Celebrating Halloween, is it wrong or not a big deal?

Does this mean the halloween party is cancelled??? What am I supposed to do with a 5x Large size power ranger costume??

I don't need a costume for Halloween Blain is scary enough a costume combined with Blain would make even the satanists run away ;b
 
God looks at what is in a persons heart. How many are actually worshiping Pagan Gods when they go trick or treating?
Same goes for Easter and Christmas and using a Calendar with the names of the days and Months on it. If you like Astronomy what do you call the Planets in the Solar System?

You're comparing the insignificance of Halloween with the sanctity of Christmas and Easter? Say it ain't so.

In my church the youth are encouraged to take an active part. The teens have their own
youth services and worship team, but every so often they take the entire main
Sunday service. They also occasionally do the prayer ministry at the front of church after
services. Imagine that 13-18 year old praying for other people! :)

in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
 
Before I was saved, I was a professional musician. The top days in the year to perform were New Year's and Halloween. Halloween was simply demonic. Things got more and more bizarre as the evening progressed. Sure the costumes were part of the issue, but it seemed like people's inhibitions were more released. Partly that meant people getting away with stuff because they were hidden behind a costume and often a mask! But people got more drunk- hence club owners just loved it, especially when Halloween fell on a weekend. I grew to hate it!

The first year or two after I was saved, I gave out candy, and didn't think much about it! But then I realized how creepy it was, and then stopped. Eventually we compromised by buying our kids too much candy, and some years going to some kind of harvest festival. Then hubby decided it was legalistic and not neighbourly to give not out candy. I told him he had to do it. That lasted about a year, then I was supposed to do it. We only had a few kids in the neighbourhood, and they all grew up, and then we were done!

When we moved to BC, it was similar to our old neighbourhood, and we got no one on our door. But my DIL made cute costumes for our grandkids, she wanted me to do the rounds with her in her area, 6 blocks from our house, where the homes are close together. Well, it was so creepy! People spent so much time and money decorating their homes to be scary and evil. When I was young, and when my kids were young, it was all about handing out candy. Now it is about glorifying evil.

I am really against Halloween, in terms of what a pagan day it is. Days that celebrate witches, ghosts, and other evil should not be celebrated by Christians.

I was with AG Pentecostal church, as well, for like 8 years. Before that, I was with Jehovah's witness for 2 years. Our exposure and experience with these churches certainly helps (regardless of how scripturally wrong they appear to be) make it easier for us to avoid the bad stuff. So, I don't do halloween either.
 
We don't do anything on Halloween. I will rather put some meat on the barbeque and take my son out to do something nice than waste my money on pumpkins and all that jazz.

The best thing about Easter and Halloween is a week after the event you get cheap chocolates and sweets YEAHHH :rolleyes:

The word 'Halloween' comes from 'All Hallowed's Eve', I think it is, the evening before All Saints' Day. But it falls on the night of an old Druid celebration. The Druid religion was a pagan religion that had great influence before Christianity entered Britain. A number of the customs, came from pagan customs, like carving a face on vegetables, which was supposed to scare away spirits. These pagans believed that ghosts roamed around on those nights. So going around begging for food on that night, the obsession with ghosts and spirit beings, etc., on that night have to do with the pagan holiday.

I don't celebrate Halloween. I don't want to dress my kids up like ghosts or whatever on that day. I wish our forbearers had done a better job at stamping out pagan practices and references from our culture, like the names of months and days of the week and holidays like this.

In the Old Testament, we can see that the appeal of pagan holidays and customs influenced Israel. Apparently, some Israelites were weeping for Tamuz. Israel came under judgment when some Midianites and Moabite women invited them over for barbecue and sex. This must have had a great appeal. It could have happened at some holiday, some Baal of Peor day. We don't know. But the meat offered to Baal probably tasted good. And I'm sure a lot of those men enjoyed the fornication. But lots of Israelites died over it.

So how should we respond to Halloween? There are those who say it doesn't matter, since a lot of people don't associate the things they do with the old pagan practices and religious observances they grew out of. Then there is the approach that we can use it for outreach, don't encourage dressing up like monsters, but give out candy at church and put on a play about Jesus while the kids come in in their costumes, or whatever. We could also satisfy the children's desire to dress up by celebrating Reformation Day (Oct. 31, 1517 when Luther nailed the 95 theses on the church door at Whittenburg) or all saints day. So all the girls get to dress up like one of a dozen or so Biblical and historical figures. Boys can put on fake tent pegs that look like they go through their skulls and be Sisera, or wear a tunic and carry a stuffed lion and pretend to be Samson. Or they could dress like a monk or knight (Sir George) and be Martin Luther. This would be more fun for the boys and most kids would wear bathrobes and towels.

We could also just not dress up as a kind of protest, almost, or just ignore the holiday. Let the kids whine about not getting candy if they must. We could dress up for Purim like the Jews do, and wear costumes to a puppet show about Esther and Haman.

I don't know the perfect solution. Conscience has a lot to do it. We don't celebrate Halloween. I'm not against outreach. I've taken my kids to church events where they give out candy.

Its the same in the UK, people have stated decorating their houses for Halloween now.
Its getting bigger than Christmas now with pubs and restaurants having Halloween themed evenings.
Adults dressing up as well as children and the shops taking advantage of the extra cash.

There is something really wrong when Christmas starts to be called happy holidays because
people don't believe in God, yet no one blinks an eyelid at celebrating Halloween.

The whole zombie thing is taking off with zombie chasing days organised, not to mention ghost
tours and witch hunts around Halloween.


There is a beautiful old Roman walled city called York not too far from me, complete with cobbled
streets, a cathadral, a Roman fort, lots of quaint little streets and alley ways, it's like stepping back in time.
Its a pleasure to walk around most of the year, there are various museums and there
has been lots of finds during archeological digs, but it because of its history, around this
time of year there are ghost walks, tours of so called spooky legends, tales of hangings etc.

It turns a beautiful old city into a creepy awful place for a couple of weeks of utter darkness.
