I am a 43 year old widowed mom of 6 children. I have had several people say to me that now God is my husband. I can't find Scripture to support this statement. Any thoughts?

Yea its in scripture somewhere. I challenged someone to show me it once. I'm on my phone at walmart checkout lane so i cnat google it right now. It says he's father to the chldless and hubby to the widowed
She wasn't asking anyone if she could remarry. Kind of an insensitive response given her situation.

God isn't your husband, unless you are a nun, they really do believe they marry God!
God is your Heavenly Father. Jesus is your friend. The Holy Spirit is your councillor.
There are various bible verses which refer to God being a husband to Israel in the old
testement and to the church in the new testement, i.e. the church being the bride.
But the context is completely different.

yeah i think though its true that Christ is the husband of the church including yourself and myself, I think people say this with the assumption that you have given up remarrying. It really depends on you? If you think you are quite content by yourself for the remaining years then that statement is fine and accurate... but then again if you still think and feel like you desire a husband here on earth then i think its okay to seek in hopes the Lord will provide. 
Well in Timothy is written "Honour widows who r really widows". May be u r not in that category (may be u have dad or brother who takes care of u or ur oldest son or ur in-laws (relatives) do it). If u dont have protection from anywhere, then God will protect u and take care of u. The best option is to remarry. Greetings
My thought, ask them what they mean by saying that and where to find it in the Bible ( I think Isa 54 is the best answer but I also agree with Miri that that is properly understood in the context of God promising to restore Israel). I've known Christians to spout off all sorts of nonsense and call it Biblical because there's a verse like that in the Bible somewhere, but they couldn't tell you where it is or what it means; they've just heart that it's in Bible so it must be good.
And we'd like to extend our sympathies for your loss, suddenly becoming a single mom to 6 kids is tough, but you sound like you are going to do an amazing job at raising your kids.

Pokymom: If I had to guess (and I do have to guess, because I was not there to hear how they said it) I would say they are trying to be comforting. Something along the lines of "God will take care of you" or something. *shrug* Sorry, that's the best I can do. Just smile at them graciously and move on.

God is certainly not your husband but may find you a loving husband if this is what you desire. I pray that God helps you as it must be horribly hard to be a widowed mother of 6 at the age of 43. Glad to have you as a member of our family. Welcome to CC.

I believe the Isaiah 54 4 verse quoted to you was a symbolic reference to the Church in general and God being as a husband to us.. The bride of christ is often used as a symbolic reference to the Body of people who follow Jesus..

To the OP, maybe you can ask these people and your church, what it is willing to do to
support you, in light of the following verses.
James 1:25-27 NKJV
[25] But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is
not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what
he does. [26] If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle
his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. [27] Pure
and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and
widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
For Christians to say God is your husband now, is just a get out clause from their
responsibilities. But there again they unfortunately are in good company.
Its sad that "trust in God" is often used as a get out clause when a person is in
difficulty.
Praying you wil get the help and support you need.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. That must be incredibly hard on you and your children.
You should certainly cling to the Lord in all matters, but if it is your wish to remarry there is NOTHING wrong with that.
I hope you have a large support network of family and friends. Praying for you.
Brother Tommy has everyone's best interest at heart. I always appreciate someone defending others and you're to be commended, but there's no fire to be extinguished regarding Tommy's post.
NOW God is your husband?
God doesn't take the place of your husband, as NOW would seem to suggest. Was He not part of your life before the divorce? God doesn't automatically become something to us. God's love for you is no greater, NO LESS, no different than it was before you were divorced.
My question is: Who is NOW your husband's wife? Perish the thought.
God was married to Israel. They were His people. If they should go and serve gods, idols then they would be committing spiritual adultery.
God was married to Israel. He delivered His people from bondage, provided for all their needs, and the nation as whole were unfaithful to Him.
A husband can learn from God's love for His people Israel and then be that godly husband. It's Just as Paul said in Ephesians 5.25 Husbands love your wives, even a Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.
Your friends mean well.
I am sorry about your divorce.
