how about some Balut, doesn't this look delicious, please excuse me if you live in the Philippines, but I don't think I could eat this at all.

Yea that's what I said, a friend at work who is from the Philippines told me some folks bury the Balut for days to get it nice and rotten adds to the flavor. Ugggg

Not sure if the more it's rotten the more it's better statement is really true but any case, it doesn't look appetizing to me.
 
I think the Finnish folk have some kind of buried dish as well,
but that... is just disturbing

While I'm not from the Philippines or anything...Looks delicious to me and yeah the more rotten the better...It goes really good with cooked cabbage...lol

Yea with a side dish of monkey brains. this vid is just plain sick, warning it has graphic scene in it to say the least.

I imagine it would if based on superstition, or if people think it has
magical properties.

Then there is the travesty of animals been killed for powdered rhino horn
for example, or birds nest soup etc.
 
I miss steak and ale pie-Not strange food, but there is no such thing around here,
and I just know I could never make a pie... it would turn all mushy on me :p
 
Head cheese- it's actually not THAT weird. It is a hog's head meat that has been boiled and made into a spread. It's also called souse. It's very good if you like pork. Bacony (in my opinion) and good on crackers. I guess head cheese is the ancestor of Spam. Head Cheese
