Well, you say a lot asinine things, so the above would be no different. You're consistent like that.

Have you provided any more Gill quotes that support your works gospel and loss of salvation heresy, or are you ready to own that Gill is OSAS and you misunderstood him?

You know, own your huge mistake publicly? Like a man? :D
I mentioned this before in my posts, how that some of that group will pour over your writings with a microscope, looking for the slightest flaw or crack in their writings or their armor.

Their purpose is to find a weak spot so they can take a hammer & chisel to it to break through.

They don't want to fix what they think is the problem, they want to destroy it.

This is why p4t is so focused on this one thing..... he wants to demolish someone's reputation.

As you can see, he's enjoying what he's doing.

So, what spirit is he of?

That's not the Holy Ghost speaking.

Those who use Satan's tools regularily know their way around his workshop, wouldn't you say?

I mentioned this before in my posts, how that some of that group will pour over your writings with a microscope, looking for the slightest flaw or crack in their writings or their armor.

Your mistake wasn't slight, and there was no pouring over it to find the glaring flaw.

The fact you cannot accept correction and own your mistake is a commentary on you.

You quoted Gill among others as if what they said supported your false gospel of loss of salvation. None of them believe your teachings, and are in fact against them.

I called you on the fact that you were misusing them, in total ignorance. Gill is Reformed, believes in the biblical doctrine of perseverance of the saints (osas) and you quoted him as if he didn't.

Nothing he said was what you thought it said which isn't surprising.

You cannot accept that, you will not accept correction. If you think that is a tool of Satan, it just shows how prideful you are and how out of touch you are and that you will accuse people of anything, no holds barred for you, you go right ahead and say people are satanic merely because your errors are pointed out.

But go ahead, call others and myself these things, don't accept correction or man up. Be you; slander, cover up, bear false witness on others, preach your false gospel, pretend commentaries back you when they don't, then call names when you are exposed.

The prodigal was reconciled to his father, but the elder
was not, being too entrenched in his sense of entitlement...

Like many in here that are entrenched in their sense of entitlement that a one-time belief in Christ will save them no matter what the do, live, or believe after that.

A sense of entitlement that they can disobey, rebel, or do absolutely nothing.

Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would be with you and in you forever. Now, is Jesus a liar?
No, but you are.

By constantly misusing & abusing the Bible for your own personal gain.

John 14

An interesting fact about Abraham being declared righteous by God Himself is that he was declared to be righteous by God because Abraham "believed God " - 15 years before he "offered up Isaac".

His faith was completed as a result of already being declared righteous by God.

Knowing the truth about what God says about us releases true faith to grow and be manifested. There is a false way of trying to create works in order to create and maintain righteousness. This is eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

True righteousness which comes only from God's work in Christ always comes when we believe what God says is true. There are "fruits of righteousness" as James talks about which shows up in helping our fellow man in need but they do not create righteousness.

Being righteous in Christ comes first because of His work on the cross and resurrection. Getting this backwards creates a religion of self-righteousness and actually denies the work of Christ Himself.

Preach and teach the good news that Christ alone is our righteousness and then the fruit of His life will be manifested in "deeds of righteousness" as He bears His fruit in and through us to a hurt and dying world that needs to see the love and grace that our loving Father has for them.

We will then see corresponding action or works that glorify God as the fruit of His life is manifested in and through us.
"Being righteous in Christ comes first because of His work on the cross and resurrection. Getting this backwards creates a religion of self-righteousness and actually denies the work of Christ Himself."

CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT EXACTLY IS “CHRIST'S FINISHED WORK ON THE CROSS”?

CAN YOU DIFFERENTIATE JUSTIFICATION FROM SALVATION?

I’LL APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSE. THANKS

Hebrews 12:14 (NASB) - Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord. Those who are sanctified have been set apart/made holy.

Amen...

Religion has used this scripture to beat up the sheep and try to force the "fruit of the Spirit" into being and if you don't have what they deem to be fruit - you are going to be thrown into hell by your loving Father.

We need to take scripture in context or that text will con you. Take Hebrews 12:14 as an excellent example. Taken isolated - we dream up all sorts of man0made traditions. But it context with "other" scriptures around it - it becomes evident what is being spoken about here.

