Ingredients:
250 grams black sticky rice (not regular black rice)
about 2000 grams water
5 Tbsp sugar (more or less)
2 pcs pandan leaves (optional)

sauce:
coconut milk+a pinch of salt+pandan leaves OR vanilla extract --> boiled and set aside
(i'm using fresh coconut milk and make it more thinner, but you can use store bought as well and dilute with a bit of water+pinch of salt+vanilla extract/pandan leaves and boiled.. or if you like it creamy just use it without mixing with water, but boiled it still with a pinch of salt and vanilla extract or pandan leaves)

Direction:
1. clean black sticky rice, soak for 2 hours
2. boiled until its soft with 2000 grams of water (keep stirring so it wont burnt on the bottom)
3. add sugar, pandan leaves and keep stirring until its soft
4. turn off the heat, let it set for about 45 minutes
5. can be serve hot or cold with coconut sauce

I love porridge,

I have used spelt, barley and other grains...

but never any kind of rice.

Thanks for the post!! :)

I just watched a vid on how to make green split pea porridge,

I guess the options are endless.

Hi Mochi,

I don't think I've ever seen black sticky rice here. I guess we could do this with white sticky rice, yes? :)

just an FYI... you can order it from Amazon. (what can't you get from Amazon?! haha)

i know i've seen it there, but don't know whether it's good quality? it's called Thai purple rice by some vendors, so you know.

:)

you're welcome!
Those fruits will be perfect for Thai dessert: mango sticky rice.. not this porridge :)
sometimes we add a bit of jackfruit for taste and fragrant.. but mostly we left it like that ;)

lol.. i think you can!
but not candevish one! it has to be others type banana.. errr kepok banana or raja banana (no idea in english! lol)
but you have to slice it and boiled it with coconut milk and palm sugar! (too much effort) lol

black sticky rice has special taste.. so without fruits is the best for me!!

if you want to add fruits for topping, try rice pudding from rice flour (bubur sumsum) ;)
its super silky and yummy ;)
