I had to make an urgent comfort food run today :( I got an In-n-Out burger and a bag of Munchos light and airy potato chips.

What is my comfort food?

Yes.

Mashed potatoes, a piece of celery, a fish sandwich, a slice of pie, whatever. Anything except boiled okra.

Definitely Chinese food. It always makes me happy : p

(Of course Im talking about the junk that you find at Chinese buffets : p)

I also really like pizza, but I have it often, so I dont really feel that I should call it comfort food : p Its more like a weekly meal : p

Nope, just straight out of the box.
The BOX?

I'm thinking of my delicious passed down from generation to generation homemade mac n cheese and face palming at this. ;)

My mama's homemade mashed potatoes and homemade gravy. I can make it. It's delicious when I do but my mama knows how to get the gravy perfect. She's just a homemade southern comfort food queen.

Almost everything we eat is "from scratch." We start the cooking by "scratching" the top of the box to get it open.

I think I've been laboring under the misconception that comfort food has to be what you grew up on and it was a simpler time in life so when you feel stressed or worn out or sad, the things that take you back home when life felt smaller and safer are your comfort foods...but maybe it isn't the same for everyone.

My comfort foods are:
Grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup
Fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy and coleslaw or potato salad (that was most Sundays) :)
swiss steak with mashed potatoes and green beans
meatloaf with mashed potatoes and lima beans
buckwheat cakes with eggs
pork and beans with cornbread
I guess those are the best ones. They're my go-to's when things get too crazy.

For REAL! No powder packet or squeeze pouch of "cheese" is going to replace the real thing.

Because it is...

and if you ate it everyday you might, literally, die. There is enough butter and cheese in that sucker to make your arteries quake with fear.

Some type of pasta dish, but preferably ravioli or lasagna. I guess I am a true Italian, haha
