Can a mature Christian be pro-gay marriage?

There are a number of individuals within the Church that categorize themselves as evangelicals who are promoting gay marriage.

Many of them are younger Christians, and they tend to be gay or bisexual themselves. However, some churches, as we know, support gay marriage and even gay leadership within the church.

My position is that this is one of the issues which sort out true Christians and organizations that God is working through from those that are not true Christians and organizations that he is not working through. It is going to become plainer and plainer which people and organizations belong to Him and which people and organizations are in rebellion against Him, despite their claims.
How about gay marriage needs to be left where it belongs and that's with the secular world. In no instance should any Christian support it. In fact we should be taking a hard stand for traditional family virtues.

Marriage was instituted by God----when men pervert it---it brings judgment----we need as Christians to support God's Word---be compassionate toward those who are lost---but not agree with things which are wrong...

IMO, a Christian shouldn't even have to ask this question.. Especially when they (should) already know the answer.

No offense, sparkman.. :)

Jesus has commanded us to love everyone. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone. I don't like gay marriage, but are we as a society better off by supporting loving monogamous relationships or by despising those who have chosen that lifestyle?

So, support it? I don't think I personally would if I was a lawmaker in my state. Do I support adultery? How about adultery in the television programs we enjoy? Where do we draw the lines? And how can we as Christians set the benchmark for morality when we are steeped in sin ourselves?

Let's love the homosexuals into the Body of Christ, and let the Holy Spirit fix what's wrong- in the same way we allow Him to fix us and our sinful behavior. Think about it.

All one has to do is Read Romans Chapter One what Apostle Paul Stated..Read every word. Did Apostle Paul remotely suggest we should all join hands and let bygones be bygones?

People who are in a Homosexual relationship need to get on their knees and Ask The Lord to forgive them and stay away from These Evil Spirits sent by Satan..

Amen my friend- but let's not just single out that sin; let's also ask forgiveness for our sins, like overeating, slothfulness, gossip, and being those sins of omission of which we are all quite guilty.

Yes. Salvation is based on faith in Christ alone. Even mature Christians sometimes falter or interpret scriptures in either a false way or different than the main church.

For example:
Many mature Christians believe women should be allowed to be pastors despite Timothy 2:12. They use examples of female workers in the church (Philippians 4:3) as evidence that Paul was speaking about a specific church and that this command doesn't apply to all churches.

There are debates about what laws in Leviticus we should follow today. We were set free from the law, but we're clearly expected to follow some laws. Which laws were meant for the Israelites and which are meant for all followers of God is up for debate. Most would agree that we shouldn't put witches and adulterers to death, and we no longer offer animal sacrifices because Christ was the ultimate sacrifice. But some laws are harder to determine how they apply to us. For instance, children should respect and obey their parents, but if an adult Christian is given an order by their parents, is he/she obligated to obey? Is it okay to work on Sundays? Clearly it's meant to be kept holy, but Jesus also stated that it was okay to work if it was doing good. Well, where is the boundary? Is it only life saving work that is okay? What about single parents who need to put food on the table and may be able to get off Sunday without getting fired or starving but could potentially earn more money and better their families by working? And if Christians are patrons of restaurants and go shopping on Sunday, are they furthering the work and thereby sinning?

The Bible clearly states that a woman should submit to her father if he wants her to marry someone. But very few Christian women today would be willing to let her father pick the man she's tied to for the rest of her life. Is that sinful?

There are many debates about scriptures and mature Christians fall on both sides of the issue. Homosexuality is no exception. Some people point out that every reference to homosexuality could refer to pagan rituals, not loving relationships. Personally, I'm not 100% sold with that explanation, but then, while I believe one should honor one's parents, I don't believe that means one must spend one's life enslaved to them or any arbitrary man they choose. I would never marry someone my father picked for me, as I don't believe he would choose a Godly husband for me and, even if he tried to find someone I would want to marry, he would fail. Maybe I'm wrong and that command is not cultural, but mean to be applied to all Christians.

I Corinthians 6:8-10 "But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers!
9
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,
10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Sounds like you can be homosexual as long as you don't practice homosexuality, which is what defines homosexuality, other wise they are lustful thoughts, which according to Jesus is the same as committing the act itself. Please don't say God loves the sinner, but hates the sin. Where are the Scriptures for that?

II Chronicles 19:1-3 Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned in safety to his house in Jerusalem.2 But Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this, wrath has gone out against you from the Lord.3 Nevertheless, some good is found in you, for you destroyed the Asheroth out of the land, and have set your heart to seek God.”

Psalm 11:4-6 "
The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord's throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man. 5 The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
6 Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup."

The hippie god in the sky that loves everyone and would not judge anyone to hell, is not the Lord God of the Bible. Some say God loves everyone, John 3:16, here's the context of John 3:16, that love is that He gave His Son. His personal love is towards the Church/called/chosen/elect/beloved, here's what Paul says Romans 5:8 "but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Christ died for the Church. John 10:14-15 "I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep."

