[SUP]7 [/SUP]as we accept His Love for us, His grace, we are then to walk in the commandments given through Jesus Christ as we grow. and this removes fear, until then Grace is doing its work while working in conjunction with the fear of God, that moves us into the obedience of God, and at that point, we no longer have any reason to be afraid of wrath, and all the praise and thanks always will belong to Jesus for what He did to bring us Home and none of us will ever Lose appreciation for Gods Work accomplished through Him, to save us.
But wisdom would not remove it yet as we walk on earth, Wisdom would say fear is strengthened until we die, knowing His love is what we want over sins lies. If we stop fearing God we don't see the truth in living on planet earth yet, that if we do not fear God what will keep us from not fearing sin since our bodies and soul are predisposed to it in our flesh, which in the fear of God is dormant, but outside of the fear of God would give possible ground to tarry again in its tempting thoughts in our minds.

The fear of the Lord in relationship to the life we live currently on earth, is in direct relationship to the love of God shed abroad by the blood on the Cross. We must keep in step still, even after regeneration, that, to remain in Christ we must pick up our cross daily and follow Him, and to do that we need to place our minds in Christ, the fear of God, keeps us from being duped by satan even still, for even if we live to love God, if there is not the threat of God's judgement on sin's penalty still abounding, we may think we can remain a sinner and still enter in with God. That is an investment many people will find fearful; even fearfully trembling, if they lay down their fear of God and, thus, don't understand the power of God for His good, in loving us; and His judgmental powers in giving justice even vengeance to that which He has warned us He will judge; even yet still in the results.

We must start our thinking on fear, from His perspective first, and not man's perspective. Then, we can see how it is not a thing of ugliness, but a thing of beauty in that if we are not to be in His judgement then it helps us to stay in His blessings and all we need to know of God then, is that He loves us as a son or daughter. But until heaven, fear is healthy, even loving, for it is God's character that makes it so.

Fear has to do with punishment... perfect love casts out fear :)
Fear has to do with recognizing something that could be dangerous to us. And we need never forget that God's wrath is more dangerous than satan's hate of God. But, in that reality of fearing that truth, we also see another equally truism of God. That he has come to give us life, and to give it more abundantly.

So, as He has provided a way to be giving us life thru the Cross, will not be afraid of God; yet the fear God (in awe and respect) now. We should always fear His worthiness of wrath if we live in an anti-god spirit, or deny Him place in our lives. So, it is a truism best served objectively. It is a matter of fact: In Him, and thru Him we are to live in perfect peace, while outside of Himself, we are to fear Him, for this is also a fact that he will do as He has promised in love and justification, and in His judgement over the worlds system and sin; regardless of ourselves being set free thru the Cross. We are well-served by the fear of the Lord in both instances; for it is given to love in this manner.

So in Him - fear means awe and respect, while we are to fear him knowing anything outside of Himself is still not a life we can venture into and replace Him with, or we will have His judgement on sin once more become our due end.

Amen, the thing is that none of us are perfect. So as you say, fear remains. In order to keep us moving forward toward the goal, which will be achieved at his return. When love is perfect finally. I think scriptures like I shared there are actually designed to give us the motivation to keep walking, while scriptures about his mercy, his faithful love and loving kindness towards us, is there to keep us from being lost, as fear presses us on toward our goal. At whatever stage of this were at. Some walk faithfully, but there are things in the gospel that were not seeing yet, in which we are yet perfected. If we accept both sides of the issue. God is faithful to us, with his love and his kindness and compassion....and he is faithful to his warnings, that we understand the fear of God, was something Jesus walked in as well. And taught his disciples to fear God alone and not man.

God understands your stages of maturity. He is ok with that so be at peace with that, that is just the normal workmanship of God in our lives. But, what he does not accept, is when He makes something clear to us, as we are growing in Christ, and we say "no!" Then, it separates us, as is the characteristic of sin - immediately. But, wait the gig ain't up yet...Smile.... we need just go back to being onward and upward and change our "no" to "yes" in regards to His clear message - and do it.

Then, as time goes on learn from Him to do it - immediately, next time as He makes clear to you what to do. And so on and so on..as we learn....but if in our first "no" we told Him 'no' again, followed by many consecutive "no's" as He tries to restore you back in convictions of your spirit, to His loving righteousness; you, over time, will have your spirit harden, and now you have walked away from fellowship with Christ Jesus and His guaranteed protection. This is also a process, not one sin, but a choice over time to leave the position Christ affecting your relationship to God. I believe Scripture is clear on this.

Fear is not a rope around our necks, however, to keep us in line. It is a healthy loving reaction we set forth in our minds (volitionally) to protect us from the evil one and his influences, remaining accountable to God. God has freed us, but it is in Christ we have God to keep us free. Fear is a motivator and a reality check all at the same time to remain in His loving arms. Fear is not ugly if (and only if), it is "the fear of God." For we know His outcome of fearing Him will result in the nature of His character and integrity. I can see a loving restraint we are to do - yes. A healthy regard for what he is saying. But not a dogmatic restraint for the purposes of love He is whipping us in shape with. This is not what God wants, or is in His character. Let us read the verses on fearing God and let all the context around that one word bless us in His love, and in recognizing His Authority on earth and in the heavens.

What is the fear of the Lord and how do you know you have it?
Fear of the Lord is understanding the immense amount of trouble we can get ourselves in to if we don't obey the Lord's commandments. The purpose of those commandments is to keep us out of trouble.

Which "Ours" are you referring to? The Old"Ours" or the New "Ours" : having had the old crucified with Christ and I no longer live but Christ lives in me, "Ours?" As we rest and walk in His love so to do we become (a process) His love. (In time, Wholly- Holy).

