My husband is a coffee-snob. (Not the kind of guy to stick his nose up in the air, if offered coffee. He just only drinks very good coffee.) His favorite is Sumatra from Starbucks.

Starbucks. The company owned by a guy who is more left than most lefts, but sticks to his guns on his issues, even if left-wingers have been destroying his stores during riots recently. He out-and-out told people if they disagree with his politics, don't buy his coffee.

Hubby answered. "Okay."

This shocked me. Up there with me ever thinking I'd give up Pepsi or Coke. I don't know what I'd do if I gave up either. (Sales. Got to go with sales. lol) But hubby thought about it, lined up which coffees he still likes, minus Starbucks, (and Seattle's Best IS Starbucks), and he means it. No more Starbucks in this house.

The owner doesn't know it yet, but hubby was great with Word of Mouth promoting for the brand. Now he'll be great at Word of Mouth boycotting the brand.

I remember the grape boycott of the 1960s. And Target was boycotted for their stance on transgenderism. Boycotts work, if enough do it.

Yep,I agree with boycotting if you're being consistent. But when it comes to Disney and kids its a little harder. Disney owns a lot of things most people dont know about. My sisters hubby was fine throwing out toys and movies until I informed him ESPN is Disney owned. Uhh huh shoe on the other foot. Boycott the movie and Disney will listen. They are bbq-ing them on their FB page. People are not happy.

This is why parents should be edifying their kids at a young age, because the media is not the only influence out there when they go to school with other kids whom may not be so edified as yours should be, that they may have influence on your kids as well.

With the Lord's help, teach your kids to trust the Lord as their Good Shepherd to help them walk through this valley of death so He will help them to fear no evil for He is with them always, and to lean on Him to love others, but hate the sin. That is what every believers should be doing out there today by His grace & by His help as lights in the world that needs to see all our hopes in Christ Jesus.

I've never told my son he couldn't watch or listen to something. He is about to turn ten and he now polices himself. He hates vulgar language and grotesque or sexual content in movies tv or music.

The "forbidden fruit" is a strong draw. Why focus on it? The bible tells us to focus on what is good. Protesting anything is focusing on the bad and giving it power over you.

As far as whether or not that's an overreaction, it depends on the motivations and the parents wishes. Every parent needs to draw a line on what content is safe for a child to see. Very few movies have characters who never sin. How children perceive those actions largely depends on what their parents teach them. If a parent shows their child Robin Hood, a child might easily come out of the viewing with he message that stealing's okay as long as you do so from a rich person. Peter Pan demonstrates that killing is okay as long as the other person is a pirate. However, few parents outright boycott these films. They may wait until the child is a certain age, but usually that's it. The parents decide that these messages are safe to expose their child to because they expect their child to overlook the bad parts and realize that what the characters do isn't necessarily right.

And lets face it, it can be extremely helpful to see fake people struggle with the same things we do. It lets us know we're not alone and teaches us how we might fight sin in our lives. One of my favorite characters in Chronicles of Narnia is Edmund. Not because I approve of him betraying his siblings. But because I recognize that that's what me and all humans do to Christ.

If I were the parent, I'd watch it first and then decide. The Bible says that sex between members of the same sex is wrong. However, it also says rape and kidnapping is wrong. I haven't seen the film so I can't say how Belle and the Beast's relationship is portrayed, but in the Disney version and the original story, Belle is held captive by the Beast. Yes, she makes the exchange to save her father. Any consent she gives to a relationship is extremely dubious. I know they don't have sex on screen, but they still have romantic interactions and their marriage indicates what is to come. The parent then needs to decide: Is it okay to show a movie to their child that glorifies abusive relationships? Is the presence of a homosexual couple in a movie enough to stop their kid from watching it?
Is it okay to show the kids then explain why certain actions are wrong?
The answers to these questions will help the parent decide whether or not they're okay with their kid watching the film.

Until I see the movie I won't know how to judge it. I'm surprised none of you mention the feminist view of Emma Watson and her agenda against female sexism? Maybe the movie is designed to push away homophobia? Homophobic Christians I'm sure count for only a minority of Christians so good luck with the boycott there, and teaching your kids to hate gays, rather than be more loving towards them and then maybe your child could befriend a gay one day and turn them to Jesus, right? Isn't that what we are supposed to be doing, befriending those who really need to get to know Jesus, rather than hanging around with only people than we love or that love us, or that our parents tell us aren't the enemy?
Boy! You've really bought the hype, haven't you?

"Homophobic?" Funny. Do you know who coined that phrase? A homosexual writer telling the homosexuals to avoid hetrosexuals. How about that? But what does it mean today? It means an irrational fear of homosexuals. Guess what. The vast majority of people speaking up against homosexualaity don't fear them at all.

