Felt like what I had just said was completely negated, sorry. Where is your faith? Overly sensitive.
Funny that you accuse others of oversensitivity when you got all butt hurt and messaged me with a series of accusations because your statement wasn't made clear and I asked for clarification.

By the way, this site is free. How much more appreciation is needed?

And lastly this is not a new suggestion. You're just parroting what's been said already.

Perhaps now you have a legitimate reason to be butt hurt without being what you accuse others of, being overly sensitive.

if you don't have the discernment that you are already Loved, please tell what is the point
of your post?
I really appreciate that, I do.

I am talking about expressing yourself better in our post and also make you meaning to get across and not misconstrued.

I mean, come on, their is no dancing chimpanzee or no cowboy shooting from the hips. lol

I have one more thing to say about we discussed. It is no thanks in just being allowed to be here, but it a privilege to them that we choose CC, don't let them convince you otherwise.

There is no difference between the model member and one who has to be moderated all the time. The ones that are self-moderated has no advantage and he has no thanks.

They keep us like starving and whipped Pups.

So long if I get my head chopped.

lol! It a new-fangled way of saying smiley.

If anyone ask me what is a smiley..... I'll..... ;)
Do we really need to invent new words?

I think the little smiley face things are silly.

I can't believe you ask that. It is obvious, more emojis, like any other message board. It is not too much to give members in thanks for being members.
I don't even care if there are more. I'd be happy if they looked like what they are.

 <-- This looks like someone is embarrassed. Nope. It's supposed to be shocked/surprised.

;) <-- This is supposed to be Winkie. Looks just like Big Grin with mascara. :D

And what's wrong with angelic emoticon? o:) It means innocent, when we know we're not innocent. Aren't we, as Christians, supposed to be aware that we're not innocent?

Most communication is done with body language. There is no body language on the Internet, thus emoticons and then emojis came quickly. I'd go with shorthand, but shorthand has changed. Very few even know what j/k, BG, BEG, etc. means anymore.

I keep saying I'm still in the 20th century. It's pretty bad when it's 2016 and I'm even closer to today than a message board. o:)

And (o:3 (Does anyone remember what that one is? lol)

Emoticons are what developed at the beginning of the Internet to replace body language. They were created by using different keys on the board. You know the winking one, (named Winkie when it became common), and Smiley. There is also :*( which means someone is crying. And quite a few others using the typical keyboard.

Later on they developed into many more not created by the keyboard. Those are call emojis. Miri showed some below.

It's simply a way to show your body language when you write something. It's truly different to say "You jerk" online than it is face-to-face. In that example, wouldn't you immediately assume someone is insulting you? And yet, if it's a friend in real life, and the person laughs and punches you lightly, you know they're kidding. Or if you show a bunch of fuzzy photos and asks why you can't take a good picture, if someone says "you jerk" you know what they're saying by the body language in real life because of the body language. Online? Still sounds like an opinion of your pictures rather than saying the same thing with a big grin emoticon.

They just make it much easier to communicate.

Pardon me for responding with what I thought was a helpful suggestion. :/ Being that all you need to do is download some smilies from different sites and use them on here. That's what myself and several others here do.. :) Robo added new smilies in the chat rooms, hopefully he'll do the same for the forums..
Yeah but that's sort of like having to constantly deal with a keyboard with a broken G, K, and W. It's doable, but it's easier not doing it.

Or, now, that every time I respond to a post with quotes now, I have to readjust size after the first word oritlookslikethis.

Not listening to users and customers tends to make less people want to stay.

This site isn't a ministry. It's a business.

Much is required of us, but nothing given in return and because of it has lost some that is the epitome of a good member. We are not appreciated.

The Administration and Moderation team on Christian Chat spend countless volunteered hours every week providing a place for you to hang out and post and this is how you feel about it? Not gratitude, but ,"you owe me"?

