Every once in a while, your friends of family probably compare your personality or looks to well-known characters, pop-culture icons, historical people etc. you would rather not be compared with.

Not necessarily insulting comparisons, but ones that are true enough to shake your head and say "It's true! Why me?"

What are they?

I'll share mine if this thread gets another respondent, hahahaha.

Bruuuce!

That's pretty flattering, I'd say. Telly Savalas was cool too. <3 Kojak.

My favorite product of Telly though is his daughter. Good genetics there.

I was compared to Nicole Kidman once. I was awfully flattered. Then I was informed that the reason why was that I had the same strict look on my face, not a striking resemblance:p...besides...she's way taller than me lol.

Well look at it this way, Margaret Thatcher also had a stern expression on her face and it looks like Angela Merkel looks that way too. I'd rather look at a stern (even annoyed) Nicole Kidman.

At our local amateur theatre once, I was volunteering my Saturday evening as an usher. A lady walked up to me and said, "You know what? You look a lot like the president." At first I didn't know what to make of this, partly because she sounded American, so I didn't know which president? So I asked her, "Which one?" She said, "Why Obama of course."

I was somewhat relieved. Not because I support his policies or because of his African roots, but because he looks a darn lot better than my own president who is a frail, incredibly stubborn 92 year old nonagenarian who is immensely unpopular over here.

I still don't know what to make of her comment. Was it a compliment? What if she was a Republican? Would it still a compliment? The thing is i don't see the resemblance but a number of people have said the same thing and they were usually foreigners.

Someone said I look like Catherine-zeta Jones, but she was obviously flattering me. When I was in Cambodia, the sales lady at the market spoke to me in Cambodian. Some Cambodians look Chinese, so maybe I look Chinese.

I'm sure this has happened to me, but I can't think of anything. The one thing I CAN think about is when the Bible talks about Christians as sheep. Believe me, that highlights how amazing it is the the LORD bears with us, but it is NOT meant as a complement! :D

Several people say I looked like John Beck back in his Rollerball days. (But that was many years ago.)

Many people have told me that I have a "dead pan delivery" like Keanu Reeves. Happy, sad, joking, serious...it all comes out the same for me.

I don't know that anyone has ever told me I look like somebody famous, but there has been a few times I've been mistaken for somebody else, and it turns out that there are a few dopplegangers of me running around in the world.

I was in a restaurant with a friend once, many years ago, and the waitress kept turning around and looking at me peculiarly.

"Oh my (goodness)," she finally said. "I thought you were Margaret Cho!!!"

Um.

No offense to Ms. Cho.

But, no.

Just, no.

(I also had a teacher who said I looked like Connie Chung, but that's because when I was a kid, Ms. Chung was about the only prominent Asian person whom white people in my small town ever saw, and that, of course, was only on television.)

Once in a while I get Belinda Carlisle. You can't see in my profile pic, but I have dimples, so I think thats why.

For those of you who have no idea who she is, she had some pop music in the 80s. Not my taste, however I did find some cool lyrics from one of her hit songs that kinda fit with my relationship with God:

When I feel alone, I reach for you
And you bring me home
When I'm lost at sea I hear your voice
And it carries me

In this world we're just beginning
To understand the miracle of living
Baby, I was afraid before
But I'm not afraid anymore

...something about how white people think all Asians look exactly the same and how most white folk can't tell Japanese from Chinese, from Korean, from Southeast Asian

It's funny how everybody went the route of looks.

When it comes to that, the least flattering I've ever gotten was probably "Dude, you look like that guy from A Beautiful Mind." Was it because I look like Russell Crowe or because I somehow look schizophrenic? I don't think I look a thing like Russell Crowe.

Personality wise, a consistent and rather unflattering comparison I get is to the character Q from Star Trek TNG, DS9, and Voyager. I can think of a few good qualities of his, but he's mostly an antagonistic jerk.

Come to think of it, I also get House a lot. It's a wonder I have friends and find clients.
