I'd rather be alarmed if your leader does not talk with the Russians. Consider this. The same fear you have is shared by Russians fearing the USA could invade them. Due to past records regarding the middle east this fear is justified. So it is rather good news for both countries to have your leaders meet for sharing common ground and friendship, for in friendship there is peace.
Be aware in the western world (The UK included), we tend to think all other countries should be converted to a democracy. People are different from place to place, country to country. For many countries, to change to democracy would be disaster! It would mean a total break down of rules and life, as some countries peoples lives are so different, democracy would quickly turn to lawlessness and corruption.
God knows what He is doing. We dont.