Ephesians 5:2, 25 "
And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant
offering and sacrifice to God......Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,"
Galatians 1:4 "who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,"
II Thessalonians 2:14 "
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,"
Titus 2:14 "who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works."
Revelation 3:9 "Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you."

John 17:8-9, 20-21
For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.....20 I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

All of the you, us, our, he are the Church/called/chosen/elect/beloved, God's general love was in the act of sending His Son, but His relational or redemptive love is toward the Church/called/elect/chosen/beloved. Jesus' pray was for those that have believed and the ones that would believe through the Apostles testimony, He made it plain that He was not praying for those that are not given to Him, to believe on Him. Notice what He prayed for the world, that they may know that the Father sent the Son, He didn't not pray that they would believe in the Son, who the Father sent, which is salvation. But that they would know that the Father sent Him.

All humanity ever born except 1 (Jesus Christ).are not without fault. To compare however Gluttony to being Homosexual is a stretch..It comes down to this.

A person can choose to ignore The Word of God and refuse to submit themselves to the creator, and keep.on sinning over and over and die and go to The Lake of Fire one day, or they can get out of the sinning buisness, humble themselves to God and his Word, and Obey it and Join The Savior in Heaven

The problem we have today is the big push to classify homosexuality as a non sin. I don't think that most Christians have singled out homosexuality as the worse sin, it is just that Christians are being forced to call it a sin because there is a big move to claim that homosexuality is not a sin. Lots of folks have committed adultery, however I have never heard of anyone claiming that adultery is not a sin because they were born that way and can't help their self. However that claim is made all the time for homosexuality. So Christians are being put on the spot by the homosexual movement to declare clearly that homosexuality is indeed a sin against God.

I don't for a second think it's my "duty" to tell unbelieving homosexuals how they are supposed to live. They don't need to change their behavior...they need to hear the gospel.
God tells us Different in His Holy Word.....Ezekiel 3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

God says if you don't warn people about their wicked ways, and they die in their sins their blood is upon you/me.

No person can be pro-homosexual and be in Christ Jesus. Can Satan cast out Satan? Likewise if we are in Jesus we can't be against Jesus. I can have a friend who is a homosexual, and a friend who is a thief. I am nit going to shirk my responsibility in either case. I will tell both that their current sins lead strait to hell, and only Jesus Christ can break the bondage of Satan whose desire is to take them to hell.

I agree. We should not have to ask, but I was uplifted by poll results.

I often feel that far too many Christians have bought into the lie that homosexuality is okay (not to say that there is an acceptable number that claim to be Christians and teach this nonsense).

I'll just say the poll results were better than I expected.

For clarification, I believe homosexuality is a sin- I just don't believe that ostracizing them is the way to lead them to Christ. And I believe dogmatically that sin is sin- God views all sin as repulsive. The homosexuals need to be loved into the church.

I agree, all Sinners need to be loved into the Church...Jesus said this in Luke 13 verse 5:
"EXCEPT YOU REPENT,.YOU SHALL ALL LIKEWISE PERISH". Unless a person is willing to give up everything sinful in their life, God will not forgive them.
Nowhere does the Bible teach it's OK to keep committing sin and God will allow you into his Holy Kingdom in heaven.
What I am saying is if someone wants to be forgiven they must have a willing desire to give up Sinning for him to mold that person.

I agree 100%. Well said!

All sinning is a result of the works of the flesh being manifested in our lives. From living a homosexual lifestyle to living in malice and the slandering of others in the body of Christ. They are in the same lists as being destructive to us in this earth.

A "Christian" can be as for pro-gay, and still consider themselves being a christian, as let's say a horse can go around, saying he's a skunk!

It would seem, to a true believer, that, BOTH of the illustrations I posted, are doing a pretty good job of deceiving themselves!

I'd say, read the book of Jude!

Pretty soon, christians will be coloring hard-boiled eggs, and wearings "masks" on October 31rst!

Ya see?....It comes down to a "Spinal Revolution"....Peace!...for a PIECE of your spine!

I know!...Sounds harsh, right? Nonetheless, it's they way it is! 24/7 - 365 days a year! Ya can't really think, going to "worship" for a coupla hours on a Sunday, and packing it all away until next Sunday, is actually going to win this war, do ya?....."Well, DO YA...Punk?"

And we can literally SEE these days, just how well God's Army, is doing in just striving to hold the line!

How well is it we are honoring God, in Christ, when christians allow that which is an ABOMINATION in His eyes?!?

All sin is bondage. Is it loving to encourage sin in others by condoning their sin?

No sin should ever be condoned. Unfortunately sin is a part of our genetics, and until we get to Glory we are all under the same curse from Adam.

When you receive The Spirit of The Lord within you you receive the "SIN Restrainer" that is why people willing to do whatever it takes to stop doing bad things that has them bound up to Satan, then God will come inside and you have a 24 hour a day inside telling you when you are about to sin, Not too.
