scripture says we are sanctified By the word of God, the truth. Grace is an important eliment of salvation, but it eaither works in unison with the truth the word of Jesus, or it doesnt have an effect on the person. a distortion is to exalt Grace above the Word of God.

john 17:17 "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."

John 17:8 "For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me" ( reference to deuteronomy 18:18)<< should make sense why Jesus was constantly saying my words are not mine, they are His who sent me, and then in no uncertain terms repeating hear them, do them, keep them, obey them.

and again

john 15:3- Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.8Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. 9As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. 10If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

everything Jesus said , the grace, and the truth the warnings, the teachings the things He taught His disciples is what saves and sanctifies because it is the truth of the Word of God.

and whats more is if you look there in John 15 that i quoted, you will see the importance of abiding in Him, through His word. its why He constantl;y taught and then kept explaining do these things, keep my words, my words are not mine they are Gods words, my word is spirit and Life, my word is freedom from sin, you are clean through My Words...on and on he teaches it.

Grace has to be defined within His word, when you say "faith" there are works involved in faith. Grace, is not everything, Gods Word is everything , and grace is an element of salvation nothing more, nothing Less. its the access into truth that sanctifies and cleanses.

its an illusion that Grace is opposed to all the do this, keep this, and if you dont....stuff. Because certain men who write books explain grace is God, its Just a part of His character, and when grace begins insisting that truth is ommited and before anyone explains ( grace is truth) according to Jesus, the words He spoke to His disciples, His teachings His words are truth. Grace can be accepted within the scripture, or can be plucked from the rest and omit all else. theres no part of Gods word where it will omit the other, even tha Law of moses is effective part of the word, it Just has its place in things, like grace does, Like the truth of Gods Word does. its supposed to work together. not be made to oppose and contradict the rest.

There's more than just that scripture followJ. If we didn't have Holy Spirit, we wouldn't be any of those things.

The promised land is Christ Himself and living from His life while in this earth - it is NOT "gaining heaven". There are no giants to fight in heaven.

Only 2 people out of all the Israelites went into the promised land because they believed the word of the Lord - even Moses because of unbelief in God's word when he struck the rock 2 x times was not allowed to enter the promised land.

Is Moses in hell now? Of course not and yet this is what the false doctrine of losing one's salvation would tell us.

No, brethren we are safe in Christ and I encourage all of us to believe in what Christ has done for us on the cross and resurrection. Failure to trust in Christ's finished work on the cross will cause our faith to fail and we will not inherit the promises of God for us while in this life.

By all means let the unbelief the Israelites had in what God had said teach us to trust in Him for what He has provide for us in Christ.
Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.

But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ, IF we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, while it is said,
“Today if you hear His voice,
DO not harden your hearts, as when they provoked ME.”
For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. Hebrews 3:12-19

Never good to splice apart Hebrews, keep reading...

....For we which have believed do enter into rest as he said ( Hebrews 4:3) and keep reading on from there......

The author is comparing and contrasting what belief/faith and unbelief/lack of faith look like.

This is not about loosing one's salvation and it never could be because scripture plainly teaches salvation is a singular event for those who are born again which cannot be undone.

salvation is deliverance and forgiveness right? If salvation were a singular event why does Paul tell us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling?

Salvation and being born again are not the same are they? Born again is becoming a new creation and salvation is deliverance and forgiveness.

If no one says "What?..are you saying people can just go and sin all we want now because of grace?" ..if no one says that - then you are not preaching the gospel of the grace of Christ.

No one is saying to go out and sin all you want now because of grace but people should be accusing you of saying that if you are really preaching the same gospel that Paul preached. He was continuously slandered with this same accusation. In 4x times alone in Romans Paul had to come against those that were accusing Paul of being antinomian.

I have written this over 20x times on CC.

The grace of God teaches us how to live godly in this present world as Titus 2:11-12.

Sinning is stupid and against our new nature in Christ which is created in righteousness and holiness. Sinning is deceitful and will destroy us on this earth as well as those we love and ruins our witness for the Lord.

Sinning distorts our view of God, others and ourselves.

But sinning does not take away our eternal life in Christ. Our spirit is safe in Christ because we are in Him and it is His finished work that brings eternal salvation to us.

Does this make us want to go out and sin now? No, a thousand times no! It does the complete opposite. It makes us run to our Father every time we are sinning or for anything we need because Christ is our life now. He who is forgiven much loves much.

That's why I preach and teach the love and grace of God in the gospel of the grace of Christ because it is the only thing that has the power to transform our minds to work out what Christ has already done in our inner man of the men - the new creation created in righteousness and holiness.

Make no mistake about it - the gospel of the grace of Christ is scandalous and it is a stumbling block to the "sinless perfection in the flesh" belief system because they have a need to create their own self-righteousness and deny the righteousness of God which is the gospel message.

Rom. 1:16-17 "For in "it" - the gospel - the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith."

Very true the only way the word disobedient has any meaning is to imply one must also be obedient. I have been told on this site before. The Israelites that were disobedient and fell into unbelief had never truly believed trying to support the osas doctrine. But we see all these people had experienced God like none of us have ever seen and as soon as they crossed the red sea, the Israelites began to sing and praise God only later multiple times to fall into disbelief and disobedience.

