I know this is an unpopular opinion, but hear me out please. The Bible shouldnt be taken at face value at times. Things were written with laws and social policy written at the time. There are many rules and regulations just not feasible or that make any sense in today's world. Sure you shouldnt wear clothes of polyester back then, but that might be because the industry was bad or was poisonous or something, or you shouldnt plant two seeds of the same crop next to eachother for whatever reason they deemed important, but the industries changed and nothing is wrong with it in this day and age. The Bible defines what marriage is about 6 or 7 different ways in different times. If a man rapes a woman, does he still have to pay her father 50 shekels of silver? A lot of people like to pick and choose what they believe God wishes and still say they follow it to the T, but you just cant. God blessed the governments to make decisions, to dish punishments, and to help us grow. That's why capital punishment is allowed. Cross dressing was highly illegal back then because the government and world deemed it immoral . I believe as long as you believe you are good in the eyes of the lord he wont let you down. He will guide you and give you a clear path to what he wants us to do in life, because God doesnt lie, he wants us to be happy.
Keep in mind the "The Lord detests those who do" bit. If we can say "this part can be taken at face value" and "this part cannot be taken at face value", then we do not have a God, but a mere couple of moral guidelines that we can pick and choose whenever we feel the need to.
Yes there are ceremonial laws that are no longer relevant for our time. But Jesus said Himself that He had not come to change the law.
Those who feel the need to live or act as the other gender are living by the flesh, they either are doing it because it "feels good", or because they have allowed themselves to believe that they cannot be happy with the body they were given, and must have the body of others. But either way, it is living according to the flesh, and the Bible warns us against living by the flesh-
Romans 8:5- Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
Romans 8:13- For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live
.
We are told that "everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way" (1 Cor 14:40), Jesus said Himself, God made us man and woman. He had a purpose for creating both sides of mankind, and it seems clear that He does not want us doing what we shouldnt do.
Not hurting anyone doesnt define right and wrong. Pointing to ceremonial laws does not undo the Law. We are told how to behave in this world, we are told not to crossdress, not to have sexual relations outside of marriage, not to have sexual relations with anyone other than our spouse and not to have relations with anyone of the same gender.
God wants us to be happy, but to be happy with what He has given us. The Lord told us not to collect our treasures on earth but in Heaven. If you spend your life collecting earthly treasures in order to make you feel happy, are you doing what He has told you to do? Or having physical relations with others outside of marriage. This often makes people feel happy, but is it what God wants us to do?
God has told us not to dress as the other gender, there is no way around it other than ignoring the commandment. Anyone is free to do it, but no one who follows the Word of God will tell you anything other than God has warned us not to do it.
If a man rapes a woman, does he still have to pay her father 50 shekels of silver?
(Also, the Bible doesnt say that if a man rapes a woman he has to pay her father silver, here is what the Bible actually says about rape-
Deut 22:25-27
But if a man finds a betrothed young woman in the countryside, and the man forces her and lies with her , then only the man who lay with her shall die . But you shall do nothing to the young woman; there is in the young woman no sin deserving of death, for just as when a man rises against his neighbor and kills him, even so is this matter. For he found her in the countryside, and the betrothed young woman cried out, but there was no one to save her.
