Greetings beautiful people! I have a delema that pains my heart...
I am a Christian because I follow the words of Christ. The Old Testament has no place in my life.
The first testament describes a vengeful God, (a God that would kill children) a God that is definitely not the God described by Christ.
So it makes me sad when my friends or even my Pastor quotes from the Old Testament, as I feel they are straying from Christ's teaching. I understand through impeccable Logic, that a Christian should only read the words of Christ. Because when an individual, be them Christian or not, reads or speaks the old testament at that moment they are being Jewish. The Old Testament is the Jewish Bible when you speak it your being Jewish, full stop, logical and rational fact. I am definitely not anti-Semitic as I follow Christ's words and I love my neighbour.
Can anyone provide me with a logical and rational argument that refutes my argument. Furthermore, let's pick any contentious issue: let's say gays or gay marriage. Did Christ say anything against gays? If not, and you quote Leviticus, then in quoting and believing Leviticus, you are being a Jew not being Christian.
I have used this example because it is so volitile, not because I approve personal of homosexuality. But as a True Christian I should have no issue with homosexuality. Please only rational replies, I actually want to be proved wrong, but fact is fact.

I think you may be a Gnostic.

They considered the God of the Old Testament to be different from the Father of Jesus.

A few things:

A study on the immutability of God will help you.

An understanding of 2 Timothy 3:16 will also help you, it refers to the OT Scriptures.

A reading of the wrath of God in Revelation, in Jude, in John 3, Ephesians &c will reacquaint you with Christ's immutability being YHWH, that is that His wrath today is still real.

I would recommend for you to read The Existence and Attributes of God by Stephen Charnock.

If you see no issue with homosexuality, then you do in fact approve it. There is no way around this. You should have an issue with homosexuality as with all other sins; Romans 1; 1 Corinthians 6:9ff; Ephesians 5:5; Revelation 21:10-14; Galatians 5:19-21 &c.

Lastly, your beliefs are not grounded well in Scripture, but I have no idea how long you've been saved, nor from whence your unbiblical ideology stems.

Hopefully the above will help, but needless to say I've not witnessed one person who holds to the above ever embrace true biblical doctrine. Typically their system is what they wish to indoctrinate others with, and it generally goes into the embrace sodomy thing, while displaying some anger issues with "the antiquated God of the OT" coupled with "But I really like the Jesus God of the NT" fallacy.

Now, if you are truly looking for help to embrace all the Scriptures I will try to help you. If that is not your real agenda, then not sure how you can be helped.

No, You aren't a Christian. The word means "follower of Christ," yet you have chosen to make yourself a god easier to follow. So, you follow you.

In reality, all of the Bible is a book about God, breathed out by God, and telling everything we need to know about him -- OT and NT. You have chosen to cut it down to a fraction of its purpose and then claim "impeccable logic" lead you there.

A. That's not impeccable.
B. That's not logic.
and the most important...
C. That's not God.

Until the true Lord leads you, you are being led by your ego, not God.

(I predict you won't last long on this site.)

I don't see anything impeccable here, maybe impeachable.

2 Tim 3:15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

You can not have the Father without the Son or the Son without the Father they are one.

GOD is not judged by anyone.

If GOD does something then it is for the best.

Tough times call for tough measures.

GOD is Good always and forever.

I remember reading about the 2 ladies arguing over eating their children.. they made a deal to eat each own and one lady shared her child and they both ate.. then was mad that the other lady would not share her child for them to eat.. what manner of people eat their own children? The lady boiled her son and ate him with another....

So please consider that if a Just GOD floods the earth then the habitants deserved it and so on..

For the first 3 centuries of the Church's existence, the vast majority of all Christians were Jewish.
Even now being Jewish and Christian are NOT mutually exclusive. Being Jewish is a lineage, a culture, and a heritage; which may or may not include the practice of Judaism. Being a Christian involves believing and depending on the truth that the only way to please God is to rely on what Jesus (Yeshuah) did for us; and not on our own efforts.

John 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

John 5:23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

I believe the only authority in the Bible is direct quotes from Jesus. I believe in Jesus Christ's God, the one he describes.

Just saying that my logic is not impeccable is not an argument proving its not impeccable.
Obviously calling ones self Christian you should call yourself Judeo-christian. I am Christian because I follow Christ's words and only his words.

You are exercising your freewill but Scripture teaches us:

John 12

44Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. 45And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. 46I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. 47And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Well NOTtheologian, you just said you have no use for the OT because God kills children and He kills adults btw. And you only follow the NT teachings etc. How do you explain God via the Holy Spirit killing Ananias and Sapphira at Acts 5:4-10? How does this fit into your so-called "logical and rational" argument? Secondly, who is Jesus Christ? Is He or is He not God? PS: I also suggest you read a little story at 2 Kings 2:23-24 and what God did with some teenagers?

Yes the free will we all use to gives ourselves to God through Jesus and HIS way, not the Judeo-christian way.

He is God he is the son of God. Didn't he call himself the son of man on occasion... My logical argument was that when your reading old testament (Jewish Bible) you in that moment being a jew.

Do you believe in the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?
I believe Jesus as a carpenter as a man, as a man who was tested, as a man who cryed out "why has though forsaken me?" He spoke of the one true God. (his cultures God) But Do you think that the God that is Love, is a vengeful entity? Jesus didn't think that, do you?