Hebrews 12:12-15 (NASB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP]
Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble,

[SUP]13 [/SUP]
and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.

[SUP]14 [/SUP]
Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.

[SUP]15 [/SUP]
See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;

The context of this verse,
Hebrews 12:13 instructs us to not walk in a manner that will cause others to stumble. Therefore, I believe this verse isn’t talking about us seeing God but rather that if we don’t act in a holy manner, no one will see God in our lives. ( we are a living epistle )
That would certainly be a true statement that is not only consistent with
Hebrews 12:14 but leads perfectly into Hebrews 12:15.

Our actions don’t earn the grace of God. That wouldn’t be grace (
Romans 11:6). Therefore, we don’t fall from grace by not being holy enough to earn it. Galatians 5:4 speaks of falling from grace by putting faith in our works instead of having our faith firmly placed in Christ and what He did for us. So, the way people “fail of the grace of God” is through legalism.

Hebrews 12:15 -
Notice that bitterness in our lives doesn’t just hurt or poison us but many people. Again the context of this verse shows that we are supposed to walk in a manner that influences others in a positive way. If we get bitter, that bitterness will affect others.

Works-based salvationsists have used this verse to beat people with for years as we know we are sanctified forever in our inner man now and we do need to work out what is already in us in Christ in our outward behavior.

This has nothing to do with " becoming un-born " and not seeing the Lord ourselves and thus losing the free gift by grace through faith that He gave us in Christ's finished work.

Here is an excellent article addressing "Just what are the commandments of Jesus?"

( Hint: it has nothing to do with following the Sabbath day as in the Old Testament way which was a "shadow" of things to come - but it has everything to do with the true Sabbath rest which is found in Christ Himself )

I like to use this site from time to time as it gives a grace-based view of the finished work of Christ. it also has a place at the bottom where people can ask questions. I have found I have learned much from that area too.

John 14:15 – The Commands of Jesus

If God loves us unconditionally, how do we account for those scriptures that link His love with our obedience, like this one:

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (Jn 14:15)

A legalist reads this backwards: “You will keep my commandments if you love me.”

In other words, we must prove our love for God by doing what He commands.

Commandment-keeping is our duty, a condition we must meet if we are to enjoy His love.

But someone who is walking in grace reads it just as Jesus said it. He understands that keeping His commands is a by-product of love.

Paul explains this in Romans 8:3-4, but let me give you an everyday example inspired by something I read.

"Here in New Zealand we have a big problem with domestic violence. Consequently, there are many laws governing the responsibilities of fathers. Break any of these laws and you might go to jail or have your kids taken away.

It’s a serious business. But to be honest, I couldn’t tell you what these laws are. I’ve never read them. Yet I can confidently declare that I am keeping every one of these laws.

How do I know? Because I love my kids. I don’t keep the laws to show the authorities that I love my kids and I don’t relate to my children on the basis of these laws. I relate to them on the basis of love and keeping the laws of the land flows naturally from that love relationship.

I know the laws serve a good purpose, but they weren’t written for me. They were written for fathers who don’t love their kids."

Similarly, the laws found in the Bible were not written for those who love Jesus (1 Tim 1:9). Contrary to what the legalist may tell you, keeping the laws to earn what He freely offers is a surefire sign that you don’t know the love of God.

A legalist reads the words of Jesus above and sees a threat. Do the commandments or else! But love makes no threats. Jesus is returning for a bride and it won’t be a shotgun wedding.

What are the commands of Jesus?

The next time someone tells you that you must keep the commands of Jesus to prove your love, ask them, “what are the commands of Jesus?”

They will probably respond with the greatest commandment which is, “love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul” (Mt 22:38). This is fine, I guess.

But if you insert that command into the phrase above it becomes, “If you love me, you will love me with all your heart, mind and soul,” which is kind of redundant.

If you read John 14:15 in context, you will see that on this occasion Jesus is referring to two specific commands. Here’s the first:

“A new command I give you: Love one another….” (Jn 13:34)

And here’s the second:

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me… Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves” (Jn 14:1,11)

How can we be certain that these are His commandments? Because John – who was there when Jesus spoke these words – says so in one of his letters:

“And this is His command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us.” (1 Jn 3:23)

What does it mean to keep His commands?

