Hello,

How about a calculation of the number of posts divided by the rep points, or vise versa? This will give a number to how meaningful a person's posts are to others. For instance, if someone has only a few posts but with high rep point, his posts will have more value than someone who has low rep points but a high post count. This could help people take note of people they might want to follow.

I've gotten rep for some very random posts at times :)

I can spend an hour composing a post that reveals the very essence of my heart... really tough to write.... and it won't even get a single like.

Sometimes I have just flipped a thought out there from off the top of my head, and it has gotten maybe 8 LIKES and three REPS

I understand there will be anomalies. But it would be a general indication. Friend's reps will likely account for only one or two points.

When you have a lot of rep points, does that mean you are posting meaningful stuff, or does it mean you are telling people what they want to hear?

What has transformed my life is repentance. I speak a lot about that on this website. It is not a popular message, not a message that brings me rep points. I do sleep well at night, though.

I don't think this suggestion is needed. Rep points depending on how you see them can be utterly meaningless or can show the credibility of your everyday posts. I have heard of people giving each other rep to make it go really high which to me defeats the entire purpose and yes some can say that if you have high rep you got it mainly from telling people what they want to hear but at the same time you may have extremely high rep because you speak the heart of God and it impacts peoples hearts.

Me personally every rep point i have does not matter, if i receive rep from something I said I am of course grateful and it makes me feel as God spoke through me to impact the heart of another person however even if my rep is over 100 more than a person who has only 2 rep points their words and their value as a fellow cc member are just important as my own. Rep points are often seen as a measure of worth and perhaps in a way it can be but when all comes down to it their just a point system that means nothing and doesn't measure a persons worth or the value in their words.

I don't tend to give rep often, to me giving rep is like the ultimate like and you really have move my heart to make me do it but trust me when I give you rep that means you have struck my heart intensely. i don't just give it willy nilly lol

I dont know how people manage to have 20,000 to 30,000 posts etc in a
relatively short space of time. My brain would hurt if I typed that much. Lol

Some people only post on serious issues.. If they are any good then their rep power will be high as a percentage of their total posts..

Other people might post serious posts but they may also post on trivia or entertaining word game threads and so they will be posting a lot more and will generally not earn any reputation points for their posts in those play threads..

The act of repeated and scheduled Confessional "Repentance" would garner a lot of "LIKE's" on a predominately Catholic forum. LOL

I think I get repped whenever people have a fever or something, and they just have no idea what they're doing.

i'm just curious, but do you happen to work in some type of engineering?

it's the logical thought progression that makes me ask.
logic is a foreign concept to me.

I'm learning from this thread a little more about rep points (newbie), How do you give one? I've received a couple but have no idea why, or who decided I was worth one.Couldn't have been because I was just blowing smoke though because I don't know anyone well enough to run that kind of game down on. Unless saying "welcome" to a new person coming into CC is considered just telling a person what they want to hear. I wanted to hear it when I was new.

You give rep by clicking on the little star icon at the bottom left of a person's post. You can write a comment, or just your name, so people know who to thank. :) For every 100 rep points you receive, you get 1 power. Sometimes 2 or 3 depending on how many powers the person repping you has. When you reach 50 posts, you get a power. After that, the post numbers increase, so you have more to post until you reach your next power. Right now, you have 0 rep powers. So if you repped someone, you wouldn't bring their point level up, nor would you give them a power.

If someone with multiple powers reps you, you gain that many points. For example, I have... *peeks at my rep powers* I have 231 powers, so you would gain 231 rep points, and depending on the current rep point level you have, you would gain at least 1, possibly 2 powers from me. :)

Once you hit 50 posts the rep power should also add the rep points from previous rep comments. Actually, you're quite reputable and it's a pleasure having you as a member.

my son-in-law has a PhD in engineering, and his dad and brothers all have at least a Master's.

your ability to use reason and logic, and especially your calm demeanor in a contentious thread remind me of them. :)