I will post this again for about the 10th time in the hope that it will be a blessing to someone who is struggling in their Christian life.

Personally I am vehemently against all forms of sinning as they all bring destruction of some sort to us while on this earth - especially the one of unbelief in Christ's finished work on the cross.

I don't see any difference in sinning by living a homosexual lifestyle to having malice, bitterness, being deceitful, causing strife and divisions and the slandering of others in the body of Christ. All the works of the flesh bring about death to us in this life.

Here is my view on sin and it's affects on us and on how the Holy Spirit transforms us as we behold the glory ( goodness ) of our Lord as in a mirror. 2 Cor. 3:17-18

Sin changes our perspective on things and causes us to not look at our Father in the right light of who He truly is. ( The same as Adam and Eve did when they hid from Him even though He was still coming to visit with them and He still took care of them )

Sin also affects our ability to have harmonious relationships with others and it also distorts our view of others as well as ourselves. Sin is deceitful.

We chose to live holy lives because we are just being who we truly are in Christ - not to maintain right standing with God. This living good holy lives creates right relationships with people, it will not give our enemy an influence in our lives and it is a good witness to the world.

It reveals the true heart of our loving Father and Lord to show others in this hurt and dying world their love and grace towards them.

Your true identity is not defined by your struggles, mistakes, or sinful actions. These are all confined to the flesh and are the works of the flesh as Paul said. Who you are is defined by your new birth in Christ. You are who you are by His grace and life in you!

Behavioral issues are usually the result of trying to live under the law in some form - such as the false doctrine of "sinless perfection in the flesh" or "you will lose your salvation".

It is all self-righteousness and denies the righteousness of God in Christ. The law is the strength of sin. The law was brought in so that sin would increase and show that we need a Savior!

Once you understand you are completely accepted and sin free forever in Jesus in your inner man created in righteousness and holiness - and that this is your permanent state for all eternity in Christ - the behavioral issues will fall off of our lives like dead leaves.

The "sap" of His life in and through us transforms us outwardly by the Holy Spirit as we behold the glory ( goodness ) of the Lord Jesus as in a mirror. We see all the goodness that He has already done for us and we also see ourselves in Him as one spirit with the Lord. 2 Cor. 3:17-18

I maintain that the preaching and teaching of the love and grace of God in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ brings true righteousness which is His alone and there will be deeds of His life manifested in us if we are fed Christ Himself and His righteousness to us.

He has cleansed our hearts by faith and now we are to walk from this new heart in Christ.

As we have received Him - so we walk in Him. Col. 2:6. It is all by grace through faith in what Christ has already done.

Satan and his horde do not come to the believer in Christ and say "Sin all you want" because no one would for fall for such a lie.

Instead they come
as "ministers of righteousness".

They want us to live by our own D.I.Y. self-righteousness/holiness so that we will be not be depending on what Christ has done for us by grace through faith alone for salvation.

This cuts us off from receiving the grace of God in our lives.

2 Corinthians 11:14-15 (KJV)
[SUP]14[/SUP] And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

[SUP]15[/SUP] Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

( notice that is "their" works )

This below in 1 Peter 1:13 is what satan is really after...this is why he has false prophets/teachers in our midst.

He wants us to fall away from grace and depend on our own performance and human will-power instead of what Christ has done in His finished work on the cross and resurrection.

1 Peter 1:13
[SUP]13 [/SUP] Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

I have always found this statement hard to put in context with the rest of scripture and then I came across some work on the actual words "fear and trembling" meaning a "total self distrust or recognition of one's own weakness and inability."

In context then, it makes more sense when one looks at the next line that ..."for it is God that works in you both to will and to do for his pleasure."

So we are to continue to work out our salvation not trusting ourselves but abiding in God who will accomplish His will in us.
Again we have Paul teaching how are to be liberated from self effort and the bondage of sin to being one in Christ

Secondly...
Being born again is being saved from the bondage of sin (deliverance) and inheriting eternal life which is one and the same. It is taking on the new Adam which is Christ Jesus and having a restored fellowship with God.
Said in another way....
When we are born again we are set free from sin (saved) by the work of the cross and given Christ's righteousness so that through Him we inherit eternal life.

Just saying "saved" is not really giving the full message because people tend to read "saved" and only think that it means we will not go to hell and it really is so much more.

salvation is deliverance and forgiveness right? If salvation were a singular event why does Paul tell us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling?

Salvation and being born again are not the same are they? Born again is becoming a new creation and salvation is deliverance and forgiveness.

I agree ...God hates sin because it is destructive to a creation He loves. It brings death and separation.
Romans 6:23

Thankfully it does not end there. We have the good news that is in Christ Jesus.

Sorry, but I was not splicing.

Salvation is spoken of in scripture as I am saved, I'm being saved, and I will be saved.

Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.

Paul is speaking to brethren in the faith. He's not talking to those without Christ. He's cautioning them to continue in the faith....to not allow their hearts to become evil so as to fall away from the living God. If it's not possible, why the warning?

