When Congress authorized a day of fasting in 1778, Washington told his soldiers:
"The Honorable Congress having thought proper to recommend to The United States of America to set apart Wednesday the 22nd. instant to be observed as a day of Fasting, Humiliation and Prayer, that at one time and with one voice the righteous dispensations of Providence may be acknowledged and His Goodness and Mercy toward us and our Arms supplicated and implored; The General directs that this day also shall be religiously observed in the Army, that no work be done thereon and that the Chaplains prepare discourses suitable to the Occasion." {wiki}
No Desit would speak of God's goodness and mercy since they have no personal knowledge of Him.

Wow. You're basically saying, "look, this guy thinks so too" (and probably, "this guy thought so first"). I mean, really, this blog even has a link to itself in the article as a source. So the writer is even like, "this is right because I said so somewhere else too". Oh my. *sigh*
Where are your primary sources? I want to see how you came to some conclusions yourself, not spat out someone else's...
And I think someone may have asked but even if so, it does bear repeating: why are you, as a Christian, repeating what an atheist secular humanist blog article is saying as if it's truth? You of all people should know that Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6), and anything that rejects that is not speaking in truth. This article does nothing but reject Christianity.
