I have a serious question and would appreciate your input

is christianity simply about what Jesus did in dying on the cross?

or is it about Jesus the Christ, the Only begotten Son of God ?

if saying i believe then means you can never possibly sin again.....does that mean a liar or a cheater isnt reallysinning because we have a scapegoat now for the things we do that we Know are in opposition to what is right? and the " cross just excuses that? im having some major problems understanding the whole finished work of the cross doctrine, i cant seem to really find the things people say about it in scripture.

if someone actually can explain that to me, and show the scriptures that change everything in the gospel that Jesus explained clearly, i would like to see that so that i can understand. as you may percieve this to be disingenious, it isnt, i just am having trouble finding it in scripture and How it reconciles to the rest of scripture. things like " where are we told anything different than Jesus explaining the things of God? and How does His death promised long ago, change the rest. Im sincerely not sure im getting it, because i have a very different understanding of the crucifixion than it seems most do.

so bros n sissys if you have a good grasp on this " finished work of the cross doctrine" and have scriptural support, please leave some words that may help me understand what im missing.

God Bless you in the things of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ !

Surely Paul in the Epistle to the Romans explains it!
And in his Epistle to the Galatians he clearly explains the consequences of not understanding the real message of the cross.

I've got to say that I am a bit reticent about answering here because in another thread you tried to blow me out of the water by claiming how self-evident the Bible is and how "long explanations" are not necessary.
I did accept your apology, but here you are apparently asking for help in understanding what to me is a fundamental doctrine of Christianity, and so I don't really understand how your claims in that other thread can stand with what you are asking now.

Sorry for any misunderstandings I may have to your thread in advance as I am not sure if I understand what your question is exactly.

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." (2Tim 3:16)

Also the Greek word for the English words "fulfilled and finished" is the same word (G4134)
ληρόω
plēroō
play-ro'-o
From G4134; to make replete, that is, (literally) to cram (a net), level up (a hollow), or (figuratively) to furnish (or imbue, diffuse, influence), satisfy, execute (an office), finish (a period or task), verify (or coincide with a prediction), etc.: - accomplish, X after, (be) complete, end, expire, fill (up), fulfil, (be, make) full (come), fully preach, perfect, supply.

There are many scriptures in the Word of God in the old testament prophecies about the work of Jesus that were fulfilled at the cross (see all Isa 53, Much of the ceremonial laws feasts days etc that pointed to Jesus see Leviticus 16-19)

""He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not."

""Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted."

""But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

""All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."

"He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opens not his mouth."

"He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken."

"And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death;8 because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth."

"Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand."

"He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities."

"Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."
(Isa 53:1-12)

"I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me. (John 3:18)

"After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst."
(John 19:28) etc etc etc....

So in one sense fulfilled or finished can refer to the fulfillment of a prophecy of scripture of the work of Christ and His life as our Savior, our great sacrifice for our sins as the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world prior to moving into the Heavenly Sanctuary as our great High Priest and in another sense the finishing of the first phase of His work here on earth as our sacrifice for sin.

"The next day John sees Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." (John 1:29)

"Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession." (Heb 4:14; see also Heb 9:1-14 etc)

"When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost." (John 19:30)

Hope this helps and is what you are asking? God bless you!

Christ's finished work of redemption is sufficient and complete to save believers. No supplements needed.

I will be brief as I am in the transition of a move and no longer have a pc.

The Cross is viewed incorrectly by many as a substitution, whilst it ought be viewed in the context of covenant and example.

True redemption is found through partaking in the Cross, not simply trusting in it.

Jesus did not pay any sin debt nor satisfy any wrath. Jesus died to establish the New Covenant through which our conscience could be purged of dead works that we may serve the living God.

Redemptiin is found through having the love of God shed abroad in our hearts, the law written in our mind and upon our heart. Thus we come into union with God through the Spirit, purged and purified, saved from evil itself.

Substitution destroys redemption because it undermines the purging and purifying by replacing it with an abstract legsl adjustment which people are compelled to trust in. Nothing takes place in the heart which why substitution and ongoing sin go together. Under substitution the law is never written upon the heart and thus there is no real deliverance from sin.

I go into grwater detail on this subject on my youtube channel, edpecislly in the last three videos.

It is a reference to this :
30 [FONT=&quot]So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, [/FONT][FONT=&quot]“It is finished!”[/FONT][FONT=&quot] And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 19:30.

It is also reference to doctrines which teach that Jesus Christ did all the work on the cross, by suffering and shedding His blood, that is necessary for our salvation. Human beings cannot add to this finished work of the cross[/FONT]

Amen.....Christ is the Alpha and Omega. - the Aleph and Tav of all things.

Ephesians 1:7 (NASB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

In Him we have it all - and it is according to the riches of His grace.

Colossians 1:14 (KJV)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Hebrews 9:12 (NASB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

1 Corinthians 1:30-31 (NASB)
[SUP]30 [/SUP] But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,

[SUP]31 [/SUP] so that, just as it is written, "LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD."

