Salvation in Christ is eternal, unmerited, and never rescinded.
Salvation is salvation from sin and its consequences.
Matt. 1:19. And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly.
20. But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
21. “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
1 John 1:9. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
When sinners place their faith in Christ and confess their sins, He is “faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 Cor. 6:9. Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
10. nor thieves, nor
the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
However, it is our responsibility keep ourselves clean; and, should be become recontaminated, we are instructed in the New Testament to
cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit,
2 Cor. 7:1. Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
James 4:8. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
1 John 3:3. And everyone who has this hope
fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
All too often, however, Christians who have been washed and sanctified by faith in Christ
(Acts 26:18) do not bother to cleanse themselves and the last state becomes worse for them than the first ,
2 Peter 2:20. For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.
21. For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them.
22. It has happened to them according to the true proverb, “A DOG RETURNS TO ITS OWN VOMIT,” and, “A sow, after washing,
returns to wallowing in the mire.”
If the act of suicide is the consequence of again becoming entangled in the defilements of the world, the last state of that person becomes worse for them than the first. However, if the act of suicide is committed by an otherwise faithful Christian, it is my opinion that that faithfulness will trump an act of desperation.
