Sometimes things just aren't that important. I think we have to choose
our battles carefully, often we are bad at that, so we fight every battle instead.
We should also consider the worth of each battle, a hard thing to do in the heat
of the moment. It's something I've had to do a lot over the last few years and
I've had to learn to turn the other cheek, instead of wading into the battle.
Jesus picked his battles carefully. He never uttered a word in his own defence for he
knew what his destiny was. He knew about the sacrifice on the cross. He also rebuked
Peter for getting into a battle that wasn't his, when he cut the soldiers ear off.
Yet Jesus did get into battles when needed and asserted himself. He over turned the
tables of the money changers in the temple. He gently rebuked the people for critising
the woman who poured perfume on his feet.
He really did wade into battle where the Pharisees were concerned, as they were
leading people astray. He didn't fight his own battles, he fought battles on behalf
of other people. He was assertive on behalf of others.
Maybe we should learn to do the same, let God fight on our behalf, but act on behalf
of others.
Micah 6:8 NKJV
[8] He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of
you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
