Have you ever experimented with cooking and recipes? If yes, what is the strangest experiment? Name the best outcomes and the worst outcomes.

Well um in my fridge there's the last of something that combined butternut squash, peanut butter, cinnamon, and ginger. It's ok but I'm probably not going to intentionally make that again.

Hmm, I don't experiment much, but I MUST have a shelffull of spices :D

- Someone at work today brought chocolate cake. It had cream in the middle and on top, with cocoa or chocolate in it.
and also in the middle was ... wait for it .... bits of pineapple!
Sounds weird, I know, but it was soooooo yummy

Not really. But last year, I took Thxgiving leftovers... turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, and sweet potatoes I think... and I put all of that on bread and toasted it in the oven for a Thxgiving sandwich. It was good.

I made something this week for my company's potluck. I found the recipe in a holiday crock pot cookbook. It was an artichoke thing with spinach and cheese. It was horrid.

I really hadn't cooked much when I got married. My husband at that time was a vegetarian, so I converted. I had a hard time coming up with meals because I was raised on eating meat, and loved sweet and sour chicken. I dipped whole mushrooms in batter and fried them, then made up a sweet and sour sauce with the peppers and pineapple. He thought that was hilarious but enjoyed it.

The latest experiment is an attempt at low carb chili, currently in the crock pot. Very few beans, and some butternut squash to help bulk it out ( my roommate overseas would put butternut squash in her spaghetti sauce so I think it might do well here too, and I needed to use the squash). Will let you know how it turns out.

I suddenly remembered something.

I was cooking with a friend. We started off with some salmon fillets and potatoes.
We boiled the potatoes and made mash, adding salt, pepper and herbs
We then put the mash and the fish in tin foil in the oven, and added white wine to it.
Left it in until the fish was done. - It tasted great!

I've also "boiled" cod in white wine (in a tray in the oven) along with vegetables. That was nice as well.

Chili turned out good, though a bit spicier than I would have liked (and I had to add some chia seeds to thicken it up a bit).

Too many to name, but will try to recall one or two to tell about some time.

Not really strangest, but here: Leche flan is a very common dessert here, often with sev. eggyolks and milk mixed and steamed. i learned some cake recipes can now be done in the rice cooker, and thought to try the flan as well. As i dont like having so many egg whites left unused until there is another need for them, i put in more whites w/ the mixture as some recipes do allow whites. Trouble is cooking on the rice cooker isnt slow fire, and as i also often do, lessening the sugar changes the texture/consistency of the baked/steamed food. So the flan is cooked, but not with the velvety smoothness of the real thing... someone takes a taste, but mostly i had to finish it coz it just looks and is different.

I use spaghetti sauce in chili. Many think this is weird and some are horrified at the thought... but they always eat up all my chili when I bring it to a church dinner.

Ever have pizza eggs? Good way to use leftover pizza. Scrape the toppings and cheese off a slice of pizza into a sauce pan, add eggs and cook scrambled. Eat the crust with butter while the eggs are cooking. It comes out exactly like cheese and eggs, only a lot better.

Something I occasionally like to do is a scrambled tuna sandwich. It's just like a regular tuna sandwich, except the bread is mixed in with the tuna. It is worth noting that I use homemade sourdough bread - this probably wouldn't work with spongy, gummy store loaf bread.

RECIPE: An experiment that turned out so good you want to remember how you did it so you can do it again.

BAD RECIPE: An experiment somebody else thought was good enough to write down, but you didn't care that much for it.

IDIOT WHO HAS NO TASTE: The person who took your good recipe and changed it into a bad recipe, because he thinks it makes it a good recipe. Can be highly subjective, as the other person probably also thinks you are an Idiot Who Has No Taste.

Maybe the pretzel biscuits would taste better with mustard.
they were pretty much over salted inedible bread rocks.. no amount of mustard could fix them. I gave one to my sister, and she laughed for 10 minutes straight lol

Once I ended up with Pepsi-crusted-lamb-chops. I don't remember how I made them, only that they were fabulous.

Another time I learned not to add apples or raisins to a green smoothie- yuck. (Smoothie- spinach, banana, water or milk, ice).

It happens. I recall one guy talking about bread his wife made. "We never got to try them because the loaves fell through the drain board. We used a couple of them as anchors for my homemade pontoon boat."
