If you’re looking for a great deal, you can find it at your local dollar store. A recent national dollar-store report conducted by Campaign for Healthier Solutions and HealthyStuff.org found that many products sold at the four major discount retailers (Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Family Dollar, and 99 Cents Only) sold products that could pose potential health risks. The study found that harmful vinyl plastic (also called polyvinyl chloride plastic, PVC, or vinyl) and toxic phthalates were discovered in many discount store products. ...

Since I often to to Dollar General and Dollar Tree.......had to read all of this myself.

Mostly agree.......with one exception, well, a partial exception. The Report says not to buy FOOD there, but, in my opinion, that should only apply to fresh food stuffs, or meats that are not frozen.

The Dollar General I go to has many of the same Brand Names as does Walmart on can foods, and on snacks 'n' such.

One hint........if folks have a Dollar Tree nearby...........(I don't buy fresh foods/meats there) is that the Dollar Tree has frozen meats/veggies. The frozen Veggies are pretty good, and they are not full of cut up stalks.......

They have two meats that I always buy. Individually packaged Pork Sirloin Cuts and Thin Cut Rib Eye Steaks. Each is just one dollar. The Chops are very good, and I purchase 4 or 5 at a time to put in my freezer. The Rib Eyes are perfect for making Steak Sandwiches.........thin cut, and tender.

I use Lemon Pepper on the Chops, with a little butter, when I cook them......can make a sandwich, or have them with Veggies as a dinner.

The Rib Eye I cook over medium heat with Black Pepper and some Wishyoursisterwashere Sauce. I get those Hoagie buns from the Store........add some Mayo 'n' Mustard, slice of Cheese, Lettuce and Tomato slices......and Mmmmmmm

Anyway............I would not recommend buying fresh/not frozen foods/meats at a Dollar Store, but these two are surely an exception that I enjoy very much. I can purchase seven days worth of meat for dinners for just SEVEN BUCKS.

I shop at Dollar Tree every week. They have an awesome frozen food section, and I pay usually about $50, compared to previously spending $300-400 at Price Chopper alone.. Why pay 10x more for the same stuff at the grocery store when you can get it all at the dollar store for a buck each? :)

Unfortunately, I couldn't read the entire article. Yahoo is infested with viruses and spam bots. So between my pop-up blocker, privacy settings & firewall protections, my pc keeps freezing up most Yahoo articles. :p

For women unless it's a known name brand I've read not to buy feminine hygiene products at Dollar Tree. I don't want to be rude but if I was a man I'd probably not buy dollar tree condoms.

Yeah it's really sad. I watched the show a couple of times and wasn't really interested. Treading in the world of reality tv is really a bad idea, in my opinion.

First of all, you'll find a lot of these things at the big chains as well as the little ones. A few years ago I was shopping in Walmart & picked up a yellow 3-way power adapter & read a small sticker on it saying pregnant women shouldn't handle it because it contained lead. A PLASTIC electric plug with lead in it..... now we know how China gets rid of its industrial by-products.

Also, this could be a false news smear campaign 'cause this would make nat'l news if it were true.

More than likely the lead content was in the electrical solder which obviously is not exposed however the warning still has to be there.

Guess what....PVC (the first thing mentioned in the article) is what most home's water pipes are made of unless its a very old home and its been used for decades.. because its safe.

(therefore I didn't waste my time reading the rest of the article...)
