Me too :) if someone posts a post which is REALLY, REALLY inspirational or fantastic, I'll give them one. Or if it just makes me laugh and I think it's genius and brilliant. I will give a rep out for that too :) like how I gave a rep for that thread "How do fleas mate?" lol cos that was just HILARIOUS! and pure GENIUS!!!!

It all seems arbitrary, to me. Anything subjective is arbitrary. There are some people who have hardly any rep points who I think are pretty smart and sharp, and vice versa.

I was at a site that had threads especially set up for reps . Usually the thread was open for only one day ,like the first of the month. It was called the happy reps day thread . It was fun and light hearted most of the time but could get weird . Also the reps at the other site were programmed so you could give negative reps too . You could watch a troll's rep bar go from green to red in minutes. It could be brutal at times . My opinion is keep it like it is . If you get reps cool , if not . Oh well it is only number and not a measure of your worth .
Besides like the old Smith Barney commercial said I get my reps the old fashioned way I earn them. Ha ha ha .

Hmm... I think it's pointless. I mean rep points are given when people respect what you have said and thus maybe you spoke the heart of God, but if one gets their rep in that fashion it takes the entire point away.

There is no honor in receiving rep like that

Hokay, late to the party as usual but I did wade thru the thread and here's my worthless 2 cents

In the big scheme of things reps are meaningless. But like Willie said if you're going to participate in it you should do so honestly and not game the system. And like Blain touched on, dishonesty in the system weakens your credibility; not forgetting that God says if you get your rewards from men you don't get one from Him..? As for how I see it working, I like posts and rep people. And I've liked posts I disagreed with, I don't have to agree with someone to understand and respect their reasoning.

To the one who did not know about the system, points are gained and given in a complicated algorithm that includes factors like time spent, number of posts, points received, and I still swear there's something about the second Sunday after a blue moon involved :). And yeah, once you Rep someone you have to rep some others before you can rep that person again. Prevents people from piling points on a buddy.

Oh and Earnest, I'd take 10 of your points for even suggesting such a thing. In a nice way of course :)

You're right. It's my nature to look for short cuts. I was thinking about "gaming the system".

You get rep points for your comments.

Are you COMPLETELY SURE you WANT to go there?

Luke 12:48) But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Would it be wrong to start a thread to give rep points to everyone who posts?

The thread would have no informative value. It would just allow people to pass points back and forth.

Are you saying I should be beaten for asking this question? That's a bit harsh, don't you think?

Well, this gives me a chance to ask if you found out something I have been wondering but never tried finding out:

Apart from the "you need to spread some reputation around before blablalba" , are there any limits?
Like "You cant give more rep today" ? :p or can you keep giving it infinitely as long as you give it to different people?

I'm not sure what the daily limit is regarding giving rep but believe that it is 9 or 10 times a day. To give the same person more rep might requiring spreading it out a little more.

To he who much rep points is given, much will be expected of him...........you focused on the part I did not highlight in red instead of the part I highlighted in red........ :)

Some people treat this site like that already... I know some who just come on here so they can collect reputation points and likes for their own personal satisfaction, and they hardly ever say anything fruitful... I wouldn't say that it would be wrong to "boost" each other, but i think it would be best to just be solid 100% and earn them the legit way and be consistent..Quality over quantity.

True mentality. "If I just post scores of garbage and dominate in numbers, that means something". Accomplish something fruitful with your life and a few posts that make a difference in the lives of those around you as opposed to parading numbers that haven't amounted to a thing.

I confess, I like to give out reputation. And I have occasionally given out too many reps, and the site will say "you have given out too much reputation today". I haven't counted it to see how many is the limit, though. Most of the time, I give out reps because I agree with what the person said.

I give out reps, based on whether I like the post or not. If it doesn't impress me, make me laugh, or give me something to learn from it, I don't rep it...
