This is something I've always been curious about. Why does Genesis one use the word God (Elohim) and man was made after beast, Genesis two uses Lord God (Yahuah Elohim) and man was alone, then he made beast.

Is it possible that God, refers to the Father and Lord, refers to the Son?

And is it possible that Genesis one was creating the Spiritual and two was the flesh?*

The sons of God came in onto the daughters of men.* Sons of God were created too, right?

This is just something I think about every year when I start reading the bible from the beginning.* ☺

This is called a Majestic Plural if I remember correctly---a hint a the Trinity

The sons of God, if you look into it was actually angels left heaven and impregnated women here.. Peter talks about it in his letter.. can be found in any old study of documents pertaining to Genesis

It also seems that Genesis 1 was spoken into creation and 2 was physically formed.

i read the second account of creation as simply a synopsis of what had just been given in chapter 1.

this is likely to have originated as an oral account passed down through generations, and the format of the first chapter separated into days may be the way that it is to facilitate memorizing and repeating it, like a song. there's even a refrain, "
and there was morning and there was evening." so that Moses, when he wrote the account, gave an oral rendition, and then summarized it, and then went on with telling us about Adam and Eve.

as to why there is a summary without as much structure repeated after the account given in a very structured way, it may be a nuance of Jewish writing/storytelling/teaching style - something i'm way to ignorant of to talk intelligently about, but it seems like i remember once years ago having it pointed out to me that there are similar repetitions of information in other parts of the scripture too, and that repetition is a common general characteristic in their literature.

anyway i'm personally not keen on the idea of two different creations being described here.

yes, as though, with merely a word, He creates.

hold onto that thought, and then consider that He is the very same One who says

"Come, drink freely of the water of life"

:) ♥

Would you know why God is sometimes used and Lord God or Lord is used in other places?

Would you know why God is sometimes used and Lord God or Lord is used in other places?

not exactly.

someone who knows some Hebrew may chime in here, i hope.

i do know though that "
elohim" is a general noun meaning "god" - that it is a plural word according to Hebrew grammar, and sometimes used in plural as in "you shall have no other elohim before me" etc - but throughout scripture, even though the word is plural, it is used in a singular way when referring to Jah. for example in Genesis 1:1, 'Elohim created' has elohim a plural word, but the verb form of 'created' is singular. the plural in Hebrew may not always mean there are more than one of something, then - and it's also used for emphasis, as in importance or honor.

Greek has a similar grammatical form when it uses "
ton" in front of a noun, for example in Matthew 25:32, "as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats" is in Greek
"
ὁ ποιμὴν ἀφορίζει . . ." -- this is talking about any shepherd.
but then in Matthew 26:31, "
I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered" is
"
Πατάξω τὸν ποιμένα καὶ . . ." -- this is not talking about any shepherd. this is the shepherd ((the good one! :)))

so what's happening in the Hebrew may be the similar to this, i think -- that when it says Lord God, "elohim YHWH" it doesn't mean "the God of gods" -- which would imply that there are many gods, which we know isn't true. instead, this is meaning that God, Jah, YHWH, singular, is Elohim - which is technically plural, but should be understood that He is all 'gods' but that He is God, and no other so-called 'elohim' is. maybe just in order to establish that Jah is the creator, not a different 'elohim' but i think more likely resonating a deeper kind of theological truth, that He is the elohim.

here's a decent article about it that turned up when i did a quick search - most of what i put here is from what i remember from reading lots of different sites, very curious about this myself, in the past. ((in case i am being incomprehensible haha))

https://www.nas.org/articles/Ask_a_Scholar_What_Does_YHWH_Elohim_Mean

if you google, you can find a lot of sites talking about this subject. IMO the ones with a Jewish bent - even non-messianic - are good to read for this.

this is connected to Elijah's name, by the way

El - i - Jah

the Lord is God.

"
el" is a shortened form of "elohim" that you see in a lot of Hebrew names.

Jesus is the one in Genesis Who said "Let there be... ...and there was", everything after day one that is. Colossians says nothing was made without Jesus. And I think it's Hebrews 1:9 where God the Father calls Jesus "God." Both "Lord" and "God" can be used for both of them. But I do believe "the Angel (Messenger) of the Lord" in the Old Testament is preincarated Christ.

The sons of God are human- just like you and I. If you look at the geneology it says Seth the son of Adam, and Adam the son of God. We are not His natural sons (and daughters), He only has one of those- Jesus. We are the sons of God by adoption.

Yeah i too am not entirely sure... but i will give my opinion though i know it has no substantial weight to it....
My opinion is that God mentioned in Genesis 1 is purposefully done to convey God in an objective way... such as God creating the universe, life and reveals himself as powerful.
When moving to Genesis 2 my opinion is that now it purposefully conveys God in a more subjective way... such as God being ruler (hence Lord) and having authority over this universe, life and therefore reveals himself to be personal.

Lord God conveys (hes ruler, has authority, personal, knowable), God conveys (hes creative, powerful, holy)

Again not saying this is entirely true but something i have always thought fond of. :)

There are so many examples that teach us a little more of who we are and why we are that way in God's sight. When I began studying, I would ask the question; What does this mean to me
, and how does it affect my life? You are closer to your answer than you know. Let me suggest this one thought to consider.

