I'm not big on natural health stuff. I'd rather take an aspirin for a headache then get into compresses and willow bark.

That said, to explain how desperate I am. I've tried everything for my itchy ear -- H2O2, anti-fungal creams, prescriptions, withc hazel, vinegar, not scratching it, not using Q-tips for two months. As it stands now, doctors keep repeating what didn't work before.

It's been itching on and off, (more on, than off) for 15 years now. And it's not just the ear. The itch goes halfway down my neck quite often. As it stands now, I'm seriously considering having the nerves for my ear removed. No feeling, no itch. It wakes me up in the middle of the night. I miss a lot of TV shows and conversation because wiggling your finger that hard on your ear, (the itch is too deep to scratch) stops me from hearing out of that ear.

Any ideas? And, please, still not going to buy something or do something because there is an ad-site giving "sound-advice" to sell their real product. (If you're going to give me a link, make sure the link isn't just a very long advertisement to sell something.)

well Lynn, I can tell you this for a fact, if you have 'fillings' they can be a cause -
if you don't have them, then who knows how many reasons there could be?

for myself, and I have had to convince Hub, and it 'worked for him' because he was afraid of the effects.
I have always had ear problems of some sort since a child, and until I discovered that I could actually
put alcohol or peroxide, warmed into my ears soaked on some cotton, 'this is what has helped me
the most...also, I will put some TeaTree oil on a cue-tip and rub it around and I will get a
lot of relief from this...hope at least one of these will help you sweetheart...

by the way, the alcohol and the peroxide do NOT HURT the inside of the ear, but just warm them a little...
if you try the peroxide, when you fill up your ear with it, after soaking it with cotton,
you have to just lay on your side and WAIT until all of the bubbles stop, that means that they have
hopefully done the job...:) we pray this will help you in some way!:)

Yup. I've even waited for the bubbles to stop. Doesn't hurt, but doesn't help.

Pinched nerves cause itching?

Part of me is saying, "Cool! It beats pain." Part of me is saying, "Ut-oh! Can't be fixed either."

Hi Depleted...Not sure if this info will help, hope it does...

Itchy Ears. ... For some people the problem is so bad that they stick various objects into the ears, causing trauma to the ear canal. The most common causes ofitching are a nervous habit, fungal infection or the beginning of an infection. Other causes can be skin diseases such as psoriasis or dermatitis....I know that psoriasis can flare up over body as i have that sometimes on my fingers or knees, you could possible have it in your ear in your canal which is deep in side...xox...

Hullo. If it's a fungal infection like rose says, you may have to repeat the process. I know we talked abt this before but not remember the details. That is, did you do the h2o2 for a few days and see any difference to doing just a day or two? Sure hope you go past the irritating occurrences. God bless.

I've used anti-fungals for 6-12 weeks. If there is fungus among us, it's an untreatable kind.

Nervous habit is pulling my hair behind my ears. (None gets in, because that tickles too much, and both ears, so if that affected the inner ear, both ears ought to itch.)

And dang inconvenient place to have a skin condition! :eek:

Anyway of stopping that?

I've repeated. If I put all those times together into just once, I've done it for about two years.

I'm afraid of using H2O2 more often than 2-3 times in a row, because I know someone who got thrush from using it longer.

And pretty sure this is the first time I'm mentioning it, because I've been doing what doctors have told me to for the last 5-6 years. Considering I've gone to at least 6 different doctors, I kept thinking one of them could come up with a solution.

If its due to psoriasis or dry skin in the ear, you can try taking B complex vitamins and eating yogurt. It won't hurt to try.

I was going to also suggest 90% alcohol. It might sting a little so just put a drop just inside the ear canal as a test before you put a drop into your ear. That is what swimmers use to get water out of the ears but it also will kill any bacteria or fungus in there...and it will dissolve wax too. I hope you get it sorted out.

Hi Depleted...I would not personally use anything to put in your ear untill you go to the doctor and have appointment with the ENT unit so they can look deep into your ear canal and see what is going on...You have to be very careful when dealing with your ear because it is so sensitive and pouring things in their for a quick relief will not ease the problem...They may want to wash the canal out, take a swab and then will you be able to find out what bacteria is going on and treat it then correctly...Dermatitis is usually flaky and you would get bits of dead skin coming up from your ears canal, but psoriasis is little bumps of swelling that itch and then they scale over causing like a scar tissue and the itch feels un itch able...The flare up can last for days/weeks and then returns in the same place, hope this helps...xox...

My Dr. prescribed Fluocinolone Acetonide Topical Solution 0.01% for the itch
and Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream 0.1% for the cause of the itch.
He also told me to knock off filling my ear with hydrogen peroxide and waiting for the bubbles to stop
before pulling the plug and draining it.

when my ears itch, I put on rubbing alcohol on the itch and it usually works quickly

Can't do yogurt. Lactose Intolerant. But, I do take vitamins every day, including B12 every morning and B-complex every morning and evening.

(I hope I don't get the healthy-lifestyle rep now. lol)

Is another word for "90% alcohol" witch hazel? Or am I supposed to find some moonshine? lol

I've been to doctors, including ENT doctors about this. I know how to spell clotrimazole because I'm keeping the stuff that didn't work. (That's what the latest ENT gave me, and I used it for six weeks.) No flakes coming out. No bumps (as far as I can feel.) No wax build up. Strangely, the itchy ear has less wax than the not-itchy ear. It is, however always damp.

When I was a kid the first sign of an ear infection was ooze dripping out. (The last time, I was 17 and it hit in the middle of the night. I didn't want to wake up Dad, so I used tissues until 6 AM. I went through 3/5ths of a box of tissues. That bad.) Back then they had to drain the infection behind the ear drum and put tubes in. This feels like the same ooze, but it hasn't built up behind my eardrum so badly that it pops the drum and oozes out. (Always either popped or dislodge the ear drum too when I was young.) And, as I've said 15 years of this and going to doctors but I still have it.

When I was young, mothers had to wash baby bottles and nipples. They had a special brush for the nipples. Like bristly bottle brushes today, but in miniature. It would fit perfectly in my ear, and the itching is so bad, I often imagine using one of those until there was no skin left to itch.

Very frustrating when doctors just hand out product after product that doesn't work or dismiss it like, "oh well."

Man! Your ear must itch often if you can spell out those words. :eek:

The first one did work. Unfortunately, you're right. It stops the itch, but only as long as you use it.

I think you might be on to something. If only I can get my doctor to listen. (Last time, we talked about three things, and although she did explain why she couldn't help me with one problem, we both forgot about doing something about the other two. One of the other two was itchy ear.)

How long does itch-free last for you?

And, really? You plugged in the hydrogen peroxide? The bubbles are making some kind of gas, so it has to go somewhere. I always kept it unplugged to give the gas an out. (Tilted head sideways.)

Hi Depleted...Have you ever had your inner ear washed right down to the canal...The reason i say this is because if you have a bacteria inside , the ear drops etc whatever you are using or have used may still not be clearing the debris away so it remains alive...My sister use to be a great knitter, and every now and then i would catch her guiding that long knitting needle into her ear to relieve the itch lol, please note i am not suggesting you go and get a knitting needle:D...xox...
