You have to get up to speed on flat-earther arguments. First of all, the largest flat-earther factions don't believe in anything that "orbits"...nor do they believe in gravity. So much for that.

But another insurmountable problem for 'flat earth' theorism: Commercial airliner travel times: Notice it would take airliners around 24 hours to fly from Sydney, Australia to Santiago, Chile all the way "across" a supposed "flat earth map". The problem is...airliners are making the journey in only 12.5 hours...because they fly underneath the globe, skirting past Antarctica. A journey of only 7000 miles compared to the 12,000 miles shown on a flat earth map.

See below, this flat earth proponent's flat earth map which would require a HUGE haul from Sydney to Santiago...then further down, see a commercial pilot's tracking map of an airliner's journey which skirts past the south pole...which should, if flat earth were correct, have the airliner crashing into the "firmament dome" - lol!

Oh, how well I remember a former member, whose wit and intelligence I so much enjoyed, even marvelling at the breadth of his knowledge for one so young, and then... yeah, he went off in this direction. It gave me pause to wonder, how important is it really? It seems we can all look at the very same things and come to very different conclusions. The BDF is proof enough of that :D For some reason it brings Matthew Arnold's poem, Dover Beach, to mind, particularly the last stanza...

Ah, love, let us be true to one another!
For the world, which seems to lie before us
Like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,

This photo was taken by the Mars reconnaissance orbiter in 2007

And this is a composite image from the same craft taken last year and recently released. Two images were exposed separately so the light of the earth shine wouldn't make the moon underexposed, and vice versa, and then put together.

Can you prove anything at all about the spherical earth to yourself - personally - with actual real-and-true experimental science that you yourself can actually do? Or, are you either incapable of or too lazy to think for yourself - and must "take the word of NASA and the governments of the world for it"...?

I've always found this discussion interesting and will be reading the thread.
I apologize if this has been asked already, but could you tell me Why NASA and our govt would need to make us believe the earth is round? What difference does it make?

Or, for some reason, New Mexico and Colorado hills are special And are able to block satelite waves....

Cell Phones out here are all acting liwke they are on towers, and we only get better service when a new tower goes up....

Cell phones ARE on towers.
The satellite beam is rec'd by a tower placed in different locations.

THEN the beam is sent to ndividual phones.

The main enemy of a flat earth is gravity you would have to take gravity away to have a flat earth and so far none of the flat earthers have even attempted to disprove my point of mass and gravity in the earlier page I don't know if it's because they didn't see or if it's because they can't disprove it but I have learned that it doesn't matter how much evidence you give a person if they are completely unwilling to receive it.

Since Earth is really a flat disc (saw a picture in this thread PROVING IT!) we're going to travel to the edge of Earth and take pictures. :p

Hope we don't fall off though. Just wondering why we're the only ones (we know of) that will be doing this and taking pictures as proof. :)

Wondering how trade ships leave Taiwan heading East and wind up on the West Coast of the U.S.? Do they fall off Earth and then float in outer space and then climb back onto Earth on the West side of the flat disc? :D

I never thought of that! There are probably ladders, block and tackle, and the works to help pull them back up on the West side. I think if we capture a photo that would settle the matter!

Perhaps if we dig straight down we could get out of the bottom of the flat disc and intercept the ships as they float across!
