I agree that knowing the Bible allows you to discern good and evil. However without the Holy Spirit, the bible doesn't make sense. It is veiled.

Yes and that very choice is the only way to allow God to work in us.

Good works come from faith in God who calls us to do the works he planned.

(Grace) by faith=obedience. Romans 5:2New International Version (NIV)

2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we[a] boast in the hope of the glory of God.

If obedience is lacking then your relationship with God is lacking. Immature faith is dangerous. Its very dangerous for one to stay immature in faith. God wont force obedience on no one. God wont force his gift on no one.
right, and that to me is an important part of the "cross" to Know what Jesus did for us, how greatly he suffered to bring us to God, should win our hearts to God and create a willngness to surrender our will, to His. His will is very simply in His words and to Know His will...

romans 12:1-2 "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

paul says so much about our service such as this, that its just so unbelievable how a do nothing doctrine became so popular and accepted. the osas belief, there are so many things that show us what to do and how to do it, yet the idea is " do nothing just rest in the cross" truly i thought i had missed something but im thinking the corss was what i knew at 5 yrs old " Jesus died for my sins" maybe just me, but because He died for my sins, that means i owe Him my life. and will not take my hand from the plow until i cant lift it anymore, to honor Jesus for the price paid for my life

Resting in Christ doesn't mean to do nothing...I think you mis understand the phrase.

I believe in both the "finished work of Christ in the cross" and "resting in Christ" as biblically sound doctrines.

For sure...reward for faithfulness and loss of reward for unfaithfulness......1st Corinthians 3
romans 2:6-11 "Who will render to every man according to his deeds:7To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 8But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11For there is no respect of persons with God.

seems the reward is pretty plainly eternal Life. like Jesus says in matthew 25, like paul says in galatians 6

galatians 6:7-9 "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

its not pleasant, but its not to be ommited when ots so plain. its not as if God is gonna pay us a wage some will have alot of possessions and others wont. its about the Kingdom, Life eternal. our place is to walk in what we know of Jesus and thus keep our conscience clear. if we mess up, repent and follow the forgiveness thats readily available in His gospel. forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

Psalm 4
8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley,I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORDforever.

Matthew 11
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Rest for our soul does not equal do nothing....it means taking His yoke and doing His good works for His glory.

It means peace and joy only God can give.

Resting in Christ means not striving to earn God's love but having faith and accepting that God really does love you and nothing you DO can make Him love you more or less. He adopted you and you really are His kid.

Trusting in the finished work of the cross is having faith that what Jesus did was enough to wash you clean of your sins and allow you to be adopted by God through His Holy spirit.

naw ive had nearly a year seeing when one says " we need to obey Gods word" and others come with " thats works and your trying to save yourself" ive heard a hundred different reasons why the 4 gospels just arent the gospel. its definately not a real doctrine is the thing. rest in Jesus is found in following Him. in doing the word, we find rest for our souls. to take his yoke upon us, because he has proven His Love, we surrender to His will. we owe Jesus all we have, because He gave all He was for us. we were bought at the highest of all prices, the suffering and death of the Son of God.

be doesrs of the word, is where rest is found. it doesnt mean its effortless, its hard at times to do whats right, but thats the way and it gets easier as we go. but always hell give us another goal to press toward. all we have to do is take His yoke thats light and burden thats easy and accept it, to find rest because His word gives strength as we accept it

Plowing land aint no joke either. I know it worse for them back then but even the small walk behind plows today are a workout.

Luke 9:62New International Version (NIV)

62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

We must count the cost before starting to plow. Yes it will be a workout but the end results are worth oh so much more.

Luke 14:27-35New International Version (NIV)

27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.

34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.

“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

lol so where do those scriptures fit? isnt that paul saying that?

romans 2:6-11 "Who will render to every man according to his deeds:7To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 8But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11For there is no respect of persons with God.

seems like it kind of is really straight forward, written to the church at rome, by paul lol i think thats where the idea of either accepting, or rejecting comes in

not just the bible the gospel. that has to be our foundation, because thats where Jesus explains the holyghost comes through His words. gotta believe the word, and the=ats where the holy ghost comes to us from. and like your saying, then we can discern the truth, but its also worth recognizing that Jesus says the holy ghost will always bring His words to our remembrance.

It can also mean to trust with assurance. The crucifixion was the final blow to all that prohibited a relationship with God. The resurrection is the testament that the sacrifice was perfect and excepted and the full price was paid. The Vail was torn. All things become new.

yea its definately not easy all the time. to me its like excercise when you start your first 2 weeks, its hard, you dont wanna always go, but then the third and forth week. your body feels better, your muscles have more strength, your endurance is clearly improving. so then after a month or so you see the benifits and then you start increasing the weights, or the distance of your run.

sort of how i see it with the gospel. say a person is greedy with money doesnt like giving to the needy. once you see Jesus teaching that, the sanme who died for you. and see Him saying dont hear my words but do them and you will be blessed.

then you reach a point when you are praying because you have seen that you have an issue giving to those who really need it. once you take that step of faith, something happens in you, it doesnt hurt like you thought it would, because you realize " hey thois person really needs that food i got them, or this single mother really needs me to pay that bill i paid. you realize that its Love that is motivating you, and then realize hey Jesus is teaching me how to really Love freely, and this money i store up.......its value is worth alot when i use it His way because th=at single mother was praying for Help, and the Lord put that in my heart through His words......it becomes easier the more practice, and then becomes something that is a joy and you find yourself excited to meet needs and talk about the Lord with the peerson. you also see more receptive people when you are showing the Love taught in the gospel and not preaching at them but not willing to offer rreal help.

God meets needs through our willingness to follow His word. money is just one example...

For the greasy gracer
(the false convert) yes. He believes that Jesus’ sacrifice was his license to sin (Jud 4).
He’s never known God (Mt 7:23).
To mock the grace of God by calling it greasy is a rather serious charge against God's grace. All grace comes from God therefore there is no such thing as greasy grace. This is actually the same problem Paul encountered.

Your accusation of grace being a License to sin is distorted reasoning, it is basically saying let us do evil that good may come.

Paul had lot to say about people who defamed that message of grace.

Roman 8:3 Why not say, as some slanderously claim that we say,“ - Let us do evil that good may result?” Their condemnation is deserved!

To avoid the truth of grace or defame the message by saying that it may give a person the right to sin is to support the truth which is opposite of grace – then you are teaching that the law justifies.

This is unbelief in the finished work of Jesus.

Read what Paul says about those who do such…….their condemnation is deserved!

I would think twice about mocking the grace of God.

ive asked for someone to share those scriptures, someone with a level head willing to share them with me, but not srtray from the scriptures, will you take the time to share those with me? because truly this thread began with the thought i had missed something, but i dont see it in any of the other comments honestly.

i seem to be able to discuss cordially with you, and respect what you have to say, so when you have time, please do add those scriptures about the rest in the finished work of the cross, and i agree there isnt a do nothing doctrine that has any truth to it.

isnt it ours to repent and follow the word though? because of what He did ?

I can try but I don't understand what your question is....

I can't speak for others but I can tell you what it means when I hear those phrases and what the Bible shows us about them.