We hate the sin! We hate what it does to a person. We hate it, because it kills people at a younger age and love the person.

So keep feeding the agenda without any understanding of reality.

When ESPN starts making homosexuality a part of its package, it's time to give it up. (Hey, we don't have cable, so not a problem with ESPN anyway. lol) ABC? I do boycott shows with homosexuals in the never-can-do-wrong roles. (Hey, ABC. Not like it has a lot of good shows on it already. lol) Toys? If my kids already have the toys, a bit late to boycott those. Taking them to Disney World? It wouldn't happen and the kids would survive.

Disagreement on their FB page? Doesn't do a thing. The box office take tells them how upset people are, not words.

Again, when Disney gets the idea that 97% of their customers might be offended by what they're doing for 3% -- when their pockets aren't stuffed -- then they get the message.

Actually the FB posts were saying they were stopping support. Target found out and Disney better listen. The issue with going to Disney is rather difficult because their dad said they would go to Universal instead for spring break. Well my sister had stopped supporting Marvel characters because they were too violent and adult. Universal has the Marvel characters which are owned by... you guessed it,Disney. So now all the kids toys, movies and spring break plans are in the garbage. They're great kids and they are young. The thing is if you're going full ban you can't support Mc Donalds and a lot of other restaurants,no Wal-mart and most other stores. We're in the world not of it.Stand up where we can but its not possible to go full ban.Even the Amish pack the van and go to Wal-mart for goods.I saw a documentary once on porn and what companies get kick backs from it. No way to go full ban. every phone,tv,store and motel chain get money from porn. In the world, not of it.

Out of all the hidden messages Disney has done over the years, this is what gets Christians upset. Out of all the filth on tv, in movies and songs in general, this is what gets Christians upset? I don't believe in gay marriage. But I sense a lot of hypocrisy coming from my fellow brothers and sisters. If you're going to boycott one thing, boycott them all. Don't pick and choose.

Boycotts have a minimal effect on most businesses. Buying from the competition does. There several people who make good Christian movies. Buy from them.

When I was young, it was important to wear the right sneakers, the right jeans, and have the right toys. We got none of it. We didn't lose friends over it. We didn't grow up deprived. (I wanted Chatty Cathy. I got Mom's doll house. I wanted a pogo sticks. I got my great grandmothers, grandmothers, mothers, and my very own china teaset with child-sized cupboard. I wanted Keds sneakers. I got granny corrective shoes, but also a complete collection of Beatrix Potter books and figurines. Everything I wanted would have been trashed now. The only thing that was trashed from what I got were the shoes. I outgrew them. lol) I'm really not big on giving kids everything they want.

Now, I don't go to chain restaurants anyway, and try to avoid WalMart because the one we have near us is so crowded, it feels like Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve any day of the week, but what does Walmart have to do with Disney? I know the Waldens didn't sell. And McDonald's? It's franchised, so also not owned by Disney.

And that's why 3% of the country, (even less than that since the majority of homosexuals aren't into forcing people to go along with any agenda), dictates terms for 100% of the country. Because, obviously there is no such thing as "enough is enough."

A. Boycotts have minimum effect because most won't boycott. Hubby and I've been boycotting Comcast since they raised their rates to a freaking $35 a month! I think it's not working because so many others are fine spending $150 a month. lol Boycotts are only effective when people are willing to keep at them long enough that it affects the corporate quotas.

B. What Christian movies are any good? So far, out of all I've watched, The Book of Ruth was good. The rest have been so hokey I can't take them.

I seem to usually like animated movies -- Ice Age, Toy Story (gee, no surprise there, right? lol), and the Minions. (And, yup. I get Pixars connection to Disney too, but it doesn't affect the movies.) And, in return for sitting through my taste in movies, I end up watching spy movies with hubby, and yet, have to ask -- has Tom Cruise ever been in a movie where he wasn't a jerk in the beginning and then caught a clue somewhere along the way? I know. Tom Cruise = Scientology, but I've got nothing against free Americans making a living doing something while believing any hogwash they want. My line in the sand is simply don't indoctrinate kids into the hogwash. So it's better he's an actor than a teacher or pastor.

You think I'm just figuring this out? I was a marketer before becoming disabled. And, that college training taught me how to do that, so it's been a really long time since I get how it works. (1970's.) I get how something sells.

I never had to childproof my house for my kid. You know why? 3 Reasons....I watched him like a hawk, I didn't tell him he couldn't touch anything and if he was about to touch something that could hurt him or he could break we talked about it and explored the reasons why.

No none of those are owned by Disney but Disney makes a tidy sum selling products in their stores. So if you're boycotting one why not the other? The kids are really good and not spoiled. It just my BIL goes off and tangents and never sticks to anything. Then he has the kids upset and crying. But then that tends to be his over all personality.
