No, he really doesn't. It's not a "need." If it was a need, many of us (if not everyone) would have died young from not getting the need met.

It's not something anyone but God can get through to us about. And since the Jesus is the one who gathers, and he gathers all the ones the Father gives him, and loses not one, all this is in his hands. Not ours.

We can quote the entire Bible and debate every single verse. In the end, it is still God who does the work to get his people to be his people. Not our long discourse.

You're in your 70s. Honestly, has anyone ever convinced you that you're saved yet? Judging from what you've written, not yet. So, if you haven't been convinced, how are you planning on convincing someone else?

And, I'm the other way. I am absolutely convinced. Still can't convince anyone else. God convinced me, not man. And it took him decades to do that.

So, nope. Really don't see how anyone will be able to convince someone else.
Sadly, I spent well over ten years totally convinced of it. You see, I was faithfully following every rule my Elders told me I had to adhere to in order to be saved. Then, I began to look for God without their help.

It isn't that I believe I am saved. It is that I believe Jesus is saving me.

I am more confident of His faithfulness than anything.

What is salvation?

I guarantee the answer to that question will differ from person to person.

If we don't understand or know the answer to that question then we can't answer the OP question.

what do we need saved from

many will say the power of sin, and I agree, but that will not get us to heaven,

what do do we need sav d from, that will keep us from heaven? That should be the question.

Well the sin issue was resolved on the cross, so Jesus already took care of that, sin has no power over us anymore. Thank God for His mercy.
So yes, what is it we need to be saved from?

2 things happened at the cross...the shedding of blood for the forgiveness of SIN and we were delivered from the powers of darkness...

I thought the new Jerusalem was the final destination, not heaven!?

I think I mostly need to be saved from being the person I would choose to be if everything in creation were simply up to me.

I'm pretty sure "The New Jerusalem" is who you already are... not a destination, nor a barracks you will be housed in.

me also, but that still will not grant me access to eternity with the God,

what good old is it if I am saved from these things for a few decades, yet have to spend eternity separate from God?

If He is saving me from being THAT "me", day by day, then I am already in His Eternal presence.

Salvation is much, much more than being saved from hell. It is having the dead spirit we all inherited from adam made alive and hidden within Christ. It is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit from which power flows. It is a peace and joy that can never be taken away no matter the circumstances. It is a one on one personal relationship with God. It is having ALL grace poured out unto us to perform every good work. It is freedom from sin, death and the law. It is all that and much, much more. Do not be short changed by the lies of satan, read the Word and be lead by the Holy Spirit into an incredible life serving God!

Just fyi,

"All these people died in faith, without having received the things they were promised. However, they saw them and welcomed them from afar. And they acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14Those who say such things show that they are seeking a country of their own. 15If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16Instead, they were longing for a better country, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them. - Heb.11:8-18

"The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will never again leave it. Upon him I will write the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God (the new Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven from My God), and My new name. " - Rev.3:12

Do you really think something with so much written detail, that it is not referring to a literal heavenly city?

Snoozy,

I hope that one day soon you will be introduced to the rest of what Jesus does for us, beyond just selling us fire insurance.

You probably also think John was told to measure a structure so that he could write to us about the dimensions of a house.

A city whose foundations contain the names of the twelve apostles? (21.14)

A city whose gates contain the names of the patriarchs of Israel? (21.12)

A city which is the bride of Christ? (21.9)

It CAN only be the true church.

1 Peter 3:16 - Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

Exodus 20:16 - Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

____________

Galatians Chapter 5

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith

please understand that even if he is in error....

there is a way to go about sharing what God has given us