Yes, flesh and spirit. One will perish to dust (we call this death). But the spirit part of you is the image of something you cannot see; that part of you is eternal and it is the key part of you that will either suffer eternal death tormented by fire or, eternal life. These two parts of you are spoken of in law and words of the prophets. I am avoiding turning this into points to argue. As soon as argument begins, learning ceases. I will not go there. Wear the shoes of Adam, and the shoes of Eve, and the shoes of God, and the shoes of Satan. Don't just read a story. One clue, yes, Eve was deceived but the New Testament disciples said Adam sinned with is eyes wide open. What kind of death did God talk about? Satan knew, and it is with this understanding that Satan deceived Eve.

Take your time and a great understanding will come to you.

just like Jah is a shortened form of Jehovah,

or more properly,

Yah, a shortened form of YHWH.

((the shortened name "
Yah" is used in the psalms many times, though you won't see it in KJV or ESV or NIV etc. but look up multiple translations of Psalm 68:4, for example, and how the literal Hebrew of that verse reads.))

((just in case i might appear disrespectful or rastifarian or something if i use the name Jah or Yah :)))

In Genesis 1:1 God is known as God.
In Genesis 2:4 God is known as LORD God.
In Genesis 17:4 God is known as Almighty God.
In Exodus 6:3 God is known as Jehovah, which that name was revealed at that time to represent physical deliverance, and then God went by compound names of Jehovah to represent the different physical blessings on Israel.
In Matthew 1:21 God is known as Jesus, which that name was revealed to represent spiritual deliverance, and spiritual blessings.

God's name represents His character towards people.

Jesus is God manifest in flesh, and also He is Lord and Savior, and the Bible says Jesus has no beginning according to Him being God(Micah 5:2),but a beginning according to His humanity.

2Co 11:31 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.

1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

There is one God,and one visible manifestation of God,and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

It does appear that when it deals with Jesus as Savior,it addresses Him as Lord, but Jesus is also God.

The Bible says that by the Word, who is God manifest in flesh, all things were created, and without Him was not anything created that He created, which means without the plan of God coming in the future in flesh,God would of not created anything He created, for it is only by God coming in flesh that makes creation successful.

There is one God of whom are all things, for God created all things, and one Lord Jesus Christ,by whom are all things, for it is because God came in the flesh that made creation successful, and without the plan of God coming in flesh,God would of not created anything He created. All creation hinges on Jesus Christ.Jesus as God created all things, and it is because of Jesus creation was successful.

Genesis 1 and 2 are the same, not one spiritual, and one fleshy, and Adam was never made spiritual, for the Spirit was not given to Adam when he was created,in the same way as Jesus who was conceived by the Spirit, for if Adam had the Spirit he would of not been able to fall, which the Bible says the first Adam was made a living soul, the second Adam was made a quickening spirit, and the first man was of the earth, earthy, the second man is the Lord of heaven.

There is controversy concerning the sons of God being fallen angels, which I believe it to be true, but not in a mating kind of way,but through possession of people, which the sons of God could of acted through the men to fornicate with the women, that caused the world to be continuously evil.

Jesus said that the end time will be like the days of Noah, which the devils will be cast to earth in the future, which becomes their holding cell, and they deceive all people that do not love God to rebel against God,which God will send them strong delusion because they did not have pleasure in the truth, and the world will be continuously evil like the days of Noah, with the exception of the saints that are on earth at that time, and then God will deliver them when the world scatters their power.

That is my take on it,but I keep reading and learning.

I noticed that the Lord God commanded , of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat but there is the swap in the name again. The serpent ask if God said, ye shall not eat. It seems like he is saying, God didn't command that, the Lord did. Maybe after prayer, I'll understand. ☺

Elohim are the Sons of God in Heaven. They are Spiritual beings and form Gods assembly there. There are different ranks of them Angels or Messengers being the lowest. They were created before the world existed. They carry out Gods will. The Book of Job speaks about them also Psalm 82 in respect to those who rebelled against God.

The devil twisted God's Word what God said----ye shall not eat of every tree----God only said one tree---he placed doubt in Eve's mind concerning God's Word----he does the same today with God's people...

Doesn't Christ in John 10:34 refer to Psalm 82 as though it should be interpreted as describing people?

On the other hand i've often wondered if our Lord isn't being a little sarcastic in that dialogue....

Still, yes, the word elohim may also refer to angelic beings in some places. It's not a simple thing to define. Thank you for bringing that up.

I am afraid this is not Biblical.

Elohim is the plural of God and reflects on the trinity in Genesis 1.

The angels did not assist God with the creation and the Bible tells us everything (heaven and earth) was created in seven days by YHWH Elohim, thus there is a good chance this included the angels.

Nothing/nobody can create except God, the Bible is clear that everything exist because of Him. He is the Creator of all.

The fact is that there was a time since the seven day creation until Adam and Eve sinned for the first time. The amount of time is not clear from the Bible.
