Shame on you!
Another one verse wonder...
Try putting this in context for a start:
5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. 1 John 1:5-10
vs 8-10 provides the full context - read it and understand!
If you are claiming sinlessness then I am afraid you are the one walking in darkness!
In fact, the reality that we sin DOES NOT EQUAL walking in darkness!
If it did then vs 5-10 are hopelessly contradictory.
verse 7 is the hub around which the whole text revolves:
Walking in darkness allows one to HIDE, firstly from our own sin, and secondly from God (not really possible, but some try...), however walking in the light IS NOT A METAPHOR FOR SINLESSNESS, but rather exposing ourselves to God, warts and all!
Stand in the light, let it expose you for what you are, let the light expose your sin - confess it as required - and move on in God.
Walking in darkness is not about sin per se, it is all about hiding from God, avoiding reality!
Walking in the light is all about exposing oneself to God, letting Him actually see you for what you are (in fact God already knows, but we need to take that step of faith) and letting Him lovingly correct and mature you!
DENYING SIN AND SINFULNESS PLACES ONE AS FIRMLY WALKING IN DARKNESS...

Shame on me for claiming to abide in Him? No, shame anyone who claims to abide in Him and not walking as He walked (without sin)
