I am wondering why a lot of Christians get stressed when Islam comes up - unlike Buddhism, Mormonism, etc etc
There might be lots of reasons for this, but it occurs to me that a lot of people have a works based mentality when it comes to evangelizing. They think they have to win the argument. Because Islam is a heavily theological and Scripture based religion, are people frightened of going head to head with it?
They are? I have not seen this in my personal life : p Islam is generally pretty easy to argue.
According to the quran, the word of allah cannot be changed-
Quran 18:27 "And recite what has been revealed to you of the book of your lord, there is none who can alter his words; and you shall not find any refuge besides him"
And the quran also tells us that the torah and Gospel are from allah as well-
Quran 3:3-4 "He has revealed to you the book with truth, verifying that which is before it, and he revealed the torah and the Gosple aforetime, a guidance for mankind, and he revealed the criterion."
AND the quran even tells Christians to judge the quran against the Gospel-
Quran 5:47 "Let the people of the Gospel judge by what allah hath reveled therein. If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what allah hath revealed, they are (no better than) those who rebel."
So, if a Christian does this, they will find verses from Jesus like this-
John 8:58
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”
From Matthew 20:28- "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Matthew 28:9
And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.
Matthew 28:18
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Matthew 3:16-17
And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
John 6:39-40
And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
Matthew 14:33
And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
If we compare these teachings to whats written in the quran, we get this-
Quran 5:75 "Christ the son of Mary was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers who passed away before him"
Quran 4:171 "O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs."
Quran 4:157-158 That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-
Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise
Therefore, after comparing the two, we can see that the quran goes entirely against the Gospel, that Muhammad did not know the Gospel when he made those commands to judge by the Gospel, and that he was a false prophet : p
Im a big advocate of proving how Muhammad was a false prophet. Muslims know the Gospel, as Islam exists to deny it. They believe that Christians are deceived and foolish, who are merely taking a prophet and making him into a god. Of course we should stand by the Gospel, but taking the time to learn about Islam, and prove that Muhammad did not know what he was teaching, will definitely help them feel more comfortable with stepping away from Muhammads teachings.
And the only Christians whod be afraid to talk with a Muslim would be one who doesnt really know the Bible so well, and not very confident in their faith, Id imagine. Jesus own words make it clear, He is far more than a prophet, and He came to give His life in exchange for our sins. There is no denying it in the Gospel other than claiming "the Gospel has been corrupted", which of course is not what the quran tells us.