Lest we dilute His commandments to accommodate our experience, Jesus outlines His expectations of obedience for both. Here’s what He expects from the first:

“As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (Jn 13:34)

How did Jesus love us? By laying down His life for us (Jn 15:3). That’s a high standard of love! Indeed, there is no greater love. And what are His expectations regarding the second commandment:

“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these…” (Jn 14:12)

Believe in Jesus and you will do the works of Jesus. Put it altogether and Jesus is saying this:

“If you love me, you will love one another as I have loved you and your faith in me will lead to miracles like I have been doing and greater miracles still.”

If you’ve been in any church for at least five years, you will know that Jesus’ first commandment is pretty much humanly impossible to keep, while the second commandment is definitely impossible.

So the next time someone tries to lay a heavy burden on you by telling you that you must keep Jesus’ commandments to earn God’s love, just ask them how many people they’ve raised from the dead!

When they look puzzled, tell them that Jesus commanded us to believe in Him and He said that those who did would do the same works He did and greater works besides!

Now that we begin to understand what Jesus wasn’t saying He wasn’t saying that we need to keep His commandments to prove our love – we’re ready to dig deeper into what He was saying.

That’s the subject of the next post. You won’t want to miss it. When you see what Jesus was promising His disciples and you, it’s going to blow you away!

Maybe you’ve been intimidated by John 14:15 and the other new covenant laws. If so, prepare to be set free. When you get a hold of the words of Jesus you’re going to be so pumped that you’ll want to frame them and hang them on your wall. Stay tuned!

I agree.

It is the same principle as when some try to say that King Saul in the Old Testament was saved as in a believer in Christ is saved. They try to make Saul look like the Holy Spirit left him and so He will leave you too.

It's religious nonsense based on fear and inaccurate view of the Father and not understanding the whole "why" of the gospel in the first place.
It's an example to the church as the NT say it is.

1 Samuel 16:14
New International Version
Now the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD tormented him.

New Living Translation
Now the Spirit of the LORD had left Saul, and the LORD sent a tormenting spirit that filled him with depression and fear.

English Standard Version
Now the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a harmful spirit from the LORD tormented him.

New American Standard Bible
Now the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD terrorized him.

King James Bible
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

Holman Christian Standard Bible
Now the Spirit of the LORD had left Saul, and an evil spirit sent from the LORD began to torment him,

International Standard Version
The Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

The word "justified" means to be declared righteous. Righteousness only comes by a "gift". This giving of the gift of righteousness which is Christ's alone is what brings salvation as in going to be with the Lord when we leave this body of flesh.

The finished work of Christ is that all sin has been taken away by Him and that all those that believe when they hear the message of Christ - are sealed with the Holy Spirit and they become new creations in Him and they are declared righteous because of Christ's work alone - not by what we do or don't do.

The finished work of Christ means that He alone has obtained eternal redemption for us. Heb. 9:12 - secured by His blood.

The righteous shall live by faith.

The proper understanding of His righteousness will also in this live bring the grace needed to walk out what already is in side us in the new creation in Christ.

Not being able to discern the "word of righteousness" will leave spiritual babies in our understanding.

Looks like it is time for "scripture" again in the area of righteousness. Why do people fight so much against the work of Christ and instead live by their own humanistic religious thoughts? Why don't we believe in Christ? Why are we continually denying Him and what He has done?

I can give what the scriptures say about righteousness and believers that are "in Christ" now. Everyone can believe what they want too
.

The understanding of the new creation in Christ and the new identity of the believer is paramount to living the true Christian life.

Here it says our spirit ( the inner person that is a new creation in Christ ) is alive because of righteousness that it is it.

Romans 8:10 (NASB)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
Here righteousness is a gift - you don't earn it.

Romans 5:17 (KJV)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

We have grace reigning in our lives because of righteousness in us.

Romans 5:21 (KJV)
[SUP]21[/SUP] That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Here righteousness comes by faith.

Romans 9:30 (KJV)
[SUP]30 [/SUP] What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

Here when we believe - we are righteousness.

Romans 10:10 (KJV)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

We are in the kingdom of God.

