Some people may say they were born a Christian but that is impossible, since we are born after the fashion of Adam, spiritually estranged from God, and in need of being born again via the Holy Spirit of God that we may be reconciled to Him through the righteous blood of His only begotten Son. Are you seeking? You may ask, why seek that which you do not believe to exist? That is something you need to decide for yourself. Great are the witnesses throughout history who attest to the existence of an all powerful, loving, just, and merciful God, Who created the universe and all there is, and gave life to man. If it seems an important enough endeavor on your part to discover the truth or falsity of those beliefs, you will set yourself to the task, for surely determining the meaning and purpose of your life is intrinsically tied up in whether or not there is a Creator, and if there is, what His purpose is. He desires a personal relationship with you.
According to Willie he doesnt.

I like a lot of what you said and I think that is what makes me different from an athiest. I am open to any and all ideas of a god or creator. Its a subject I spend a lot of time chatting about and reading about. I think all people should be seeeking.

Magenta I see what your saying. And from the comments I have read it seems like its not gods job to prove anything.
God has promised that if you diligently seek Him you will find Him, and Jesus says He will show Himself to those who who love Him and do as He commands. For a non believer, that may be as simple as loving others as yourself and seeking truth, and most people are sufficiently interested in the truth to at least make a start, even if worldly pursuits pull them away eventually. Jesus is the embodiment of Truth.

Willie is saying you need God more than He needs you, but that is not to say God does not love you as much as He loves anybody else. Jesus died to give life more abundant to you as much as He did for any other person.

What's the reason you do this good for the community?
We have a high population of homeless youth in our area. Its very sad. Some are thrown out of their homes for being gay or any number of reasons. We try to spend as much time and money as we can to help them.

That is loving Jesus, you know :) He said anything you do for a person in need, you do for Him. Even something as little as giving a cup of water. A cup of water could save someone's life, after all. Jesus is the Living Water. If we drink from Him we will want for nothing :)

Jesus invites all to answer His call to repent and believe.

I have to say this is a wild forum. I never expected some of the replies that I have been given. I would assume the strawman comments are saying I have no brain? I asked an honest question, maybe this is not the forum for these types of questions?
Hello chickenkiller, and welcome to CC!
The 'strawman' comment was not a criticism or attack on you; rather it was a criticism of your opening post (OP) which can be seen as a "strawman argument". That is a logical fallacy in which someone sets up a simplified, distorted version of the truth and then attacks it, usually demolishing it with ease. Please don't take it personally. :)

I appreciate that you aren't turning and sniping at people whose responses you may not like. It sounds like there is a genuine willingness to listen. Stick around, and feel free to ignore responses which don't make sense at first.

I think yours is a good question... others may see it differently. Bear in mind that many people come in here who have no interest in listening or learning, and it takes a while to sift the trolls from the honest inquirers. I sincerely hope you are of the latter group.

Hi CK: It seems to me that you want God to demonstrate to you personally that He is God. If at all possible just read John 3:16 and make up your mind to believe it. There is a lot of mystery about God, I had never read the bible and at almost 14 years of age I simply asked God what He wanted me to do(after a short sermon about Jesus saving us from hell). Much to my surprise after asking that, I was engulfed in a great love and a voice spoke directly to my mind saying, you must accept My Son as your Savior. Needless to say, I have never had trouble believing in the reality of God since then. If you hear no voice or feel nothing...HE IS STILL THERE. Just commit to God and ask Jesus to be your Savior and never doubt.

I have always lived my life that way. I'll do anything I can for another person, doesn't matter who they are. Having compassion is very important in this world. I always try to find reasons to help someone, I think some people look for excuses to not help. I would include our government. We have an amazing country filled with money, but somehow we have people who go to bed with no food or shelter.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I have read the bible many times and really do enjoy studying it. It just doesn't click for me. Im not sure why, but it doesn't. That's why my question was a real honest question.

I would encourage you to read the Gospel of John and Romans if you have time :) its a accurate unfolding of who we are and what our purpose is.

For those of us who no longer believe in god. I'm curious why god does not do more to convince skeptics that he does exist. A lot of us are comfortable with the idea of a god but after going to church we just cannot believe that god is real. I guess we could just say we do, but that doesn't seem right either.

Lets look at that. God gave us His Words in the Bible,He sent His Son to die for us. He made this incredible world that shows His handiwork,as intricate and detailed as it is beautiful. He has given us a hope of a better place in heaven. Then He gives the breath in our bodies to live each day and blesses us more than we deserve. Yet there more He should be doing? God has given us enough for us to make our free choice to serve Him or ourselves. It really is as simple as that.

My father, who is an evangelist, would say "you are 18 inches from being saved, you have the head knowledge but not the heart knowledge."

Many people have a false idea of who God is and what He wants us to do with our lives.

James says that true and pure religion is visiting orphans and widows, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting prisoners.

God is found in the hearts of His people and through the majesty of His creation.

He moves people from selfish desires to agape love.

He sent His son for the remission of sins.

He doesn't have to prove himself to you, but He does through the written words in the Bible and the moving of the Holy Spirit in the lives of His people.

What does that mean? Thanks
It means that you are reading the Bible only as an informative book, but its not connecting to your heart, its not transforming your life. To you, if I am correct, its a religious book like any other. Have you prayed and asked God to show himself to you?

Yeah almost every day from age 5 to age 32. I am 40 now. I enjoyed reading the bible, going to church on occasion. Again nothing ever really clicked for me. I feel like I have tried.

Ok well going to church doesn't make you a Christian anymore than going to Mc Donalds makes you a hamburger :) Have you had a personal relationship with God? Thats what Im trying to get at ;)
