Now I am wondering... for those who think pastors have to dress up to preach. What do you think of congregants not getting dressed up?

This is beginning to remind me of the church in 1970. Revival broke out. Stoners, prostitutes, the homeless, hippies, and the dregs of the earth were being saved right and left.

And then they entered church for the first time. And terrified the congregants. It really did change everything.

Is it any different today?

Buck naked huh? Reminds me of a news clip I read about a church of those who are nudists.

No thanks.
Um... I know the Bible says we are clothed in righteousness, but... When appearing in public, a few more layers would also be nice. :D

This is one time when I would hope believers would choose to surround themselves in SOLID (aka, completely OPAQUE) faith... vs. one that is transparent!

Utah, we are getting older! And sometimes, our perspective changes a bit?

I was quite a wild hippie in my teens and early twenties before I got saved. Strangely, that meant high buttoned shirts and full length skirts. I was thin, and could pull it off. Even when I played in bars and pubs and for dances, I couldn't have been more modest.

When I got saved, my husband insisted I dress up like a 1950's housewife for a few years. Then, I stopped, and went back to wearing more comfortable clothing. But I figured if I could dress up to play in bars, I certainly needed to dress up in church, particularly since I played in the worship orchestra pretty well from the day I was saved. I didn't want to give God less than I gave alcohol and my pursuit of fame.

The church I am in now is extremely relaxed. But when I play in our worship team, or preach, I dress up. Some of our itinerant speaking have come in shorts, sandals, short sleeved tee shirts (called "muscle shirts here") and preached a good sermon. And one guy had the worst sermon I have ever heard in my life dressed like that. But it reflected more a lack of preparation, and pacing around "umming" instead of preaching, rather than the clothes. And summer is hot here in the sem-desert, and we only have fans, not A/C in our 100 year old church, so no one complains about clothes.

My question would be to you Utah? "Did the message start off the wrong foot, too?" Maybe it was his appearance plus what he was saying that turned you off?

If not, going back to the old age thing. Senility is closing in on us all.

The problem with nudists is that all of them SHOULD NEVER BE NUDE in public. Some of us have the common sense to know not to let it all hang out.

I can tell you from experience....I have witnessed to, taught, preached to about 250,000 people without exaggeration...even been on radio, T.V. and internet.....and I have reached more people dressed normally, and have been more widely received dressed normally in camo, jeans etc. than I ever have in a suit......I am fairly confident that the Apostles, Jesus and John the Baptist were not all "suited" up.......it is the message that carries the power...not the dress code....!