So, we boast in the Lord's finished work on the cross and resurrection to obtain eternal redemption for all who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

a. Paul said if he was going to glory he would glory in the cross of Christ
b. When Jesus said it is finished<--legal term PAID IN FULL

MANY deny the fact that the sin debt has been forever settled and is no longer an issue....the issue is now FAITH into that finished work as sufficient for eternal redemption (buy back)

The workers for and sinless perfectionists reject the finished work of Christ on the cross and the legal term Paid in FULL. They still.

a. Interject self and the false, feeble attempt by works to help Jesus complete the work and save themselves or keep themselves saved and or...
b. State that if one sins they must not be saved and or have lost that which is not losable......

IT IS FINISHED!

Amen...make no mistake about it - there is an all out war on the gospel of the grace of God in Christ's finished work on the cross and in His resurrection and the truth that we too have died with Him and have risen to newness of life.

If the enemy can get us to rely on ourselves - it nullifies the very grace of God that is in Christ alone from operating like it was meant to in order to effect real transformation by the Holy Spirit as we behold the glory/goodness of the Lord as in a mirror. 2 Cor. 3:17-18.

Are you implying that Christ's finished work of redemption (death, burial, resurrection) is insufficient and incomplete to save believers?

Oh I agree......and Satan is slick.....his minions come up with terms, phrases, lies and deceit to undermine the positioning of grace afforded to a believer.....all while interjecting self into the equation.......

Just before Jesus gave up His spirit to His heavenly father He said "It is finished."

Christianity is about taking up our cross daily and following Jesus Christ. Jesus died once for all- all in the past who obeyed God, and all in the future who would obey God. Their obedience didn't earn Christ's blood (which is grace), but the obedient are the group of people He chooses to give that gift to.

What was finished on the cross was Christ's part- to perfectly complete the Old Law (physical covenant), and nail it to the cross. And to purchase His church (spiritual covenant) with His blood. And to provide the opportunity for all to be saved. (Whosoever will). This was His part. His part does not leave us with no part.

Once saved we need to remain saved. Christ's blood only covers us if we are trying not to sin. But the Bible says "If we sin willfully there no longer remains a sacrifice for our sins." (No longer means it once genuinely did). If we sin willfully we are no longer in Christ, no longer have a scape goat, and only those in Christ will be saved. If you are in Christ all your sins are washed away, but we must obey God continuously until we die.

If we leave God by sinning willfully, we are as the prodigal son. If we come back to the Father before we die, we will be back to a saved state of being. When the prodigal returned to his father, his father said "My son was dead, but now he is alive." The son did not die physically- so this is speaking of spiritual death and spiritual life.

is christianity simply about what Jesus did in dying on the cross?

or is it about Jesus the Christ, the Only begotten Son of God ?
It is about both. It is because as the only begotten Son of God He bore our sins in His own body on the tree, and then rose again from the dead both to declare His work was finished (Rom 4.25) and that the Father was satisfied with what He had done, that we can be saved through Him.

if saying i believe then means you can never possibly sin again...
No, but it mean that that you have a Savior from sin (John 3.16).

..does that mean a liar or a cheater isnt reallysinning because we have a scapegoat now for the things we do that we Know are in opposition to what is right?
As Paul said, God forbid! (Rom 6.1) How shall they who are dead to sin go on living any longer therein. Because of what He has done we want to please Him.

and the " cross just excuses that?
The cross never excuses that. We are being saved as a result of the cross being the power of God, not as a result of it being an excuse maker (1 Cor 1.18) .

Im having some major problems understanding the whole finished work of the cross doctrine, i cant seem to really find the things people say about it in scripture.
It is the finished work because He paid the price for our sins, but not so as to excuse them (Mark 10.45).

if someone actually can explain that to me, and show the scriptures that change everything in the gospel that Jesus explained clearly, i would like to see that so that i can understand.
He pays the price of sin and DELIVERS US from sin through His cross (1 Cor 1.18). But He wants us to be done with sin in so far as we are able. However He recognises our weakness, and His shed blood goes on cleansing us from all sin, as long as we walk in His light (1 John 1.7).

There are some questions God does not answer

What do you have faith in?

The work of the Lord or your own work?

If you have faith in your work then you either haven't been saved or you just don't understand salvation.

Salvation is by Grace through Faith and not of works, lest any boast.

Amen! Either we are saved by trusting or else we are saved by trying. Either Christ did it all or else we did some of it. People can't have it both ways.

Agreed,
The cross is the starting point, not the finishing point.

Jesus exclaimed the deliverance and forgiveness of SIN was finished on the cross.

We strand millions at the cross, that get mental assent they are "saved", but until you make the decision to get on the cross with Jesus, nothing changes.

Dying to self is the greatest obstacle to salvation and being born again. You cannot be be born again until you have died with Christ and risen into new life with him

Most will argue this right out of their way, but the fact remains, you cannot be a new creature until you die.