Romans 14:17 (KJV)
[SUP]17[/SUP] For the kingdom of God ( Jesus said that the kingdom of God is within you..He might know a thing or two ) is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Here it says that God made us righteousness in Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV)
[SUP]30 [/SUP] But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

This says we have become the righteousness of Christ ( this is called a dependent clause in the greek - it is determined as fulfilled because Christ became sin )

2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Believers are called righteousness.

2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Here it is saying that "righteousness comes by Christ".

Galatians 2:21 (NASB)
[SUP]21 [/SUP] "I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."

Here we have the breastplate of righteousness - which is the armor of God that we are to be strong in.

Ephesians 6:14 (KJV)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, andhaving on the breastplate of righteousness;

This talks about the new man in Christ - the new creation which has been created in righteousness and holiness.

Ephesians 4:24 (NASB)
[SUP]24 [/SUP] and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Ok..that's enough..there are tons more....

OK...a few more from the Old Testament which spoke of things to come.

We that are in Christ have the Lord's righteousness now in our inner man that is in Christ.

Isaiah 45:24-25 (NASB)
[SUP]24 [/SUP] "They will say of Me, 'Only in the LORD are righteousness and strength.' Men will come to Him, And all who were angry at Him will be put to shame.

[SUP]25 [/SUP] "In the LORD all the offspring of Israel Will be justified and will glory."

Here is one more from the OT - Isaiah 54: 17 of the Lord telling what the believer would have because of what Christ did in Isaiah 53 when He died on the cross to take away our sin and make us righteous in Him.

Isaiah 54:17

[SUP]17 [/SUP] "No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me," declares the LORD.

Folks we have a great salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ!

Ephesians 3:8 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ,

Hmmm...."strive to enter through the narrow door".

How do we strive to enter in without that being a works gospel (which it surely isn't)? Kind of reminds me of Peter's "make every effort":
"5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
10Therefore, my brothers and sisters,[SUP]a[/SUP] make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 1:5-11 NIV)

So many here have been insisting that this is a works gospel.
I doesn't bother me so much as to what they believe, but that they have to purposely ignore tons of scripture or explain it all away to do it.

This isn't a every-now-&-then occurance, but a constant one.

This attitude against the Bible can't be explained away.

This is rebellion, no matter how you slice it.

Sadly, people who think they must earn it can not see their sin, because they hide it, and judge others so they can Not see it.
..... while the other side doesn't hide the fact that they say all their sin doesn't matter anymore & continues on with it.

If we preach the gospel of the grace of God in Christ and no one says "What? Are you saying we can sin all we want now?"

- If no one says that when we preach the gospel - then we are not preaching the same gospel that Paul preached.

People should be accusing you of "loving sinning" and wanting to "live in sin" if the gospel is being preached correctly and accurately. The very same things happened to Paul and it was all from the religiously thinking people.

The true gospel of Christ Himself is a rock of offense and a stumbling block to us that have a D.I.Y self-righteousness belief system which is really just like every other religion in the world.

Personally I am vehemently against all forms of sinning as they all bring destruction of some sort to us while on this earth - especially the one of unbelief in Christ's finished work on the cross.

I don't see any difference in sinning by living a homosexual lifestyle to having malice, bitterness, having outbursts of anger, being deceitful, being jealous and envious and the slandering of others in the body of Christ.

All of these, as well as all the works of the flesh bring about death to us in this life. They are contrary to the life of Christ in us now in our new creation - the new man of the heart
.

Here is my view on sin and it's affects on us and on how the Holy Spirit transforms us as we behold the glory ( goodness ) of our Lord as in a mirror. 2 Cor. 3:17-18

Sin changes our perspective on things and causes us to not look at our Father in the right light of who He truly is. ( The same as Adam and Eve did when they hid from Him even though He was still coming to visit with them and He still took care of them )

Sin also affects our ability to have harmonious relationships with others and it also distorts our view of others as well as ourselves. Sin is deceitful.

We chose to live holy lives because we are just being who we truly are in Christ - not to maintain right standing with God. This living good holy lives creates right relationships with people, it will not give our enemy an influence in our lives and it is a good witness to the world.