But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ, IF we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, while it is said,“Today if you hear His voice,
DO not harden your hearts, as when they provoked ME.”

Paul's exhorting the believers to
encourage each other each day. Why? So that they won't become hardened by sin's deceitfulness. So they won't get carried away, fall away by unbelief. That's what the deceitfulness of sin can and will do if we carry on in sin. It will harden our hearts and we'll become unfaithful.

We are partakers of Christ IF we carry on in faith. It's not a done deal. We're being saved for the rest of our life. We can jump off at any time during our lifetime.

In chapter 4 verse 3 is a continuation of chapter 3. It doesn't void what was just said. Those who continue in their faith, those who continue believing WILL enter that rest.

But not those who fall away from the living God, by not continuing in belief. Sin's deceitfulness will harden their hearts and they will fall away from faith.

Those who heed Paul's warning
persevering in faith and continuing on in their belief will enter God's rest.

There's more than just that scripture followJ. If we didn't have Holy Spirit, we wouldn't be any of those things.

how does Jesus Christ say the spirit comes to us? Not how yoU think, or what someone else said....but according to Jesus in the gospel does it have anything to do with his words and keeping them?

Jesus said "I have many things to tell you but you cannot bear them now. But the Holy Spirit when He comes - He will teach you all things and reveal the things of Me and show them unto you."

Meaning - Jesus had many other things to tell us but the disciples couldn't understand them yet - Jesus has used Paul to show what these things are by the Holy Spirit. You do not get these in the 4 gospels. The words spoken to Paul are from Jesus' words and are just as valid.

The proclamation of Christ produces the profession of Christ, but the explanation of Christ is what produces the experience of Christ.

Believers can never fully enjoy the triumph of the gospel and express Christ in this world victoriously
until there has been an explanation and exposition of the vivid details of the redemptive work of Christ that has gained a foothold in our renewed minds.

The 4 gospels were eyewitness accounts of the historical events in the life and ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christianity is based on the veracity of these events as having occurred in real time, in all historicity and specificity.

Nevertheless it is the unveiling of the spiritual realities of these events that relates to the believer in Christ. This is found in the revelation that the Lord Jesus Christ gave to the apostle Paul.

The 4 gospels are the proclamation of the gospel. They disclose to us what men saw. Acts of the apostles is the demonstration of the gospel, but it is Paul's letters which give us an explanation of the gospel. It is the Pauline Epistles that are the constitution of this church age.

Paul's epistles explain what happened from the cross, death, burial, quickening and resurrection to the being seated at the right hand of the Father. Without these epistles we would have no idea what Jesus our Lord actually accomplished for us.

Paul was taught by Jesus Christ Himself to explain His gospel = to reveal the mystery that was hidden in God until it was revealed by Christ to Paul. The mystery being Christ Himself and the riches of that glory is that Christ is in us and we are in union with Him as one spirit!

These "explanations" of the mystery of the gospel that Christ is in us - cannot be found openly in the 4 gospels themselves. We need to marry the things Paul said with the words of Jesus in the 4 gospels.

It is in Paul's explanation of the gospel that Christ is in us - the hope of glory where we find the nutrients to walk by the spirit.

This passage is not about being born again/salvation that part has been done.

Being born again is a work that God accomplishes in us, the writer is not teaching to stay born again, the writer is saying now that you are born again it is time to walk in the newness of that life and to stay focused on Jesus. Our heart can fall away from God but we cannot leave our standing as redeemed. We are born again by accepting and believing upon God's payment in full for our sins once we accept payment the transaction is completed. We are redeemed by Christ's work not our own and that is why we cannot loose our eternal life.

It is very important to separate out being born again a finished decree by God and then living in that newness of life that God has given us.

This is what the author is exhorting... to not fall away from being a disciple (learner) and resist the work of God in their lives and go back to the old ways of Jewish traditions. It is about discipleship learning who Jesus is....one has to want to learn about Jesus.

Scripture can only be understood within the finished work of Christ.

Hi Undergrace,

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Be careful though. You're changing a clear teaching by Paul as a warning to the church that they are partakers in Christ, but only IF they continue on in faith. It's a dire warning that we can fall away from the living God.

We can't fall away from something we never had.

Desertsrose,

Let me put it this way with regards to salvation/born again.

When you accept Jesus as Saviour and believe in His finished work on the cross for you by faith then you are declared Innocent because the debt has been paid in full.

If the Judge has declared you INNOCENT of all crimes past, present and future based on the

acceptance by you of the payment of the debt, and the debt is indeed paid, how do you in

your free will undo the declaration of the Judge?

Unless perhaps you do not believe the Judge or you have not accepted the payment for yourself?

Think about it ...it is all done.... you will be blessed when you believe and see this!

See everything is dependent on faith. We live and move and having our being in Jesus through our
faith.

Jesus forgives all of our past sin and dumps them in the ocean of His love. As far as the east is from the west, so He has removed our transgressions from us.

But todays sins and tomorrows sin have to be confessed. They are not already forgiven. He promises to forgive us, but they are not forgiven yet.