I'll stick with Scripture :)

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has
to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

I would think that my love for him and for what he did for me would be enough motivation to stay out of "trouble"

When Satan is first introduced in Genesis, one blaring aspect of his character was that he seemed to have absolutely no fear of God. This seems very strange indeed when we consider that Satan was intelligent and had to understand that God was the Creator. Jesus taught us to fear God, and that was not healthy respect, it was fear. To me, to fear God means to have the understanding that you cannot manipulate the word of God because we cannot possibly fool God.

The word used in the New Testament for fearing the Lord is to do with awe and reverence - not in "being afraid as in terror".

Jesus said to FEAR Him who is able to kill you and then cast you into Hell. That is definitely real fear and not just respect.

There are two types of fear in the NT
1. the one that means to be afraid of something or someone, which we are not supposed to be. "For God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, & a sound mind".
2. The other is to have a fearful awe & reverence for God, for He is the Almighty, above all others. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom".

The word used in the New Testament for fearing the Lord is to do with awe and reverence - not in "being afraid as in terror".
Luk 12:4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
Luk 12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Heb 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Heb 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

It appears as if the fear of the Lord is to fear the punishment that will occur if a person does not obey God,for Jesus said, fear Him,for He has power to throw you in to hell,so that is what we fear.

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Ecc 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

This applies at all times, for it is the whole duty of man,to fear God,and keep His commandments, for He will judge all works.

Pro 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Pro 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

This applies today, and the fear of the LORD is to hate evil,so those who claim Christ but hold unto sin,it is a fearful thing to fall in to the hands of the living God.

Luk 23:39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
Luk 23:40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
Luk 23:41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
Luk 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
Luk 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

It is going to be a terrifying thing to stand before God without Christ - in that case - yes those need to have fear as in being afraid as Jesus said in Luke 12:5 - about being thrown into hell.

However - John said that this type of fear for the Christian means that they are not yet perfected in the love of God for them yet. Why?

Because fear involves punishment and there is no such thing for a Christian. ( despite what works-based believers and those that think we lose our salvation think ) We are one with the Lord. As Jesus is - so are we in this world in our inner man - the real us - the new creation in Christ.

1 John 4:17-19 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world.

[SUP]18 [/SUP] There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

[SUP]19 [/SUP] We love, because He first loved us.

what i honestly find in scripture regarding Fear, kind of Goes back to the rely i had above to 1975s post responding to the proverb about the beginning of fear, and resisting of correction.

Through adams disobedience in eden, fear came to man. if you look at the deception "God said...you will surely die" the fear came from His word saying " you will surely die" because satan deceived them into doing what God had said would bring death. So when Adam heard the sound of the Lord , the first recorded fear of God is evident " I heard your sound and was arfaid because i was naked so i hid" that truly says alot. He was now afraid, and He also Hid from the voice of God. its very evident this was passed to mankind when you Look at the reaction the people had at horeb. God speaks the commandments and they react to moses " Let not the Lord God speak to us anymore, or we will die" this is when Moses becomes mediator between God and man. Because they were afraid still, due to the breaking of the commandment, and " you will surely die."

that Kind of Fear, is a work of satan, and keeps man bound " for fear has to do with punishment" or " wrath" Jesus on the other Hand told us several times " Be not afraid for I am with you" but He also told us to " fear God" On One hand, the One who God sent to save us, and die for us, is with us....on the other Hand God has placed our sin on His beloved Son, and we will be held accountable for that sacrifice and How we respond to it. Though our sins have been forgiven, the price paid for that is beyond measure in Gods Eyes.

Both Love and accountability come through Jesus, were no longer accountable to pay our debt, but we are accountable to walk woith a clear conscience while carrying His death for us in our hearts. Hois doctrine Provides for our forgiveness now, " forgive and you will be forgiven, forgive not, and nither will my Father forgive your sins" again both Grace is there, and also the truth that brings Godly sorrow, Godly fear that keeps us walking. If we fall down, we have need to repent and call out like peter " save me Lord" , and the fear of God is very important. yet, to be afraid of Him is death

i sort of Look at it like i was raised. when i would be doing something while my dad was at work, My mom would always say " boy, you just wait till your Father gets home!" and that had impact on me, because my Dad, while Loving and very gracious, also made it clear i was to respect and obey Him or there was a harsh consequence. today it seems the pc thing is to avoid harsh punishment such as a "good ole fashioned spanking" yet today i am so glad my dad raised me to demand complete respect from me, i never in my life felt as if He didnt Love me, nor have i ever felt unloved by God, or His word, any aspect of it.

My dad today is my best friend on earth, and i cant ever remember in the last 30 years anyways, ever disobeying Him, or not Honoring His wish. when I was a child, it wasnt so natural, when i became a man, its just part of my nature to obey and respect my parents both. the Lord disciplines those He Loves, as any good parent will do, lest they impart rebellion and death as the proverbs teach us. thats How i see the fear of God, fear isnt opposed to Love, but also, i was never afraid to go to my dad for Help, i knew without a doubt, He would give His life to Keep me safe and it made Him happy to do things with me, give me gifts ect. but there were rules not meant to oppress, but to teach me how to be a man, and how to act in Life.

I see Gods way much that same way. He is not to be taken lightly as if He wont follow through with His words of warning, and He is not able to be forgotten as to His Love and Mercy because He showed it through His only Son.

Long ago I lost my temper, shouted at a co-worker and walked away. One minute later the fear of God made me turn back and apologize for that. This kind of fear is necessary if we want to have peace with God.