God gives us both the "will" and the capability "to do" of His good pleasure. Phil. 2:13

It reveals the true heart of our loving Father and Lord to show others in this hurt and dying world their love and grace towards them.

Your true identity is not defined by your struggles, mistakes, or sinful actions. These are all confined to the flesh and are the works of the flesh as Paul said. Who you are is defined by your new birth in Christ. You are who you are by His grace and life in you!

Behavioral issues are usually the result of trying to live under the law in some form - such as the false doctrine of "sinless perfection in the flesh" or your loving father will throw you in hell if you don't "shape-up". It's a bunch of religious nonsense.

This "lose your salvation" false doctrine which discourages believers and brings fear and hopelessness to them as they struggle in the flesh with some things. It also promotes a dis-trust for our Father and Lord.

This causes them to have their faith ship-wrecked because they feel condemned and don't know how to walk by the spirit yet nor are they taught the gospel of the grace of God in Christ properly in order to grow up in Him.

Once you understand you are completely accepted and sin free forever in Jesus in your inner man created in righteousness and holiness - and that this is your permanent state for all eternity in Christ - the behavioral issues will fall off of our lives like dead leaves.

The "sap" of His life in and through us transforms us outwardly by the Holy Spirit as we behold the glory ( goodness ) of the Lord Jesus as in a mirror. We see all the goodness that He has already done for us and we also see ourselves in Him as one spirit with the Lord. 2 Cor. 3:17-18

I maintain that the preaching and teaching of the love and grace of God in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ brings true righteousness which is His alone and there will be deeds of His life manifested in us if we are fed Christ Himself and His righteousness to us.

He has cleansed our hearts by faith and now we are to walk from this new heart in Christ.

As we have received Him - so we walk in Him. Col. 2:6. It is all by grace through faith in what Christ has already done.

Why didn't you bold this part of verse 25 above? Now that lines up perfectly with Matthew 7:22-23. Jesus NEVER knew them.
Strive -
1. to exert oneself vigorously; try hard:
He strove to make himself understood.
2. to make strenuous efforts toward any goal:to strive for success.
3. to contend in opposition, battle, or any conflict; compete.

The older son represents the Pharisees. They never left the father's house in an open rebellion and riotous living in a squandering of the inheritance.

The Prodigal Son represents the tax collectors and prostitutes. They are the ones who turned away and squandered the inheritance. And they are the ones who came back home at the preaching of John the Baptist.

I too am astonished at the poor use of biblical interpretation; and no verses to establish the truth.
Every Christian should have some knowledge of right and wrong interpretation; My most unfavorite misuse of interpretation of the bible is how some people will over spiritualize parts of scripture; they twist the scriptures beyond what the text teacher, and take you on a long wild tangent that has nothing to do with the context.

Amazing what people will do to twist the meaning of scripture; to support their own twisted thinking. "It was the cause of division and destruction in the Corinthian Church." Bible.org

General Principles of Biblical Interpretation:

Principle 1: Interpretation must be based on the author’s intention of meaning and not the reader.
Principle 2: Interpretations must be done in the context of the passage.
Principle 3: Interpret the Bible literally (or normally) allowing for normal use of figurative language.
Principle 4: Use the Bible to help interpret itself.
Principle 5: Interpretation must be distinguished from application.
Principle 6: Be sensitive to distinctions between Israel and the church and Old Covenant and New Covenant requirements.
Principle 7: Be sensitive to the type of literature you are in.

God bless!
Confused, but think I'm gleaning that you did not like that he saw the older son in a broader context and the entire parable in a broader context?

The narrow door is Christ Himself - believing in what he has done. It is not us "working for salvation" in order to get it or to maintain it. That is called a works-righteousness conscious but we are to be "faith-righteousness" conscious.

Resting in Christ's work on the cross and resurrection is our faith in action.

Resting in Christ's work on the cross and resurrection is our spiritual warfare.

Resting in Christ's work on the cross and resurrection is our obedience of faith.

From this resting - a Holy Spirit led life will come about and the grace of God in us working will manifest in deeds being done. Good works birthed by Christ Himself in us.

Paul said that he worked more than the other apostles yet not of himself - but the grace of God with Him.
