I will have to say Pride and Prejudice...
Another I would put on this list is Contact. I know many might not see this as a love story, but it is. A man of the cloth falls for an atheistic scientist who is searching for intelligent life in the universe, and both are on a ceaseless quest for the truth, and desire to passionately disseminate it when found.
I like a lot of different movie styles and genres, and while rom com is amusing, and I have certainly seen a great deal of them over the years, not many even come to mind, because they are generally so easily forgotten. I actually don't very much care for many of them, though I can laugh heartily and be greatly entertained and enjoy them while watching them...
Something like 50 First Dates leaves a lasting impression
Groundhog Day was also memorable. I don't care at all for things like Pretty Woman. I really liked Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Shakespeare in Love. Who could forget Doctor Zhivago? I always liked Vertigo, also

I love that you included Vertigo on your list!
I would submit Ever After to be added to the list of great romance movies. Hmmm... perhaps I just really like movies with Drew Barrymore in them. I really do like her acting.
A movie that I love is Fox and the Hound. While it is not a romance movie, it is a movie about lasting love.
Other favourites of mine include:
Benny and Joon
Chocolat (Johnny Depp, chocolate and love - what could be better?)
Lars and the Real Girl
It Happened One Night
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Purple Rose of Cairo
And yes, I really do like the movie 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. I have a soft spot in my heart for musicals and this movie makes me laugh every single time I watch it.
Phantom of the Opera is epic. I have seen it live 3 times now. The ending always makes me cry.
I'm giving a shout out to the love between Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy (so enduring), the movie Warm Bodies (zombies in love is always funny), and Dirty Dancing because Patrick Swayze. Patrick. Swayze. Sigh.... What can I say, I was 11 when I first saw Dirty Dancing and spent the next year kissing a poster of Patrick Swayze and wishing I was Baby.
And I cannot believe that I forgot the best movie of all time until now.... The Princess Bride. As you wish will always mean I love you to me.
