day a guy friend offered me a whole new perspective on that styling choice, effectively ruining it for me. but that's more my issue. ; p

Grace your hair looks great long. Miri is right. A good way to change your long hair is to layer it. My hair is layered. I started layering it out of necessity. It was too thick so to lighten up the weight of it I layered it. The cool thing about layered hair is it creates more volume and texture. I say keep it long! It doesn't age you at all.

laura! i agree with angie, your nose is fine and suits your face well. but i know how it feels, i used to hate my nose too. i used to roll my eyes when i used to hear folks say how our imperfections/quirks can be the attractive things that are appreciated.

but you know, it really is so true--we just judge ourselves so harshly. you're a pretty girl with a fine nose. : )

Grace, pick the one that makes you look confident and secure in yourself. You know it best, and as friends, we will stand by no matter what. Even if we may occasionally snicker behind your back

That being said, what is all this hullabaloo over noses?

I have a few simple rules with my hair.

I don't wash it myself, I have it washed professionally at a salon every week not with processed synthetic hair products from a grocery store but the best the team has.

I never colour it, it's all my natural brunette colour.

I always let it dry naturally because all that heat and any products can damage it severely.

I get my hair trimmed about every 12 weeks. To me there's nothing worse than seeing girls who have stringy, split end, thinned out dead hair that is totally unhealthy. I say to my stylist 'anything that shouldn't be there, chop off'. There's a distinction between having genuinely long hair and claiming you do but all you have is coloured, ironed, chemically destroyed stringy dead hair hanging off of you.

That's what keeps me happiest and at my hair at its most healthiest.
I don't blow dry mine to either.

I don't think long hair ages you at all Grace. I do understand wanting change. My hair isn't super short, it just does what it does. Wavy, curly, crazy.

Straight long hair suits you really well Grace. :) And I <3 the short curls Fenner (I wish the shape of my face suited it)

---

I use olive oil on my hair (conditioner and hair serum because my natural hair can get too frizzy) and I do hair spa twice a week (olive oil hair spa). I used to use coconut milk (natural, overnight) for my hair when I was younger but imagine the inconvenience lol.

My hair is very thick and very black. But black is too strong a colour that doesn't match my skin tone :/ So, I had my hair coloured gold for the first time last June but, it turned out dark brown.

I've never had long hair as in waist length. I always had it cut up to shoulder because it gets heavy and it takes some time to wash (not to mention the excessive use of conditioner and hair serum xD). But, I decided this year that I will NOT have it trimmed just to satisfy my curiosity on what my head would look like with really long hair.

I tried on wigs to see which hairstyle works for me (cause I don't do perm and blow dry, also for the fun of it without the damage). Here's a few of them (yes I kept the pictures to compare lol):

I used wigs for both images below. I thought blonde-ish matched my skin tone better than the other.

My real hair before I grew and coloured it.

This is my current (just took this like 2 seconds ago. Okay maybe 10) see it's now brown-ish. Compared to my dark hair above. And I'm kind of satisfied with it right now. Just waiting for it to grow longer.

Gary, as I mentioned not long ago, I've already sported this hairstyle compliments of my mother.

Fenner, your hair suits you too! Waves are so pretty.

I will admit to some thread-posting regret this morning when I remembered what I had done in the darkness of night at my computer. Ha. Thanks for all being kind and helping a gal out. :) ;)

I like the long hair GLR! Looks great! If it was a whole lot longer and in a pony tail with a cap on and if you were blond, I'd say it would start looking like you're a horse trainer. As it is though (aside from the sideburns thing you and your mom had going) you don't masculine at all. At ALL . Quite lovely.

Actually I gotta say, every picture I've seen on this thread - one and all are quite lovely and the hair suits each very well. Glad to see too, Grace, that you still have your fishing pole.

You know, wigs are probably a good way to see what you'd look like with X style like AZ said. Abigail is pulling off every one of those looks, but it just seems like a good way to see what you'd look like. Don't they let you try stuff on at a wig store? They don't me, but ... And another good thing - Dolly Parton was asked once how long it takes to fix her hair and she said "I don't know, I'm never there".