You know, it isn't often that I read a series of posts from a user and think to myself, "what an entitled, self-important, ungrateful, spoiled brat."

It IS TRUE that body communication is a LARGE part of human communication.
It is such an important fact that if I'm using SARCASM, I often add in a little smiley.
It's so people who didn't get the sarcasm, will "get it".

It works the same if you're in a physical room with someone.
People who use sarcasm and don't smile, or roll their eyes, will often be misunderstood.
Many people don't use body language well in LIVE PERSONAL communication.

However, we really do have some cultural issues when people are using pictures MORE than language.
We already have numerous internet platforms where there is NO SPEECH, or VERY LITTLE SPEECH.
When people are not using, and practicing, human language... they will inadvertently fail to learn, or improve, in those skills.

Losing your skill in whatever you don't practice... I think that's a well understood concept in many areas of life.

What to do?
We don't need text police.
We don't need emoji police.
We don't need emoji haters.
We just need... I don't know... maybe a greater cultural push to appreciate, and use, actual language... before we all devolve into a lower life form.
: )

Joking aside, I often carry on brief correspondence with people I'm hiring, or outsourcing to.
If the individual can't write without using emojis or text abbreviations... they simply don't get the job.

It's the same as going to an interview wearing flip-flops and cuttoffs... it just doesn't seem mature or professional.

I love to wear flip-flops... but I don't wear them to an interview.

And if someone hadn't explained that to me when I was younger...
I wouldn't have known it was a problem.

:)

"Christian Chat."

Not "Christian Job Interview."
Not "Christian Cover Letters and Resumes." (And, sorry if it offends you that I'm not going through what is needed to get the accent mark in that word.)
Not "Christian work email."
Not "Christian Articles."
Not "Christian Formal Debates."

I am a writer. I don't use emojis or emoticons when I write. But this isn't formal writing. It's people talking to each other online. "Chat."

I was also a business owner and marketing person. You really don't want to know what I'm thinking about when it comes to how CC presents itself as a business. (Sadly, if management did listen it could employ people. If it paid attention to the Suggestions Forum, it would be more advanced. True. Most of the suggestions are pretty silly, but the assumption is no need to listen to any of them, and thankfully there are always other users who feel free to put down any suggestion -- anywhere now -- so management can feel free to ignore all together.)

If one small request to update/fix emoticons offends Friends-of-Rob, that is just the tip of the iceberg on why this isn't a successful business.

Flipflops? Really? It has nothing to do with this site. This site projects many things, but mature or professional? LOL

(When users who've been around a while start feeling free to speak up, it's clear it no longer matters to us what we're being censored about now. We do get there is heavy censorship on this site, and it has little to do with God or the Bible. So we'll leave the ones who do "devour" to the site, and leave... or be removed as a business decision.)

I completely agree that Christian Chat has nothing to do with job interviews, or formal communication.

Totally agree.

I also want everyone to have freedom of expression... emojis or whatever.

I was just commenting that the culture, in a broader sense, seems to be moving away from anything that requires use of our brains.
: )

One of the EXPRESSIONS of this "moving away" is the greater and greater reliance on PICTURES instead of LANGUAGE.

I love pictures.
I enjoy pictures.
Pictures are wonderful.
But, if we have new generations developing which are expressing themselves PRIMARILY in pictures, to the EXCLUSION of language ... then we will also collectively reap the consequences of this.

If I spend 20 hours a week sending people PICTURES, instead of 20 hours a week actually SPEAKING... then my language skills will inexorably, and predictably, decline.

Conclusion:
- People should have the freedom of choice to communicate how they please.
- But, we already have a culture where logic and critical thinking are almost non-existent.
- Critical thinking skills are seldom taught, and seldom encouraged.
- This current trend AWAY from language (where critical thinking resides) will almost certainly make this worse.
* Finally, it isn't a matter of ADDING pictures to conversation; it is a matter of actually REPLACING conversation with pictures... to the point where the conversation has disappeared.
